So on Sunday night when John Kerry’s daughters were announced to speak at the annual MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, the MTV youth were expected to welcome his daughter’s as pop culture princesses.
Instead, in an era of the unexpected, the daughters of the Democratic candidate were met with cheers — AND JEERS — during the live broadcast in Miami.
From the moment Alexandra and Vanessa started speaking, the boos outweighed anything close to cheers, and the reaction turned worse when the daughters asked the VIACOM youth to vote for their father. So shocked by the reaction, the taller of the two daughters tried to ‘shhhhhh’ her peers to no avail.
She was trying to ‘shhhh’ them. How condescending can you get? What is she trying to say – that these kids don’t have the right to voice their opinion about their presence on the stage?
Pop culture princesses?? I wonder if the youths in the audience were boo’ing because the were Kerry’s daughters? Or boo’ing because the just got railroaded into a political speech? Maybe these kids just want their MTV and not to have part of the Kerry campaign shoved down their throat?
Who knows – - this was in Florida, after all.
Maybe they weren’t saying “boo,” they were saying “boo-urns.”
Wow- That had to hurt!
In a way, you may be right..these people didn’t go for poitics, they went for mudic/entertainment.
Folks, I really think that there should be a recount of the cheers vs. the jeers.
It may have been very difficult to determine who the girls were. There must have been a problem with the sound system and the folks must have mistakenly thought that these were the Bush twins.
Another thing, how do we know that they were boos. The INTENNT of their response could have been to cheer the girls. We really need a recount…
doubletake- you are an ass and I mean that with love:lol::lol::wink:
Peejz,
I don’t even know what to say to that???
Wow their getting the same treatment that micheal moore and linda ronstant got well and lets not forget the dixie chicks(chumps)and who know what else it shows that there something going on out there that the main_stream media will never tell us:shock::twisted::mrgreen:
I like confronting the Kool-aid drinkers who are bemoaning the fact the Kerrys got booed. My favorite question back at them is “Would you be as outraged if Barbara and Jenna Bush were the ones on stage asking for votes for their father?”
It’s encouraging to see some of the youth of today not buying all of the MTV political spin!
well,i don’t understand why anyone would get their NEWS from MTV(MUSIC television). I am a sophomore at the university of south florida and I can proudly say that I am an outspoken, card-holding republican. rather than accepting what my liberal, baby boomer professors say is true or not true about politics, i look at the FACTS and make my own opinions. i realize that the majority of the media is skewed to the left(MTV!!!), so i don’t rely on it to state anything that is COMPLETELY or even partially factual. the only news media that i watch is fox news because they present both sides. books are also very helpful in stating the facts, well, unless it is written by a liberal(then you’ll always get only partial truths). Unless you want to see provocative clothing and/or find out who is dating who is hollywood, MTV is not recommended. I thank the person who started this site because I am actually able to express my opinion without getting scorned by a liberal teacher that preaches the greatness of freedom of speech (as long as it coincides with what they believe).
Some of the articles on this are suggesting that the Bush twins were also met with boos.

Another article is claiming:
‘After seeing the show broadcast live, then watching the re-broadcast of the show, many are crying foul as it seems that MTV has dubbed over, or edited out many of the boos the daughters recieved.’

Interesting.
And I used to respect Davy Jones of the Monkees. Davy owns a large chunk of MTV. I believe he was one of the founders.
Well written piece geli! Welcome aboard:smile:
well thank you very much. i can say the same for some of the stuff you, pcd, and snowy egret have written.
And all of the coverage of the event, at least what I’ve seen of CNN and Inside Edition, has declared that the event on the whole was uneventful, with nary a mention of nary a boo.
Wonder if this is the lovely “First Amendment” we have to look forward to in the event of a “President Kerry”?
Was any boo-mention made on FoxNews, by any chance?
I think it’s awesome that MTV has always tried to bring awareness to the youth about the importance of voting..however when will these people learn that award shows of any kind just are not the place to preach politics! DEMOCRATS sure know how to “wreck” a good time.http://www.rightvoices.com/wp-images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

The Bush Twins made their appearence, also. I didn’t hear any more boo’s when they were on then when the Kerry’s were.
I just figured it was the whole “We don’t want Politics, we want an awards show,” sentiment more than anything. Still funny, though.
