Yes, it is for those of us that are disabled. Some of us can no longer enjoy sitting down with a good book.
Osama Bin Laden started this war on terrorism when he killed 3000 people. Saddam is a hitler type person. He’s been doing genocide for years. Go to SI.com and read how he raised his sons. Pretty scary. Everyday, our troops are out there searching and destroying hugh caches of weapons. They are also looking for chem and bio weapons, which, last night they discovered a big supply of cyanide. The high grade pesticides that they are finding, and have been all along, are the basic ingredients for chem/bio weapons. An iraqi scientist has told our troops that Saddam destroyed and buried the weapons right before the war started. Do you remember when our troops first got to the Euphrates River? They tested the water before they drank or swam in it. They found cyanide and mustard gas in the water. Our troops have been over there a month and discovered over 90 sites. They are being escorted by an iraqi that was under Saddam’s thumb- he said there were over 120 sites. They figured he knew actual sites because he showed them a couple that they had discovered beforehand. Yes, we have trained some of these people and the Arabs are mad at us. Can’t really blame them- we told them to uprise in the first Gulf war and Saddam and his crew used Mustard Gas on the town of Basra- look at the pictures (also the interview with the woman who got hit by Mustard Gas in the face). That was the first thing. The next was when Clinton indiscrimanetely (sorry spelling) bombed several countries while he was under investigation for things. I believe this war is about getting rid of a horrible dictator and getting rid of terrorism. I believe the wealth will be disbursed around Iraq. Saddam was hording all of the food, that is what we first started passing out. Food, weapons (illegal from France and Russia). I do pray that this war will help the world’s situation so my children can grow up in a safer world.
This is the stupidest site I have ever seen. Hating someone for their views is just as bad as you make the Dixie Chicks or anyone in Hollywood sound! I saw, instead of Boycott Hollywood… boycott this site!

Geno- go ahead and boycott this site. It started out to be a place where people could vent their opinions. Who said anything about “hating” others. It’s unfortunate that you feel that. Is this your first time to the site? Look through all the topics and the comments- alot of the people are very supportive of our troops. Alot of us have had it with hollywood’s comments and that is what we are trying to discuss. Sometimes people do get upset because of the things that are said back to them. Nobody can control free speech. It is a freedom that we ALL enjoy. I’d rather see constructive instead of destructive comments and debates but insults and name calling have been shot at alot of the individuals on this site.

I agree about the European posting thing as well as the ‘envy’ piece. There is much we can learn.
My friend Christophe in Dijon, France is the archetypical Frenchman. He is PASSIONATELY French in all things. I once said to him (foolishly ) “You French think you created Western Civilization”. He looked incredulously back at me and said, “Yes, and?”
I laughed out loud at his seeming arrogance. However, when you process the sentiment it has some truth in it. When on French soil… I can ALMOST see what he means. It is a truly amazing country.
The ‘envy’ thing is astute. Yes. That’s there too. Remember, these folks (during the 80s) lived on a steady diet of “Dallas” and J.R. Ewing. To THEM, that WAS America!! Many actually believed ALL Americans lived similarly. In as sense… the common misconception IS that the “streets (in America) are paved with gold”.
However, I feel quite sure that more than envy, it was RESPECT that inspired the French Government to design, commission, build, and ship The Statue of Liberty to us at our national Centennial in 1876. No ‘sour grapes’ there certainly.
And why wouldn’t they envy us?? We are (or have been in the past) MOST enviable! I would like us to be revered that way again one day.
I relate this story to you only to try and give some perspective to the “Pave.France” crowd and the unthinking irreverance of similar sentiments.
Later in my relationship with this Frenchman, I learned he and his wife were moving to the States. While here they lived on both the East and West coasts and in the state of Hawaii. Their total American experience was roughly 3 years.
They returned to France early in 2001.
After September 11, 2001 his outpouring of unconditional support and respect was unlike any that came from any other source. Similarly my friend in Italy wrote a lengthy e-mail to me expressing the heartfelt sorrow and support he and HIS countrymen felt for our national loss. The Venetians had a city-wide day of mourning. The Parisians held a vigil outside Notre Dame de Paris. Doesn’t quite seem hate-inspired to me.
However, I digress.
My point is that it is NOT about “the French” or “the Germans” or “the Americans”. When faced with loss and tragedy we become the family of man. I noticed it at that time, I took it in, and it is to those times I refer when I feel that the gap is growing ever-deeper between us.
There is no simple answer to a long-range situation like that in the Middle East. I trust reason will regain a foothold and level heads will prevail. (At least on my good days I do….)
