AP Poll: Bush Holds Lead Over Kerry
President Bush opens the fall campaign with a slight lead over Democratic Sen. John Kerry, an Associated Press poll shows, as voters express growing confidence in the direction of the country and the performance of the incumbent. Seven weeks before Election Day, the Republican is considered significantly more decisive, strong and likable than Kerry, and he has strengthened his position on virtually every issue important to voters
I think his bounce has officially turned into a roll.
I’m afraid of getting cocky, but it sure is a nice way to kick off the weekend. With thoughts and prayers of three years ago, of course.
K- I’mwith you! I hope we win, but I just don’t want to get tooooo cocky about it. Well maybe I do, but I won’t:wink::smile:
Hi Pat in NC
You should be scared! Despite all the warnings about highjackings and Airliners, prior to 9/11, security was never beefed up at airports.
Bush failed us on 9/11!!
Bush failed us on “pre-emption”!!!
Bush failed our safety!!!
Bush failed our allies!!
Bush failed workers!!!
Bush failed — period!!!
I wonder how these hollywood dweebs are taking this? now that bush is leading scary kerry it must be bad news for the hollywood bunch even with all that i,ll gotten wealth they have obtained making movies glorifying grafic violence ans hard sex:mad::roll::razz:
Have you seen “Passion of the Christ”?
Besides. I’d rather have my violence in my movies rather than real life.
Typical pro-Life Warmongers. Get hung up on fake violence, and ejaculate over WAR!!!!!
*also enjoy these other wholesome, non-violent movies from Mel Gibson:
Mad Max (all three)
Lethal Weapon (however many)
And this just in, “The Unions are seeing a decline in members due to a sudden realization of what the unions are all about” Stay tuned for more update….
dg, seeing as how you are safe and secure enough to voice your opinion, no matter how uneducated and trite, it would appear that the President has succeeded on at least one level; keeping your ass alive and well. Be thankful for your good fortune and give the tantrums and belly-aches a rest.
Furthermore:
The Aviation and Transportation Security Act, which President Bush signed into law on November 19, 2001, took several major steps:
* It created the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), a new federal agency.
* It mandated that explosive-detection systems screen all checked bags for bombs and explosives.
* It required that all U.S. airport security be handled by federal employees.
* It called for fortified cockpit doors, more plainclothes sky marshals aboard planes, and mandatory training for flight crews about how to handle a hijacking.
Under the 2001 legislation, TSA screeners must undergo background checks and standardized training, speak English, and hold U.S.citizenship.
(Although a November 2002 federal court injunction blocked the
citizenship requirement, the screeners had already been hired by then.) In an effort to attract more qualified personnel and combat the high turnover among airport security guards, their pay is substantially higher than
the minimum wage that screeners previously received, and they receive health benefits.
The grim fact, aviation security experts say, is that most security problems are solved only after catastrophes occur. Put simply, the threat of someone commandeering an airliner and using it as a missile was considered highly unlikely because it had not yet happened. But there were
warnings that, in retrospect, security experts say should not have been ignored.
dg, I could go on and on but I fear there is no opening your mind. Continue to wallow in your hatred and it will eat you alive.
dg as far as “Bush failed our allies!!”
which allies are you speaking of? the many who stood with us in our fight or the ones who buried their heads in the sand? I wonder what Russia thinks about their passive resistance now. No matter what you try to convince yourself of, evil in the world does exist, eliminating tyrrany and oppression is noble, and given the choice, you would choose America and Freedom over enslavement and misery any day. It is time for you to be honest with yourself because, when it comes down to it, you are only fooling yourself. Luckily you live in a society where the strong will inadvertantley carry you along for the ride. If anything, you owe the President a thank-you card.
Ahhhh! the hardworkin’ peejz enlightens us with her insights on how us peons can make ends meet!
It baffles me how someone who’s only knowledge of “work” is their granddaddy’s hard work — which created the trusts they live on now and don’t have to work — can have such insight into those of us who DO work for a living!!
