Rickie Lee Jones, “The Evening of My Best Day,” sounds at first like her classic sounds. But beneath the breezy, swinging sound lies political rage that bubbles up in the song “Ugly Man.”

The tune is about President Bush, who, she says, “grew up like his father – ugly inside.”

When asked about the song “Ugly Man,” she responded with several answers.

Here are a few:

Jones: “For me, it’s definitely about the Bushes. They have no redeeming qualities. They’re despicable. The wealth that they grew up with – not to say this kind of wealth is always evil – but it separates them from the rest of us. They live lives where they create laws they don’t have to live by. The Bushes have a very smug arrogance. To me, that’s intolerable as they swim in oil money without regard to the environment and the land that the rest of us live in.”

The interview by the Post is rather long and is definitely something to read – - I can honestly say this compact disc will not be making it into my collection – - nor do I ever care to hear it.

She finds our nation’s leader despicable – - I personally find the amount of Bush bashing that is going on in our nation despicable.
