Pro-War Celebrities Bash Hollywood Anti-War Activists
Hollywood celebrities attending the 89th annual White House Correspondents Association Dinner in Washington on Saturday night made it a point to condemn celebrity anti-war activists. Actor Kelsey Grammer, who plays the lead role in NBC’s “Frasier” sitcom, said he refused to watch this year’s Academy Awards because of the anti-war “crap” that fellow celebrities spewed.
“Hollywood celebrities generate millions of fans.” ~ Rev. Al Sharpton
Actually, it’s millions of fans who generate Hollywood celebrities.
As if Kelsey Grammar’s comments weren’t enough of a thrill, and as if watching his recovery from such a traumatic plight this past year wasn’t wild enough, I was absolutely delighted to see that one of my 90210-faves, Jason Priestly, also has his head screwed on straight regarding anti-war celebs! Check this out:
Jason Priestley of “Beverly Hills 90210″ television fame, agreed with Grammer and lamented the excessive coverage of anti-war celebrities by what he termed the “liberal media.”
“I think more people should keep their opinions to themselves,” Priestley said. He was particularly incensed by Moore’s acceptance speech.
“It was shocking. I did not believe that was the forum to voice your opinions. Michael Moore is allowed to have opinions and his opinions are valid like everyone else’s opinion, but I just didn’t think the Academy Awards were the place to voice them in that manner,” he explained.
I was also delighted to see Robert Duvall voice his disapproval of the anti-war celebs. It’s about time some performers on the other side of the coin started speaking out!!!
I think Kelsey & Duvall, hit on a nerve here. Some Americans have just had enough of them “constantly” speaking out in the wrong places. Richard Gere, everytime you gave that man a microphone he would speak on the plight of the Tibetan Monks. Madonna has been shoving down our throats since the 80′s about her sexuality and how much she apparently isn’t ashamed of her body. Susan Saranoon confuses herself as a politician rather than just being an actress. Barbara Streisand seems to only do concerts when she wants to raise money for some DEM trying to get elected. If they want to bring awareness to certain issues in our world, than drop the celebrity “credentials”. Come out in the world and wear the robes of a voting American. When you return to the studio or MGM movie lot, than be that “person”, they need to stop confusing the two professions w/the other.
Yeah.. but.. yeah.. but.. Sandy??
I know La Streisand is kind of a crackpot.. but can I please still listen to her??? Come on remember who I am! (and after all she IS a ‘diva’)
(wink, wink… nudge nudge…)
By all means, I still have my Barry Gibb-Barbara Streisand 45..
You have nothing to be guilty of…..
am I corny or what?

Bush is the leader of the free world.
The US-american are the “supermen” the “superhuman”, the “superior race”.
And threat for this superhuman race comes from every country, people or organisation which is suitable for it at the time.
They *think* that a country, which was destroyed years ago, has the capability to destroy their country and its people.
And why do they think that way? Because the machine of propaganda tells them, as that machine told the world that the regime knows who was responsible for the 9/11-”attack”.
And of course, an investigation is not necessary, because – you remember – “they already know”!!!
Why was the investigation of one of the biggest crime of the last years stopped?
“Because they already know”? Why do they?
And now the killing goes on, the furious american dog of war is unleashed and wants to “pacify” (=conquer) the rest of the world, which – of course – is inhabited by backward people. If these people are killed in our “holy war” – hmmmm – let’s call them “collateral damage”!
Well, in fact it doesn’t matter which name they get, because either they are inferiour to our god-blessed-superiour-superhuman-country or they are nameless.
And of course, the US-American need protection for theirselves!
Let’s take that “Patriotic Act”-thing out of the drawer! (Everything is prepared, as it should be ) The pathetic name and the current situation will prevent people from declining it, because everyone who isn’t for us is for the terrorists, remember?
YOU ARE EITHER WITH US OR WITH THE TERRORISTS.
GOOD AND EVIL!!!! THE WILL OF GOD!!! RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE!!!
Is the USA a fundermentalistic state? What’s the difference between Iran and the US? That the backward Iran-people don’t drink coca cola? That there is no Mc Donald in Teheran?
But of course, the not-even-elected-government knows. Not even elected? That makes ‘em a regime
And that Bush-Junta will go on that way as long as you believe ‘em.
Congratulations! You are the 21th century’s nazis!
Sandy & Choses- Your comments lightened up my day. And dog gone it, Pretzel had to ruin it by calling, and I quote, “Congratulations! You are the 21th century’s nazis!” Name calling is not needed. This site is for people to express their opinions. We can all do that in a positive way. I do not appreciate the classification of all Americans as “nazis”. Nazi Germany’s citizens did not have the right to express their opinions (freedom of speech). I have found that this forum gives all people the right to be heard. Citizens have the right to express their opinions here. We don’t need name calling and infantile behavior on this. If you disagree with that person, state that you do and express your feelings. Choses and I went around and around- we got it figured out and have been having (when I have time for it) decent constructive debates. Like it has been said before- we can all learn something from someone here. It helps to learn where the other individual stands. I hope everyone has a good day!
Congratulations! You are the 21th century’s nazis!

