Chris Columbus will no longer be directing the Harry Pottery movies. Now there is one of the Follywood political types at the reins who has compared George W. Bush to the series evil wizard Voldemort as well as Saddam Hussein – - and Tony Blair to Fudge, the slippery Minister of Magic.

Cuaron’s outspokenness is also new to the franchise. Does the evil wizard Voldemort still remind him of George W. Bush, as he said recently? “In combination with Saddam,” he says. “They both have selfish interests and are very much in love with power. Also, a disregard for the environment. A love for manipulating people. I read books four and five, and Fudge… Rowling’s slippery Minister of Magic… is similar to Tony Blair. He’s the ultimate politician. He’s in denial about many things. The way the Iraq thing was handled was not unlike the way Fudge handled affairs in book four.” Cuaron’s scrappiness is either refreshing or worrying, depending on your stock portfolio.

I have enjoyed the Harry Potter series and will continue reading the books as they are released.

However, I have no interest in viewing a film directed by a man who is close-minded and cannot keep fiction from reality. Let alone one who makes such grossly exaggerated comparisons.

Why these Follywood types feel a need to continuously enter into the political arena – - I’ll never know.