Aaron
You can go on and on about what Bush did AFTER 9/11. Read the official 9/11 Commission Report. Bush had several warnings of attack and multiple opportunities to stop it.
But he was on vacation!
Bush failed on 9/11!!!
And he’s duped you into thinking your safer. That’s dangerous!
dg- I said I do not work, I never said I have not worked. And don’t be mad at me because you made poor choices in life. I chose education after highschool. I had a very successful career, but now I am very happy and forunate not to need to work. You see I saved and invested. Waited until 30 to marry so as not to rush into anything and I couldn’t be happier.
The allies who urged patience and inspections. The ones who said let’s make sure we get it right before launching a war.
But Bush didn’t listen.
The French and Germans proved Bush wrong and Americans died ’cause Bush lied.
Aren’t you embarrassed? Do you think I like the position Bush has put the US in. That’s why he has got to go!!!!
Consider this:
1000 plus American lives lost in Iraq in 18 months. If Bush gets a second term, at that rate we will have lost more Americans in Iraq than we did on 9/11!!
Safer?
Jeez!!!
Well good for you peejz.
Meanwhile, the rest of us have to build the roads and infratucture so you have something to spend you money on.
I’m glad you’re so gracious and concerned with those who do the little, unimportant things, like dispose of your garbage.
…or police your streets, put out your fires, cash your checks, serve your coffee…
See? The one thing these greedy, corporate Republicans forget is:
If the people didn’t work, you wouldn’t be rich.
Although, sittin’ around, not working, and eating Bon Bon’s, must be fulfilling and meaningful.
Well who do you think pays your wages? Or builds your hositals, or research centers or endows the schools in your areas? Or funds the arts, and the food pantries? Based on the tone of your letter, you fail to realize that employees like you are a dime a dozen. You are not needed and can and are being replaced. Whether or not you work has no bearing on the wealth of this country. Come into the 21st century dg, companies will no longer be bullied by the unions. Right to work states are putting a squeeze on the stronghold the unions once held. Not all companies are leaving the country, just certain states. And the work is being accomplished at better production rates, higher quality and a better price.
dg, wow – you sound a little bitter there. So what if someone worked hard in their life and are now able to enjoy some well earned easier times? Do you have something against hard work, goals and priorities – - something peejz obviously has done in her life. Kudos to you to you peejz! A lot of hard work certainly does pay off.
Chill out, dg – - sounds like you’re about to pop a vein.
Take a look at the story of you and Chris, Lisa! Now that is taking advantage of the opportunities in this country. You both have relativly new businesses, and from your other blog, things seem to be doing well! Hectic at times? yes, but is it worth it? It sounds like it. Congratulations! You are using your talents and hard work and you are both successful in your own right, but together a great team!
Hey you read my other blog?
Just my little place to ramble about other things rather than politics, because, believe it or not – I do have other interests lol
Exactly, peejz! Chris has a successful biz and I’m just starting out working for myself and working out of my home and it’s wonderful! Economically I have to say that things have never been better than they have over the past 3-4 years – - and as a self employed business owner, I have to say that I fully appreciate Bush’s tax cuts!
Well, LisaS,
that’s what I’m trying to do. I’m putting my daughter through college, and when my son gets outta high school next year, I’ll start putting him through college.
There’s nothing wrong with working hard and planning your future.
Some have just forgotten where they came from — or were never there to begin with.
Workers build the products and buy the products, while the corporations reep big profits.
Greedy corporations are screwing workers, and gouging consumers.
I doubt anyone on this blog has THEIR name gracing a Chevron oil tanker.
It’s called capitalism, dg – - perhaps you’re familiar with it?
Good for you for working hard to put your kids through college! Your kids will be the better for it
I don’t know, dg – - if I ran a huge coporation, I would want to reap big profits, too – - that’s kind of the name of the game. Name me one business owner whose top priority isn’t making huge profits?
Nothing wrong with corporations making huge profits. Rather, it is the disparity between the coporate profits and the wages of their employees.