Much as that opinion of yours offends me, you are indeed entitled to it.
Speaking of Nazis, I must say how nauseated I am at the more outspoken celebs’ consummate efforts of pleading the first…for themselves. In other words, it isn’t so much that they want the right to speak — they’ve had it all along, and never lost it. What they are really saying in effect, with their blacklisting screams, are “I have the right to say whatever I want because I’m somebody, and you have the right to remain silent because you are nobody.”
And I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t quite seem right to me.
If this country and the media really did give a darn about the freedom of speech, don’t you think they would allow Toby Keith’s “Angry American” on the air, complete with the “boot in your a**”-line? What will we have this year, Darryl Worley’s “They took all the footage off my TV”-line conveniently removed from “Have You Forgotten?” under the guise of “The program ran too long” like they did with Toby? Is that double-standard ever going to be cleared up? Or are they simply going to say “You boys are too angry and that’s un-American,” borrowing a bit from Bruce Springsteen’s little note?
And how, may I ask, is that not censorship? Why am I expected to cry along with the Dixie Chicks and feel ashamed of my opinions of them while no one says a peep of Toby Keith’s sudden absense from the 10-10-220 commercials? Why is it not okay for me to say that I think Tim and Susan are full of you-know-what, yet it is okay for them to judge the likes of Dr. Laura and Liz Hurley?
You want to talk about “Nazi behavior”…well, there you go. As President Bush himself stated, freedom is indeed a two-way street.

Common, I apologize for my use of the term “Nazi” in my remarks above. I was responding a bit to that post, referring to something that’s been rankling me a bit lately.
Dear “commonfolk”…
We’d better be careful here or people will think we’re in love
All joking aside…. I could NOT agree more with your last posting. Here’s to PROPORTION people!

I’m sorry but to me religion and politics don’t mix..
Don’t mean to offend you 2nd coming, but a Barry Manilow song has just as much relevance to me as what you just posted.
Great verse, but I fail to see what that has to do with the issue at hand, which is pro-war celebs expressing how they feel about the expressions of anti-war celebs.

I just realized Toby has been absent from the 10-10-220 commercials, I see ALF still has a contract..I’m still hearing about the Dixie Chicks sold out shows, but I do realize they sold their tickets before the spoke out against Bush…
Do you think ticket holders are still going to attend?
Praise God! On April 7 to 9, 2003 my 5 1/2 yrs. old daughter and her classmates secretly prayed during their recess time. They were praying for the US troops to win and praying for the Iraqi people – that the Lord will provide foods and medicine. April 9, 2003 Fall of Baghdad. God listens to the prayers of the clean and innocent children.
Anti-war celebs whose chanting about “peace” should make peace with their Creator. Have you make peace with your Creator? Make peace now before it’s too late. John 3:16

I agree with Sandy – Politics and Religion just don’t mix. It’s that whole funky separation of churce and state thing.
Thanks.

