New Terror Threat

U.S. Warns Of Al Qaeda Threat This Summer

Federal officials have information suggesting that al Qaeda has people in the United States preparing to mount a large-scale terrorist attack this summer, sources familiar with the information said yesterday.

So many have made jest over the terror threat levels put into place after 9/11. I, myself, have sometimes wondered if they haven’t been a little itchy with the trigger finger in their warnings. However, after an event like 9/11, considering we are a nation at war – on the same level, I find the warnings and awareness justified.

This one I am particularly worried about given the terrorist attack in Madrid and the subsequent reaction in the elections in Spain. That reaction told the terrorists, loud and clear, that an attack such as that can influence a nation’s elections and the people’s opinion. Whether that is what swung the vote in Spain, or not — I’d be willing to bet that from Al Qaeda’s perspective, it was a victory in that sense. That seems to me to be enough motivation for them to try it in the US prior to the November election.

Fear is an extremely effective motivating tool – and Al Qaeda has much stock in it. I wholeheartedly hope that this nation is on it’s toes this summer…considering the upcoming election in November. I, for one, could go without seeing anymore intelligence failures from our nation’s finest.

  1. One must also remember that OBL is a highly educated man. For me this makes him especially dangerous. I live in the DC area and I can tell you that everytime I take metro I cross my fingers. I have always believed that they would try again. After Spain when they achieved more than what they thought they would I have been even more convinced they would try an attack again here.

  2. Regarding the terror alert system- I hold the opinion that it has probably been a tool in preventing attacks also. The terrorists have the same access to it as the rest of yes, and when they realize that the US is aware that something may happen I am sure it dissuades them becasue it removes one of the best weapons in their arsenal- suprise.

  3. IMO the terrorists have seen the fruits of their “labor” in Spain; how they changed the course of a nation of cowards… but the one thing they have yet to grasp is the pride Americans have of just being American…

If… IF they are able to pull off another attack here, I believe it will back fire on them… I believe that Pres. Bush will definitely be re-elected and it is because of the pride that we have that this will happen…

For one I think that if John Kerry is elected he will duck and run as all liberal weenies are known to do (i.e. Carter in Iran; Clinton in Mogadishu) and as Americans we can smell weakness in our ‘leaders’ even leaders such as Kerry. We will elect strength and wisdom and leadership, such as what we have seen and continue to see in George W. Bush… another thing is that when we are kicked, we kick back, but not one at a time or incrementally… No, we all kick back at the same time… we gather our strength and come at you with over 228 years of sticking together, of patriotism, of freedom…

They will not succeed in diverting the course of this country because we are stronger than thugs and robbers and thieves… our combined strength and love of freedom have overcome too much to be influenced by radicals…

  4. To call Spain a nation of cowards isn’t accurate, if you ask me. The Socialist party that took control did not do so with a majority. Besides, I can’t blame the people of Spain for their actions- they don’t have the history, resources or power that America does. You have to look at it from their perspective to be fair about it.

I am not agreeing with their decision, however I think it is unfair for us to sit here and call them cowards, or any other derogatory remark for that matter.

As for your assessment on an attack- yeah it may well backfire.

  5. If we were to be attacked again, Bush would win in a landslide not seen since Reagan/Carter

No doubt the Dems would try to blame the attack on Bush and his foreign policy, but those who did would have signed their own pink slip.

  6. I hear people call them scare tactics and all but i know that if they didn’t try to warn people at all and something happen it would be “what did you know, and when did you know it!?”, so either way your in trouble from the left.

  7. Well you better hope that President Gomer Pyle’s Administration doesn’t let 911 happen again like they did the first time…..

“How do we get the populace to agree with a war in Iraq? Scare them into submission!”

  8. Gomer Pyle? i’m confused-Slick Willie Clinton is no longer president.

  9. ted- he can’t really be a truth seeker can he? :)

  10. your right ted, I shouldn’t have called them cowards, but their view of what to do with terrorists is wrong.

Hey, Truth-skewer, How the hell did this administration LET 9-11 happen? did they call OBL and say “yeah, go ahead and bomb us, so our guy can get re-elected”????

I have one question for you… how is MOVEON.ORG treating you??? are they paying you enough???

EX-president Clinton and his lackies in his administration nearly crippled America’s ability to fight terrorism and dismantled our military almost to the point of utter desolation and this administration has increased military spending and have began the difficult task of rebuilding it all. so it can be said that the previous administration that is more responsible for 9-11 than this one… so get your facts straight little one, before you speak…

  11. The best defense against terrorist is a big gun and lots of gumpsion and ted kennedy be damned