The same drive corporations have for obscene profits, is in the workers who want a peice of the pie they are helping to make.
When you consider the profits made by the International coporations and the wages paid to world wide workers, we have a lot of people making a lot of products that only a small percentage of whom can buy.
That number of worker-to-consumer ratio is shrinking proportionally to the quest of obscene corporate profits.
The entire Bush Administration is made up of lobbyists for big corporations or held positions on the boards of multiple corporations; i.e., Big banks, oil, pharmeceuticals, energy, etc.
Every single one of them!
Where do you think their interests lie?
dg- first of all there are lobbists on both sides of the aisle and they are from corporations as well. Mr. Daschles wife is a lobbist. Secondly, how much is a person without a college degree let alone a master’s to earn? Most of the big corporations have automated manufacturing systems. In the past 30 years, there has been a decrease in the amount of physical labor involved in jobs. So as technology advances, we ask less of an employee. Are these big corporations not paying matching 401K, or profit sharing, or health coverage?
What products are you referring to that the average consumer can not afford?
If you were hired in at $25,000/year, and at the end of the year you made that, have you not been paid what was promised?
If one of your kids decides to start their own business, and it is successful, are you going to insist that they pay everyone including themselves the exact same pay? Or will you insist that they pay the factory workers more than themselves, because it is the worker and not they that do all the work?
I wish your kids much success in college. Believe me! Maybe they will come home and sit you down and explain profit and loss to you:razz:
Ah, the gospel according to the Union Goon. I am so sick of such ignorance. Show me one profitable company a Union has owned and run using the tenets that dg espouses. There are none. The unions are dying because they contribute nothing but dissention, intimidation, and violence to the workplace.
Teamsters local 421 got voted down athe Eagle Window and Door 2 to 1. Instead of moving on, they file bogus claims to the NLRB to try to have the government force Eagle to be a closed Union shop. The local Teamsters are hurting financially. They need corporate profits to fund union goons and union officials who don’t work.
In Michigan, the unions are dying. The funny thing about the auto suppliers is the fact that the majority are non-union shops suppling the parts to the assembly plants that could no longer afford to make them in house due to the union demands. Many of the Union suppliers are closing their doors and moving to right to work states. I watched Federal Mogul ask the employees to take a $1.19/hr paycut (hourly emp) and massive white collar layoff, in order for the company to remain in business. The union said no, Federal said okay we shut the doors in a week, and lo and behold, the union members said wait a minute that’s not good, so there was a secret meeting without the Union herarchy, and the workers went to the company and accepted the deal unanimously. When you allow people to talk you out of a job, that is not a good thing!
Peejz,
Sounds like there is a union that needs to be decertified.
Exactly. The company oped all the books, this was no bluff. They needed to cut costs and that was the only option. So what good does a union do for a person when they tell them the can not work for 1.19/hr less(average $15.74/hr starting) and their only option is $0.0/hr.
Here’s a bit of news for you mental giants:
99% of all workers worlwide are non union and less than 5% can afford the products they make.
Can the 13 year old Thai girl afford the Calvin Kline clothes she manufactures 14 to 16 hours a day for pennies an hour?
An Army General’s salary is — on average — 52 times that of enlisted personel.
However, the average CEO salary is 400 to 600 times that of it’s employees.
The reason the unions became strong was due to the rape of workers by big corporations…
…just like the Corporate pigs are doing today!
Look at the label’s on the clothes you’re wearing. You’ll find evidence of slave labor. If it was made anywhere but the US, chances are the workers who made it cannot afford it!
Capitalism depends on consumers to keep the economy rollin’. But the number of consumers to workers continues to shrink.
Free Enterprise won’t be worth a shit when people can’t buy anything.
As far as lobbyists: Daschel’s wife lobbied for the Airline Industry. Can you name a bill Tom Daschel sponsored that benefited the Airlines?
There are hundreds of times Bush’s lobbyist staff benefit their former employers. Just look at the postions these coporate swine hold in Bush’s White House!