Very good question, Sandy. As a matter of fact, at this point I think it’s safe to say it’s the million dollar question!
Here in St. Louis, we have two major country stations. After a “Chickless Weekend,” one of the stations went back to playing the Chicks, though not quite as often as before, and the other didn’t. Today I heard the latter playing “Landslide,” so I have no idea whether or not that’s a result of the Primetime Live interview. Maybe a listener requested it, I don’t know…
Anyway, I think one of the biggest tests will be the Country Music Awards, which I believe are coming up in May. It should be interesting to see 1) if they win anything, 2) if they show up, and, in the event that they do, 3) what kind of reception they get, to say nothing of 4) whether or not there are any patriotic performances by the likes of Toby Keith and/or Darryl Worley.
I still remember Toby confessing to Access Hollywood how angry he became while trying to close the CMT Awards with “The Angry American.” He made a point of saying that he was so enraged that he nearly broke his guitar thanks to what he referred to as “people thumbing their noses.” I was rather shocked to hear about that, and it should be interesting to see whether or not that occurs this time around.
I tried to forgive those girls, but the more I looked into things, I just can’t. When I read what they said about Toby Keith, it just ticked me off.( I don’t even like country music, but this was unfair)
I remember them saying how upset they were watching children stomp on their “art”, well Tobys’ songs are “art” to him and this song, “The Angry American” has more meaning to him, he was grieving the loss of his father at the time. The song is very personal to this man and nobody has offered him an apology and Natalie sho’ nuff needs to give him one. Part of me would like them to rush the stage and find empty stadiums and coliseums wherever they go. They haven’t made ammends to their fellow artists and until they do..how can we take them seriously? Some people will say, “oh give me a break, they’re singers…blah..blah..blah” Well, in my day to day life I don’t talk or associate w/people I don’t respect and I don’t respect the Chicks. Me & Natalie are never gonna bond and be lifelong friends…she’s down right two faced and a fair weathered friend kind of gal. I’d eat the money if I had of bought tickets and not go see them. There has got to be something better to do in the Carolinas in the spring time than go see these gals..
So, where can this “Angry American” be found? Is it a song, an essay, or something else entirely?
I am a Christian (although probably unlike any most of you have ever met) and acknowledge that the Bible verses have no place here. I never understood people who tried to substantiate a side of an issue with Biblical quotes because faith by it’s very nature is belief in something you can’t prove IMO.
That said, as much I finally like seeing some celebs supporting the war, I tend to ignore celebs opinions altogether. Many times celebrities support an issue through paid endorsement or simply to boost their status with the populus. The sincere ones are hard to weed out, so I don’t even try (after all, they are paid actors in most cases).
I daresay that the Chicks flix was nothing more that a pre-planned jaunt to move them firmly into the center of the spotlight, and if so mission accomplished.
There is no such thing as bad publicity in Hollywood, you have to realize. That said, I like what this site has done, giving a potent unified voice for Joe American.

2NDCOMING,
Please, stay on topic or stay off the board.
Christians like you give Christians like me a bad name.
Chosesinconnues, you’ve got mail.
I hit the SEND button too early.
Let me also add that, speaking for myself, I find it distasteful when celebrities use their status as a high profile public figure to advance their agenda in an inappropriate forum. That’s one of the things that brought me to this site. That hostility is also extended to spammers, trolls, and other people who use the anonymous nature of forums like this to just disparage others with no accountability for their actions.
Thanks, I HAD to get that off my chest.
Ted
“Angry American” is a song and more to that scandal is Peter Jennings heard it and vetoed it from his broadcast and Toby was upset and brought up how Peter isn’t even an American citizen and he also said that he believed Dan Rather would have let him sing it..Jennings did do an expo on the Dixie Chicks however and that seemed to add fuel to an already growing fire. just some fyi
So pretzell said something ineresting and you all stopped on the “nazi” word, being ofended … what he tried to say is that most german were indead trustfull to the “magnificent” talks of the Furer , and you are totally wrong saying that people could not express their opinion, in the begining of it , everybody were trustfull in the guy… but he was a lier wasn’t he ? … that’s the part you missed , I would say Buch is not as mad as hitler was in the methods used ,and also on demagogy but he is (once all lies whithdrawn) as potentially dangerous for human Future , and precisely for African countries … this is an expert view (40 years of work in publichealth relationship between US , Europe, india & African governments)
The burning question now is . . . . are pol and pretzell one in the same? (Examine the grammar . . . . )
Why is it ok for Kelsey Grammar, Jason Priestly, Robert Duvall, Toby Keith… to say what they’re thinking, but not ok for Natalie Maines, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Richard Gere…? Either celebs should or shouldn’t have opinions. Which is it? A lot of hypocracy happening here (it seems to me).
“Examine the grammar . . . .”
… The grammar !?… Lawyer !
I previously wrote:

