Brrrr! Is that a chill wind I’m feeling?

Radio station hires host fired for political views

He’s baaaaaaack. Thayrone, aka Terry Hughes, the uninhibited host of the “Bone Conduction Music Show” who was fired April 2 by WEMU-FM (89.1 FM) in Ypsilanti, has been picked up by Kool 107 (WQKL-FM, 107.1) in Ann Arbor, a Clear Channel station.

The new show will run from 7-11 Sunday nights, starting Sunday.

Hughes was fired from WEMU because he refused to run National Public Radio news headlines at the top of the hour and because he repeatedly expressed his political views about the war in Iraq (pro-war and pro-President Bush).

After a Detroit News story about his firing was linked on the Drudge Report and other Web sites, Hughes became the toast of the conservative TV and radio pundit scene for a few days, appearing on Fox TV’s “O’Reilly Factor With Bill O’Reilly.” O’Reilly and others made much of the fact that Hughes was professing conservative political views on a Public Radio station, where liberal views are more commonplace.

The radio executive who snapped Hughes up is Ray Nelson, general manager for Clear Channel’s Ann Arbor stations.

Ironically, a station owned by the largest radio chain in the United States is giving Hughes what he couldn’t get from a Public Radio station: complete creative control.

“It was Public Radio that tried to shut the show down, control it and homogenize it,” Hughes charged.

Someone please close the window – - it’s getting cold in here **shiver** That ol’ chill wind is a’blowin and I’m catching a draft! I didn’t catch it in the article – -however, did Tim Robbins – the Hollywood champion of free speech – come to this guys rescue, by chance?

Of course not – - why? Because this kind of dangerous pro-Bush banter doesn’t fit in with the Hollywood leftist agenda. And that’s my final answer, Regis.

  1. Well, Tim Robbins not coming to his aid is no surprise. Ol’ Tim is only good for flatulating that chill wind of his. I have friends who love NPR and use it as their main source of news on the radio. They rarely listen to anything Clear Channel whom they say should be banned. I am not making this up. They think that the government should shut down Clear Channel and the do not think that there is anything hypocritical about that stance.

This, proves, again that all of this rhetoric is just leftist agitiprop.

    Clear Channel rocks!

You should have seen their faces when their favority Alternative Rock station turned out to be a Clear Channel station.

    muwuhahahahahahahhaahaha

  2. Clear Channel does rock!

    Ahem… FREE CAM!

  3. And I’d like to add that Clear Channel hasn’t said “boo” to me about what I say on the air. It doesn’t matter if I’m trashing those who call America a fascist state (see the website for the complete debunking), or if I’m taking on the Patriot Act for being a bad piece of legislation.

The most important thing for Clear Channel is making money. That’s not to say they’re not a charitable company, because they are… but their bottom line is THE bottom line. If a liberal talk show host could make them money, he/she would be on in a heartbeat. It’s just that, for some strange reason, nobody wants to listen to Al Franken or Janeane Garofolo for three freakin’ hours a day.

  4. Clear Channel is great – - they’d be TONS better if only they would FREE CAM!

Liberal radio just won’t fly, I think. Imagine Paul Begala? Alan Colms? Or, heaven help us, James Carville?

    Oy.

    I need a drink now.

  5. Does the station stream over the internet? I’m not busy this Sunday and would like to take a listen.

    Anybody got a link?

  6. I am Glad that Terry Hughes is from Michigan. God Bless Terry Hughes a real Michigan Conservative. I never heard of him till today but im glad I did I so wanna catch his Radio Show if I can even though I live very far from Ann Arbor.

  7. First the chill wind. Now, the FCC has loosened restrictions so we’ll only be getting one-sided views. Joe Scarborough had this on his show tonight. Write your congressmen please. Need to get this stopped. I think we can feel a strong chill wind coming in from the left.

  8. Clear Channel does not ‘rock’ (as erroneously stated in some prior posts). Clear Channel is the anti-Christ of American radio broadcast. What rocks is 100% free to play and say what you want radio…and no Clear Channel entity can do that, not one. What rocks is THE BONE CONDUCTION MUSIC SHOW. And you can catch it and it’s fly-in-the-face of sans-soul Clear Channel shoe-scrape residue on the stations listed on my website at:

    http://www.thayrone.com/

In addition to the four and two-hour source-code versions of THE BONE CONDUCTION MUSIC SHOW, we start a weekly, Monday through Friday, 9:00 pm EST talk show, ON THE EDGE WITH THAYRONE…it starts June 6th, 2005. We also start webcasting all BCMS programs and content in mid-May 2005. It all happens on Talk Radio 1600, WAAM Ann Arbor:

So get hooked up and tune in to the only real music and truly independant talk radio coming down the pike

Run, don’t walk, to my website and get on the email mailing list…like now.

We’ll leave the light on for you,

    Thayrone X
