The Bush Rally

By: Lisa On: Sep/3/04 - 23 Comments

Ok, ok – demanding press retractions, aside… the rally was amazing! 15,000 + strong!

Bush basically gave the same speech as he did at the convention last night – - and it was a barn burner just as much as it was last night! And hey, how could he go wrong today – - he brought Laura with him:

That’s a picture we took — we were THAT close!

My visit there was not without some excitement, however. We had gotten special, escorted seats because we were part of the phone campaign prior to the rally. That means, we spent an hour prior to his appearance making phone calls on behalf of the Bush/Cheney campaign. Let me just say – - while there were some very excited people out there on the other end of the phone . . . the people on the other side weren’t too shy about telling you exactly how they feel about our President! Now I know how telemarketers feel! Oy!

We were escorted to our special area that was a whole 6 – 10 feet in front of the podium from which he spoke. It was great! It was standing room only down there – - and hotter than Georgia asphalt in the summer! Next to me stood an old lady . . . about 80 years old, and stood all of 5 foot high. It was really hot – - and about 3/4 of the way through his speech, she started to faint.

With the help of her son, I caught her and then looked up to call for help. The one and only person in the room that I made eye contact with was President Bush. I pointed at him and screamed “911!!! at the top of my lungs . . . then I went down on the floor with this lady to help, if I could.

From what I understand – - Bush paused in his speech and motioned for the emergency personnel to head over by us . . which they did, it took them mere minutes to get to us. In a crowd that size . . . and a crowd that hyped up – - they got there FAST and got her out of there quickly . . . on order from the President, who was – - as my father later pointed out to me, ordered by me!

Little ol’ me gave an order to the President of the United States – - and he obliged. I think I’m going to shoot for a cabinet position in ‘05, what do ya think?

All in all, we had a great time! The crowd was hyped – - the President was right on message and it was so exciting after all these years to finally get my chance to see him in person! Just want to thank my Dad for making the trip down to get the tickets and sign us all up for phone duty!

W in ‘04!

We took a TON of pictures – - Check them out in our gallery!

Lisa…WWWWWOOO OOOWWWWW!!!!!!!! congrats on finally getting to “See the Man!” so to speak. and Nice job on your fast thinking to help out the lady next to you who fainted and needed some medical help. Be nice to see you get some recognition for that but if not its still a nice thing you did.

    Way to go.

When Bush gets Congress to create the Department of Weblog Design, I’m sure you’ll be at the top of his short list.

It’s something anyone woulda done, Kevin – and the lady was ok, it was just too much heat, too much standing for too long a time. It was just kinda cool to lock eyes with the Prez. and know that he heard me. I’m easily thrilled that way, I guess :)

Sean – I’m waiting for the day ;) lol

    WOW!
We had a blast today! We got in and were about 6-10 feet away from the President during his speech.

We started our day at 7 am and were on our feet from 9am – 2pm and I’m exhausted and hungry!

I blogged all about it here. Including a TON of p…

So maybe not a stalking story, but the last time you got him to look at you you were waving like a fiend! Now you are calling 911!
You make me so proud! What a great story and I am glad that you finally got to hear him speak!

Lisa, I was standing about 1 person away from you! How funny! I recognize you from the picture and I was there when the lady fainted! It was too hot and too long to stand for someone that age, but I was amazed that sooo many people that age did. It was a great experience.

Lisa, I just remembered somthing. Didn’t you yell out something, some words of encouragement or support of some kind? I remember a woman yelling something and I think that is when I turned to my left and saw you one person away!

dao1 – Now THAT is funny! It surely is a small world, isn’t it? I did later find out, after making some inquiries, that the lady is ok – - she was taken to West Allis Memorial and treated in the ER for heat exhaustion and dehydration and then released a few hours later :) Her son told me later that he was lucky to have a Registered Nurse standing right next to his mother :)

And I did yell out some words of encouragement — many of them, actually . . . but I embarassed the people I was with when, during a break in GW’s speech and a quiet moment I yelled out “Thank you, Mr. President!” – - during a point in his speech he was talking about defending our nation.

My dad looked at Chris and said, “Is that woman with you???” ;)

dao1 – were you to my left, or to my right?

peejz – I should have remembered to wear the tee!! I can’t believe I forgot! I woke up that morning and was worried about finding something red to wear that wouldn’t be to warm for that expo center, because I knew it would be hot!

Damn. I shoulda wore the T!

    Lisa,
I did look through the pics and we didn’t make it in. My daughter and I were to the right of you. I spoke with your dad! I asked him if he knew one of the men speaking because I didn’t recognize him. I forgot who he told me me it was though! I’m glad the woman is ok. I did see President Bush tell his people to go over to where you were and he pointed to the area, so he definitely heard you. Very small e-world!

I said, “Well, why wouldn’t they?”

And now I have you to back me up lol