Why hasn’t anyone answered my question? Obviously someone disagrees with me… I just read a ‘true blue’ piece about Dennis Miller.
So what IS the difference??? Why can some celebs voice their political views and that’s ok with you, but others can’t without being accused of ‘abusing’ their fame? You can’t have it both ways. Either ALL celebs can and should speak out, or NONE. Which is it? The mock Dixie Chicks picture you posted says ‘Just Stick to Entertaining.’ A bit hypocritical don’t you think? If that’s what the Dixie Chicks, Garafolo and others should do, then shouldn’t you be saying that about all your ‘true blue’ celebs as well??
Oy, I thought we were talking about Conservative Celebrities. I get national socialists, thumpers of the Bible and blather from the Democratic Underground. Gee whiz. Remember folks, the left believes in “the ends justify the means” as RULE number one. They never will accept your right to state your opinion. Only those who parrot the party line are intelligent enough and sensitive enough to be heard by the great unwashed. As for those Neanderthals in “flyover country”, they don’t even deserve that.
Still looking for my duct tape.
If I”m not mistaken, Robert Duvall said that “celebrities (meaning all) should shut their mouths. I don’t see him taking out TV spots or newspaper ads to express his pro-war stance, unlike the Hollywood crybabies like Susan Sarandon and Richard Gere (who are terrible actors on top of being self-made know-it-alls).
Personally, I don’t believe that this war is really about freeing Iraq but as for the troops, it’s not their fault. We have to hope that they all come home safe and stop badmouthing them and what they are doing. They don’t have much choice in the matter, unfortunately.
I’ve been reading a lot about both sides of the spectrum in terms of celebrities speaking out. It seems the main difference between the Susan Sarandon’s and the Dennis Miller’s is that the know-it-all Barabra Streisand’s are trying to tell us all what and how we should think about everything. I even read a quote this morning where Mrs. Sarandon made some comment basically saying that ‘if us informed regular people want to believe the jargon that’s on TV and the lies about her, she can’t help us’. As for that, if she thinks all of us “workin’ folk”, who waste our hard-earned money on her awful movies (which I can proudly say I’ve never spent a dime on) are really that unintelligent, then she truly does live in a bubble. She, like many of those overrated and untalented celebrities, surrounds themselves with as much self-importance as they can grab so they can feel like they are truly doing something great while not getting their fingers dirty.
As for Dennis Miller, Robert Duvall and so on, it seems most of their “speaking out” is against their fellow celebrities who just don’t quite understand that us regular people are intelligent enough to seek out any information we feel necessary and make our opinions without Tim Robbins or The Dixie Chicks telling us what we should like and support. I’ve been noticing a tidal wave of musicians like Lynard Skynard and Ted Nugent writing songs and talking about these celebrity big mouths. While I have my own opinions that don’t really agree with either side, I can say that while I may not see things exactly as Lynard Skynard or Toby Keith, I can see that their hearts are in the right place and overall, I’d rather listen to someone like Ted Nugent who is honest about what he thinks than three “Chicks” who change their opinion when it suits them.
Basically “Me”, I think that everyone basically agrees that both sides have the right to speak their minds but while I can see Lynard Skynard offering to share an audience with the Dixie Chicks to open a forum or Robert Duvall starring in a movie with any given self-important celebrity, I couldn’t see The “Chicks” being so open to sharing a forum with Uncle Ted or ZZ Top. The lengths that people like Susan Sarandon and The Dixie Chicks go to to be surrounded by ONLY like-mided sheep is rather pathetic. Discussion and argument is always for the greater good, no matter what it is about. It’s just a shame that some people try their damnedest to fight for the front of the line of everything.
