The Dixie Chicks have been in the news quite a bit lately. Most know about the situation Natalie Maines, the leader singer, caused with her statement to a London concert audience, “We’re ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas.”
Since her statement their cd’s have been destroyed, radio stations have refused to play their music, people have refused to attend their shows, and their sponsors have felt the weight of Americans refusing to purchase their products.
Wouldn’t this have been enough controversy for one trio to endure?
No.
Recently the Dixie Chicks stripped for a charity photo shoot. Not just any charity, but rather PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
Now they are wanting to take it back too. So let’s see. You can say what you want in London and apologize to America and it is supposed to make it OK. Then you strip naked for a photo shoot and lay in a bed of wild flowers and cover portions of your anatomy with musical instruments and then decide you don’t want to do that either and demand that PETA not release the ad campaign because your fans may not understand.
I have to wonder if these three really think things through before they act.
I’m in no way a supporter of PETA. I eat meat and wear leather and fur goods and will continue to do so. My reason for posting this is that it goes to show once again the Chicks want to take something they’ve done back and just expect everyone to cooperate and pretend it never happened.
A source told The Scoop, “The Chicks themselves were nice about the whole thing, but their management got worried that some of their fans were rifle-toting, Bambi-shooting types who would take offense at an anti-fur, pro-animal message.”
Do I find it offensive that the Chicks want to support PETA? No. Do I find the statement their management made on their behalf offensive? Yes.
The source went on to state, “They forbid release of the ad because they were worried about backlash or boycott. They even tried to pay PETA $10,000 to say it never happened.”
Well it happened and we know about it.
A PETA spokesperson adds, “We hope that one day they’ll let us release this ad.”
Why would PETA even want to release the ad at any point? The Chicks obviously are not standing behind their convictions to support the organization and wouldn’t that mean PETA would be releasing an ad campaign of wishy washy celebrity types who can’t stand true to their convictions? Oh, how silly of me for even saying that, it is celebrities we are talking about here who can’t even stand behind their nations President and troops let alone a cow.
WHY does this matter, with the “Boycott Hollywood” issue? Are the war and PETA somehow related? Or is this just another opportunity taken to bash someone you don’t agree with? Looks more like the latter to me.
Trash-talking is disrespectful, and shows your ignorance — isn’t that what you’re accusing the Chicks of doing? But I guess hypocrisy is okay, as long as you support the war.
As I stated in the post it is just to show lack of conviction. The Chicks have once again done something and now want to take it back, just like Natalie tried to take back what she said about our nations leader. It simply shows a pattern.
What in the hell do the Chixie Dix believe in anyways?? We are ashamed of president Bush…No we didn’t mean it. We’ll strip for PETA…Nah, better not release that. Take a stand on something and stick with it for cripesakes! I respect principles whether I agree or not. These gals have none… Good info, Reilly..Thanks…
It definately shows a pattern of behavior. I hope that boycotters in this Country stick to their pledges to boycott the Chicks. We will soon see if the Chicks and other Celebs, by way of the Chicks, get a wake up call or not.
GAC and Countrystars.com recently submitted the following statement in their email newsletter;
“The DIXIE CHICKS controversy is cooling down after their apology and information coming to light that the incident was artificially heightened by polling and call-in campaigns waged by two ultra-conservative political action groups . . . ”
http://www.countrystars.com
I think GAC needs a wake up call too.
thanks awaytome – I also agree with your point about principles.
It would really be something if they did get that wake up call and understand what it means. GAC really is under playing this situation. I wonder if the DC’s management got ahold of them too.
I don’t see what they’re trying to salvage by trying to take back the PETA-ad. Now that Natalie’s shot off her big mouth, the boycotts have already started, and the whole world knows they’re as liberal as it gets where mentality is concerned. The damage has already been done as far as I’m concerned.
The bed has been made, and now is the time to sleep in it…in whatever state of dress.
“WHY does this matter, with the ‘Boycott Hollywood’ issue? Are the war and PETA somehow related?”
Uhhh… maybe you should be asking PETA why so many of their people keep showing up at the “peace” protests. While you’re at it, ask them what the hell the Holocaust has to do with eating a hamburger!
I’m sure the folks at PETA have given plenty of advice on civil disobedience to the peace protestors, among other things. The “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show”-incident, anyone?
Getting back to the Chicks, I have a solution to this dilemma they seem to be facing with “rifle-toting, Bambi-shooting types.” Why don’t they literally change their tune, work on their style a bit and see about getting out of the country scene and into the pop-scene? Their liberal tendancies would make them more of a hit there, and I’m sure Sheryl would be *more* than happy to lend Emily and Marty a few of her t-shirts.
When the Twits did their performance with Sheryl Crowe, weren’t they ALL wearing leather? Or was I dreaming that ?
