A War To Which We Had To Respond

Ron Silver criticized the entertaiment community for failing to recognize the irony in their protests against oppression AND their protests against the liberation of Iraq:

Even though I am a well-recognized liberal on many issues confronting our society today, I find it ironic that many human rights advocates and outspoken members of my own entertainment community are often on the front lines to protest repression, for which I applaud them but they are usually the first ones to oppose any use of force to take care of these horrors that they catalogue repeatedly.

Under the unwavering leadership of President Bush, the cause of freedom and democracy is being advanced by the courageous men and women serving in our Armed Services.

The President is doing exactly the right thing.
That is why we need this President at this time!

I am grateful for the chance to speak tonight to express my support for our Commander-in-Chief, for our brave troops, and for the vital cause which they have undertaken.

General Dwight Eisenhower’s statement of 60 years ago is true today . . .

“United in this determination and with unshakable faith in the cause for which we fight, we will, with God’s help, go forward to our greatest victory.” Thank you.

Flashback on Ron Silver’s support in ’03 – - another man whose message remains consistent.

  1. His speech was thoughtful and well spoken! He kept the audience’ attention from start to finish. I thought he had a clear cut message, and I commend him on his courage to stand up and speak against his fellow actors.

  2. He is right these same bunch of fools who are protesting against the war on terrorists are supporting a bunch of oppressors yeah to all the antiwar peace nik pansies are the biggest supporters just look at traitors like SEAN PENN and his meeting with war crinimal sadam he(penn)should be indited for treason:grin::idea::cool:

  3. The thing about wars like Iraq is that we go in thinking that our culture is better than theirs. I’m not saying that they weren’t oppressed or anything, but their culture is radically different from theirs, and we are forcibly changing their culture. We go in expecting them to cheer us as liberators, and then when they keep fighting back and bombing we don’t know what to do. We cannot force them to believe that our way is the one right way to live. It is not that simple.

  4. Kay- I don’t think we went in trying to change their culture. We want them to be free and to prosper. We want them to have the opportunity to enjoy their culture and customs with out the fear of the village being gased!

  5. Ron Silver is a very brave man. His support of President Bush may have lost him some “friends” in Hollywood, but at least he’s standing up for what he belives in. I saw his speech and was moved, almost to tears. His passion and sincerity is something to be admired. I have admired him for quite some time now,and he’s always going to have a place in my heart. He’s the best.:mrgreen:
