Think Of John

Today Senator John Kerry is in sunny San Diego, California speaking at a rally at the Price Center. Of course California, specifically San Diego County, has the highest gas prices in the nation – - so what do you think John spoke about? That’s right, lowering gas prices.

He discussed how he believes President Bush and Vice President Cheney have done everything they possibly can to assist their major financial contributors in the oil industry while sticking it to hard working Americans at the pumps. He then went further to say “our military men and women should never have to fight and die for foreign oil.”

The crowd roared in cheers – - and the Kerry spell was being cast and in an affective manner.

Listening to the “highlights” of his speech were enough to make me shout out at the television asking was anyone present really listening to what he was saying? Especially when he stated: “I’m going to stand up for students and middle-class families and all those who need relief at the pump.”

And there it was – - the flip – a spectacular 9.5 and it would seem those in attendance cheered even more loudly while ignoring that the flip had even been performed.

Here is the flip – - John Kerry has backed gas tax increases eleven times. He has supported major per gallon tax increases that would hit the average family for about $650.00 more at the pump per year.

Is this how John is going to stand up and give relief to the average student and middle class family? Can “average America” afford him in office?

So next time all those people in California who pay on average $2.12 per gallon and those elsewhere in the nation where the average gas price is $1.80 are filling up their cars to go to work, pick up the kids from school, run errands and all the things we do on a day to day basis – - let’s think of John Kerry and thank him for looking out for us – - Aren’t we lucky?

  1. Wow! I see you point Reilly!

So let me get the straight, John Kerry voted to send our troops to Iraq for oil?

  2. Again Todd I’m not going to do your research for you – - this post is about Kerry not GW – - So I suggest you google it.

I also see you have no comment about Kerry and his record – - but then that isn’t surprising.

  3. “our military men and women should should never have to fight and die for foreign oil”.

That sound’s like a very cheap unfair shot at President Bush. Bad Senator. Bad bad bad. No dinner for you tonight.

  4. Not to do Todd’s own personal sniping for him:

But the current ‘scheme’ of the John Kerry camp is to portray President Bush’s speech that John Kerry’s Voting Record of Higher Taxes 350 times is false.

    Is it false?

When you look at Kerry.com, and go down to the DBunker section.

John Kerry flat out admits that it isn’t false in a weirded way. He says that the 350 Higher Taxation instances include John Kerry wanting to keep the tax the same when a tax cut was proposed and wanting a lesser tax cut when a greater tax cut was proposed.

Well? The Democrats want to call this ‘Fudging’ and ‘Lying’ but common sense tells me that that isn’t the case. In both scenarios, John Kerry is in support of a higher tax.

  5. Bush is fair game as far as gas prices go. He attacked Clinton on gas prices 4 years ago. That pretty much makes it open season on Bush.

I don’t think the President ever has much to do with Gas prices; but I doubt the average voter would understand that.

  6. todd – - I didn’t state you were off topic – - I merely made an observation that as usual you have no comment about the person the post is in reference to.

And again any of Bush’s stats I suggested you google it for that information as I’m not going to do all the research for you especially being I was not posting about Bush, but rather about Kerry giving a speech in San Diego and the contents of that speech.

  7. Reading this story made me think of the way Kerry is insisting he will keep jobs from going overseas…yet for whatever reason seemed to allow the jobs for his own wife’s company slip overseas. Whoops.

This guy is so transparent it’s not even funny. Unless, of course, it’s in the form of Jay Leno’s monologue from last night, where he declared that the reason he listens to John Kerry is to get both sides of the issue. There’s absolutely nothing stable about this man, aside from his arrogance and haughty “King John”-attitude.

  8. Umm…todd? His job is to approve the laws that Congress creates. When the Senate and the House approve a bill, they send it to the President. If he agrees with the law, he signs it and the law goes into effect.

So, your ‘guess’ that George Bush “voted the same way”? The President doesn’t cast votes on proposed legislation – he approves or vetos such things.

Now, really – without your commentary about Bush – how do you feel about the content of Kerry’s speech? Let’s here from a Democrat on where your feelings stand regarding the speech topic?

  9. President Bush’s voting record is that he never held the power to vote. He was Governor of Texas before he was President of the United States. As President you can only sign into law, laws that are already voted on. Or you can decide to veto it.

President Bush was accused of going to Iraq in order to ‘secure Iraqi Oil’ for American Businesses by the lefties.

Now all of a sudden they criticize Prseident Bush for not lowering the Gas Prices? Who is it that won’t drill for oil in Anwar Alaska? It’s the democratic party that is stalling all efforts to drill for oil in Anwar.

John F Kerry secetly talked to Union Leaders about drilling for oil. Now he isn’t even bringing that up for discussion. John Kerry, I feel, lied to the union leaders in order to get support.

I can get a link to anything I wrote here upon request.

  10. it seems to me that the people in the audience during Kerry’s speech have never heard of OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries)Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.
sounds like some really nice people there… and they are cutting production… that is what is raising prices at the pump, Mr. Kerry… now, tell me, where does President Bush fit into all this? and how is he causing the prices to go up?

  11. My senator, Levin, has been promising to look into this for 3 years. Don’t feel bad, I am still waiting, and don’t worry, I quit holding my breath.:)

I guess he couldn’t find a way to blame Bush, so he just quit looking!

  12. i agree that attacking bush isn’t fair and won’t be respected in the end.

the one to blame are the big three automakers who lie to the americans telling us we all need SUVs. the rest of the world survives just fine on 1-2 liter engines, we are told we need 4-6 and four wheel drive.

  13. I drive a 1994 Ford F-150. It has a 351 in it. I use it to haul various things in, and used it to pull down my old garage with.

I will always own a truck, becasue where I live it is just to useful.

    Ted

  14. fair enough. i used to own a truck too, when i lived where i needed to use dirt roads a lot. commuters don’t need one.

  15. maybe they don’t need one, but it is their right to own one. And to say that the big 3 is lying is a stretch to say the least. They are producing what the customer is demanding. People are hauling more with their vehicles than they did 15 years ago…look at the increase in water craft and winter craft…

  16. The US is not like the rest of the world, we have longer roads and longer commutes. Those of us in the north have use for 4-wheel drive. SUVs are also needed for larger families.

I do get a little annoyed when I am in south Florida and see a single individual in an SUV and do not see a baby seat in back… but it’s their choice. I wouldn’t want someone telling me what I can and can’t drive. I’ll continue to do my part by driving a high-mileage car and encourage others to do the same.

Meanwhile with Republicans controlling Congress and the Senate, the big 3 are still about to roll out the next generation of hybrids, including SUV hybrids in the next few years. As the market demands it, these hybrids will become more commonplace and thus less costly.

  17. Not only that, but the fact that home ownership is at a record high, and long term rates are still at cyclical lows. People are buying homes, and those with homes are refinancing and making improvements… notice all those extra Home Depot’s and Lowe’s around lately? Trucks come in handy there… not to mention the fact that homes tend to be away from city centers, leading to longer commutes. Here in Michigan, 4 wheel drive sure comes in handy on those January days for some people…

  18. drive around any beltway in any major city and you will see single drivers in SUVs. by lying i mean that the big three have advertized that people need SUVs. sure it it is a choice, and people’s ATM cards are feeling that choice. people didn’t think they needed SUVs until they were told they needed them.

sure, i used to use an RV to save on hotel rooms until i realized i could drive my car and have enough for a nice room! and that was a year ago.

the government has been slacking, but in ways no one has talked about. by 2006 over half of the vehicles in Europe will be diesel. not the clanky, old, smelly diesel, but new generation turbo diesels, which have a lot of torque and lend themsleves well to 4 wheel drive and truck applications.

this is possible because their diesel is clean and low in sulfer, and cheaper than gas (as it should be, it is less refined than gas). America’s isn’t, it is very high in sulfer and this has restricted the flow of this technology to this country. Why? do the big three really want people driving cars that aren’t tanks? no, they want a big profit margin for every SUV they sell. and of, course there are the obvious connections with the big oil companies which want people to buy as much gas as possilbe until it runs out (about 3 decades according to most scientists).

i drive a VW tdi and get 45mpg. i went to cali for spring break, drove 30 hours and spent about $80 at cali prices. if more people knew of these options, and had them available, they would do it too. i don’t do this necessarily for the environment, i do it because the US’s dependence on oil from the middle east sickens me, when there are so many alterantives available. and i’m a cheap-ass mother.

  19. Wow, I can’t believe I agree with dicknbush about something! I do think politics plays a big part in our not moving to better alternative fuel sources. Not just improved diesel engines, but other alternatives such as electric and hydrogen engines. The big three would suffer greatly if alternative fuel sources hit the market in mass numbers, and that’s something they obviously don’t want to happen.

  20. point taken dicknbush…..Do you know what the reason is that we can’t get our diesal fuel to the standard of Europes? That does seem odd. The late 70′s got people thinking about this fuel source, but it kinda petered out here..The auto companies can still get their profits as long as the cars can fit families and the cars are safe on the road. After the oil crisis n the 70′s, small cars were in and traffic fatalities were up!

  21. american refineries say that it isn’t cost effective to remove sulfer from fuel. but, they will have to to meet the new standards by 2006. until then, we’ll keep getting shafted at the pump.

i know what you mean about small cars. but, a car can be made effecient, small adn safe – prius and VWs are the best in their class for safety. SUV bait ;)

  22. I can’t fit my family of 5, my Golden Retriever and my German Shepard in a VW.

If they can come up with the efficiencies, that’s fine. But the have to maintain the safety, the power and the size for me.

BTW, why do the American Refineries have to meet the Euro standards by 2006, OOC?

    Ted

  23. not necessarily euro standards, but clean air standards. by 2006, the air standards now in place in california will be the same as the rest of the nation. the irony is that the sulfer is still the fuel until 2006, so you can’t buy a 2004 VW tdi because of the emmisions put out by the pooor fuel! (light truck turbo diesels are exempt like the cummins or isuzu)

so ted, you could fit all you family in an expendition, land rover, etc, if they had diesel engines available and get 20-30% better consumption, and more pulling power (torque) than you do now. they do have dielsel power plants overseas in toyotas like the rav4 and the jeep liberty. america’s draconian system has kept this technology from this country and is keeping us poor.
