Free Speech for me, not for Thee

Earlier, I had posted about the Liberal’s new voice for the launch of their dream liberal talk radio network. Funny man, Al Franken is the guy who is going to take it to the top for the liberals.

That champion of free speech.

That defender of the little guy.

That body slamming former wrestler liberal strong arm henchman? Hmmm…

Wise-cracking funnyman Al Franken yesterday body-slammed a demonstrator to the ground after the man tried to shout down Gov. Howard Dean. The tussle left Franken’s trademark thick-rim glasses broken, but he said he was not injured.

Franken – who seemed in a state of shock and out of breath after the incident – was helped back to his feet by several people who watched the tussle. Police arrived soon after.

“I got down low and took his legs out,” said Franken afterwards.

Franken said he’s not backing Dean but merely wanted to protect the right of people to speak freely. “I would have done it if he was a Dean supporter at a Kerry rally,” he said.

“I’m neutral in this race but I’m for freedom of speech, which means people should be able to assemble and speak without being shouted down.”

The trouble started when several supporters of fringe presidential candidate Lyndon Larouche began shouting accusations at Dean.

Franken emerged from the crowd and charged one male protester, grabbing him with a bear hug from behind and slamming him onto the floor.

“I was a wrestler so I used a wrestling move,” Franken said.

AL FRANKEN KNOCKS DOWN DEAN HECKLER

What about the freedom to assemble without being pushed down, Al?

I guess freedom of speech is ok – as long as you’re doing it Al’s way. This liberal radio network thing headed up by Al Franken should be a hoot!

  1. The third one kinda contradicts the first two, doesn’t it? Maybe Franken’s liberal agenda radio show will be good for laughs, but I’ve always had a very senitive stomach and I gag easily too. So I’d better just stay away.

  2. Sooooo basically we can all speak openly untill we piss off Franken!! He must have been looking in his mirror that morning, ‘I’m smart enough, good enough and dawg gone people like me”…a little full of himself I suspect. I’m not too little, not too big but I think I could have taken Al…yep I know I could have because I’m good enough and smart enough and dawg gone have pity on the man if he ever put a hand on me…:)

  3. Now, why is that bit about conservatives being “so mean and angry” jumping out at me right now? Perhaps the liberals are trying to prove that they can be just as mean and angry as conservatives allegedly are, but I fail to see the rationalism in Al Franken that those liberals on that video insisted that they see.

Maybe if I try to look at it through “rational” eyes rather than through the logical eyes of a “mean, angry conservative,” it would make more sense? Oy…I doubt it somehow…

  4. Well…franken needs to be put on a leash, he’ll ultimately do them more harm than good. For as intelligent as he wants to come across he succumbed to violence. I suggest all these candidates watch some old richard pryor footage and learn how to deal with hecklers or here’s a thought..answer the people..the people yelling out, they are the ones you want to someday lead. Give em what they want…a true response.

  5. I agree, Sandy. Answer these people. By staying cool, calm and rational it does more to put a bucket of water on the fire than acting like Neanderthal with a club does. A good way to instill confidence and lure in future voters is to convey a sense of level-headedness and intelligence. And be careful who you ask to your fundraisers.

  6. hey kentuckian…let’s not help them by giving advice though….give ‘em enuff rope and they’ll hang themselves…haha..

  7. I guess I would expect this of Franken, and I hope the guy sues him!

  8. I guess I would expect this of Franken, and I hope the guy sues him!

  9. What makes this so special is the way the Franken Followers have harped about Bill O’Reilly being against free speech because he tells out of control people, like Franken, to SHUT UP. We now see how is really against free speech…

    Dave (Hi, I’m new here)

  10. Kentuckian, you’re right on the money! I think of the calm, collected way Donald Rumsfeld made Jim Lehrer squirm last March, and I think it is quite telling how effective keeping your cool is.

Now if I can just learn how to do that myself…heeheehee…

  11. Ditto, American Girl. I work up too easily for anybody’s good. And I tain’t learned to keep a lid on it yet. And the Libbies just add kindlin’ to the fire.

  12. You know, Kentuckian, it sounds like we’re pretty much in (or on) the same battleship here. ((sigh)) Ah, well…

  13. These days, as far as the Libbies and a few others are concerned, I think a lot of us are on that battleship.

  14. A very sad — and true!!! — state of affairs. :(