I AM from Texas, we still remember the Alamo for God’s sake! I can’t believe that they would think that the people of Texas would just take this!
Give any imbecile a platform…….
Wow… I can’t believe that this website comes from a group of people that are claiming to be on the side of justice and American way. You want to persecute someone because they chose to voice their opinion. You want to boycott them and destroy their works and encourage others to destroy them also. Now isn’t that the “American Way” of things. A country where we all believe one way or we are condemned. I thought that only happened in countries where there were no freedoms. Countries like Iraq? Are you saying our country is NO BETTER THAN IRAQ????? Wow.. what antique ideas you have. Are you convinced that Bush is 100% right? Are you convinced that what the Dixie Chicks said was wrong? Have you listened to some of the stupid things that Bush has said in his presidency? I can give you a website to show you some of the dumb quotes. They are not just about the war. I am from Texas and I too am ashamed that he is from Texas. We have higher standards than that. We have high educational standards and he can’t even speak English accurately. This web site just PISSES ME OFF!! I say way to go Dixie Chicks and every one else that exemplifies the constitutional rights of Americans to Say what they believe without the chance of religious, racial or sexual persecution. Way to go Dixie Chicks to call down our President on things that they believe are wrong and causing people to think about things in a different matter. If they didn’t, would we be moving into a government where people blindly follow their leader and allow them to do things like Saddam has.
We are not persecuting anyone it is called boycotting there is a differance, this is our choice to do so. And if it “pisses” you off, well here is a soluthion find a web site you agree with. Don’t read what is said here then. You are in charge of your own life. It wouldn’t bother me any.
I drank Lipton Tea for years and will not anymore since they are the ones promoting The Dickie Chicks concert tour. If people really want to take a stand they also need to consider who is promoting these idiots and take action.

Let people have their views and worry about your family and the people closer to you in these times. they matter more.
if you were in the Dixie chicks position you don’t know how you would literally act. its a whole different ball game in the lime light and having agents ect.
People need to live their own lives and not ruin celebs just cause of views. Its not being a loving person.
What came out of that Dickie Chick’s mouth was not loving but disgraceful. I am worried about my loved ones and friends. Especially those in the Armed Forces that are over in Iraq trying to free their people and save ours.
They don’t need the negative feedback that Follywood so willing indulges in and attempts to use to manipulate others. Pueblo, why don’t you tell them to be more loving people. They are using their fame to distroy a nation that has been hurt and subjected to terriorism as well as the lose of 3000 people on 9/11.
If you think that’s loving then I suggest you look at the whole picture instead of what comes out of Follywood. They are the ones fueling the hate and the non loving attitude not this web site.
If you believe that everyone is connected to everyone in this world by 6 degrees (according to six degrees of kevin bacon) and we are going to start boycotting everything or anyone that is associated to anyone on “the list” then soon we will be boycottying everyone. Now that makes sense.. let’s cut through all the red tape and just boycott Bush now.
If you dont love the USA then leave it. The list is very real and unfortunately the people on it have super inflated egos and their own interest in mind. If they truely cared about this country they would support the people fighting for it and the cause behind it.
Susan your minimizing this boycott is quit frankly sickening. It’s about time people not celebrities had a voice. The real heros and heroins are not the people on the list. It’s those that are in our Armed Forces and those who refuse to allow the “listees” to cloud their judgment and value system.
If the Dixie Chicks want to say they don’t like President Bush and his decision to go to war that’s fine they have that right.
But here in America it is not the minority that chooses what happens, it is the Majority. And it is not a democracy in America, but a republic (majority vote)!! And as of now the Majority of Americans want to get rid of Saddaam Husseein and his terrostic regime.
Also our US soldiers are fighting in Iraq right now so that the Chicks can have that right to dissent.
Don’t forget where our freedoms come from. Freedom comes at the cost of a price.
Peace,
Tim
I just LOVE that we are supposed to respect the freedoms of spoiled celebrities, but the liberals don’t recognize my freedom to boycott. For Pete’s sake people…you really are grasping at straw’s now. SO HILARIOUS!!!!
I suppose that you liberals would tell me that I better way to ‘dissent’ with the celebrities is to stand out in the street and protest. Infringing on other’s by blocking streets…tying up resources….and destroying public property. Yeah…that’s more of a ‘peace’-ful solution than boycotting. You liberals! You are SOOOOOOO funny.
Let the dixie chumps go to alaska in the winter time and pull that stupid stripping stunt and and SHAZAM bright blue dixie chumps and well right now here in northern calfornia siskiyou county where i live its getting into the 20s here at night i would like to see some of those dim-bulbs from PETA go cavorting about in their birthday clothes in the dead of night:razz:
