Carl Lewis Accuses Bush

Carl Lewis accused George Bush of exploiting the Athens Games for his own political advantage in the run-up to the presidential election.

He condemned Bush for using the presence of Iraqi and Afghan teams in Athens in a television advertisement to boost his chances of re-election.

Criticising Bush for linking his foreign policy with the two countries being allowed to compete here, Lewis said: ‘I felt that was disingenuous. It is funny that we boycotted the 1980 Games [in Moscow] in support of Afghanistan, and now we’re bombing Afghanistan,’ he told the Athens News yesterday.

‘Of course, we’ve invaded Iraq and are in there and are using it for political gain. It bewilders me, and I understand why the Iraqi players are offended.

‘To support the players or the community is fine, but for political gain I disagree.’

This is an example of what happens when a complete lack of perspective is involved.

  5. Before anyone starts to explain who he is, let me quickly add that I already know who this washed-up has-been is… His fifteen minutes were up a long time ago, and he’s just trying to find that limelight one last time… I wish he’d find some of that blazing speed he once had and run his way back into obscurity…

  6. with the left every thing is bad “hey don’t shwo those facts about me, that negative politics and mudslinging, no more facts” or in this case “hey stop bringing up the facts that you freed 2 countries, that’s just wrong to show off what you did, you should be ashamed!”.
