Aristide Packs His Bags

Jean-Bertrand Asristide Bows to Pressure & Leaves Haiti

President Jean-Bertrand Aristide left Haiti on Sunday, bowing to pressure from a rebellion at home and governments abroad. The Bush administration said it welcomed Aristide’s departure and said it was in the best interests of Haiti.

A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Aristide left at about 6:45 a.m. EST, accompanied by members of his security detail.

An Associated Press reporter saw an unmarked white jet take off from Port-au-Prince’s airport Sunday morning. Cabinet minister and close adviser Leslie Voltaire said Aristide was on board along with his palace security chief Frantz Gabriel.

Voltaire said Aristide, Haiti’s first democratically elected president in 200 years of independence, was flying to the Dominican Republic and would seek asylum in Morocco, Taiwan or Panama.

Leaving Haiti on his own is a good idea – - I don’t think he would have liked the alternatives.

  1. I agree and this is welcome news.

  2. And John Crybaby, Fing Kerry is out there moaning about the loss of Aristide.

He is quoted in saying that if he were president he would have issued an ultimatum to the insurgents, in order to keep Aristide in power.

Scott Mclellan had it right when he said that Aristide was brought to power democratically but then he used his power to abuse all of the democratic processes.

  3. … not entirely unlike George W. Bush

  4. Yeah, that pesky George W. Bush! out there rebuilding the economy, creating jobs (much to the contrary of popular belief), putting that wholesome, peaceful, family oriented group, Al Qieda, on the run… freeing a bunch of ungrateful people, who do not know how to make decisions for themselves BTW, from the downtrodden and persecuted Saddam Hussein… when are we going to leave that guy alone? Yeah, I just can’t take much more of this guy W…. I can’t believe he loves God, what is he thinking? How dare he push his religious views on the majority of the US, doesn’t he know we have separation of church and state, even though it’s not in the constitution… it ought to be!!! (I’m not even going to touch Same-sex marriages, for fear of offending some very prickly people in this post who obviously do not have the same moral conscience as I do…)
And what about those poor senior citizens, he has taken away their right to self-govern their lives and forced prescription drugs down their throats… and he is so stupid, he flubbed his way through Harvard to get a faux MBA, on paper only… I can’t believe he made a 1200 on his SAT when he was 17… man what a dunce…

Hey, I know what we can do…
why don’t we get a guy who is a flip-flopping fish/frog/slimy weaseling appeaser who can’t make up his mind about not making up his mind, who constantly contradicts himself and supports AND under minds all the programs and policies and who believes in free speech except if you disagree with him, then you have to shut up, because you haven’t been through what he has been through… who takes out a mortgage for 6 million dollars on a home he has joint ownership with his wife, which is only worth 6 million dollars in market value and doesn’t think he broke any campaign laws… and who divorced his first wife in her time of need and went gold digging to find another heiress to finance his perverse life style…

Yeah, that’s the guy we need in office… vote Kerry in ’04… Clinton Part II…

  5. George bush has been great to me! I’m the CEO of a major corporation and I love him! More dick and bush in 2004!

  6. Very true about those alternatives, Reilly, such as becoming a cellmate to Saddam Hussein. There’s always that one…

  7. I love the fact that he called on a cell phone to say we kidnapped him! And Rangle put that out to the press!