DG – it’s the frickin’ liberals who won’t let us racial profile! That’s why we are screening your grandma and infants at airports!
Oops, my last comment did not take, which was YAY ACLU!
(if you are too dumb to realize, i am being sarcastic). Example here in my state – the public libraries have recently banned porn on the internet. ACLU is going nuts. Are you kidding me? Get your porn at home!
Also, I only read the first few comments before I posted mine. After reading the last 15, I see we are on a different topic entirely.
Numerous times PRIOR TO 9/11, Bush was told we had terrorists in the US that were preparing to high-jack airliners.
Why did he not heed the warnings? Family members of the victims of 9/11 want to know the answer to that question.
Read the 9/11 report (which reads like a Michael Moore script without the humor).
Bush was absolutely clueless!
But Repubs walk lockstep with the slogan “the world is safer.”
Open your eyes!
And what was Clinton doing on his watch? Do you not recall any attacks during, um, his period? To busy getting BJs, I guess.
Actually, Einstein in 1998, Clinton bombed the shit out of al Qaeda terrorist camps in Afgahnistan, but people like YOU claimed he was just trying to divert our attention from Monica Lewenski.
After the USS Cole was attacked in October 2000, Bush was elected (sort of) by December
2000 and Clinton told him that al Qaeda had declared war on the US and that Usama bin Laden is our number one problem.
Bush’s own cabinet members warned him of highjackings, including members of his NSC and George Tennet!!
But Bush ignored it ALL!!!!
You really need to read the 9/11 Commission Report.
Your President is an idiot whose ignorance has already cost the lives of over 4000 Americans!
Keep sucking, you may be next!
Why don’t you move to France?
I’ve got it! You must work in the White House! You’ve personally transcribed these things as they happened?………..NO?….. Then you’re speculating. Clinton did do a real bangup job in Afganistan! If you don’t have boots on the ground who knows what you just killed. I guess after GWB kills all his supporters by sending us to war then you can run the country as sloppily as you want. I won’t be around to see it.
DG – i see you hate bush, may i ask, do you LIKE kerry? being serious here.
No. I don’t like Kerry. But I am smart enough to know that you do not vote for the man but for the party. And the party is supported mostly by people in the same position I am in — Working or wanting to work!
If I was voting for the man I would vote for Nader. He is right on every issue.
I know in your blinding ignorance you think you are voting for Bush, but what you are really voting for are greedy corporations and war-profiteers wearing a blue suit, currently occupying the Oval office!
You are not voting for the man, even if you think you are.
Back the truth trolley up dg…Clinton didn’t even look into the 1993 attack on WTC until 1995, he was busy with interns I guess. In 1995, investigators found that Usama Bin Laden had been in charge of the 1993 attack. But what did Bill do? Oh in your words inform Bush all about it..nice of you to toss the blame on someones’ shoulders there dg. You are correct though..Clinton did take action in 1998 against that ASPRIN factory, killing hundreds of innocent people..I’m sure that helped set the stage for all the hatred for Americans, and if it didn’t it sho didn’t help..but Yes I do point out that this attack was on the eve of the Monica Lewinsky trial…it’s very relevent.
U don’t like Kerry but like the Democratic Party? Didn’t your party decide on Kerry to be the DEM nominee this year?
dg – you almost sounded like a human in that last post.
i truly support bush. after sept 11, i was kicked out of my nyc job and forced to move in with family. i was unemployed for 8 months, actively searching for a job in an industry (service) that was, at the time, no longer wanted (management consulting). he extended unemployment benefits for extra months in 2002, something that was so helpful to me. i did get back on track. although, i moved from accenture to deloitte and soon realized (after 6 years) that those sweatshops were NOT for me. i just changed to a small consultancy, under 10 people, and the difference is amazing. however, kerry’s tax increases would REALLY hurt this small, family owned business. so please don’t tell me i don’t think about anything besides defense and terrorism. i am smart enough to know that tax BREAKS help the economy – i sure as hell would be spending and saving with that extra money.
AND DG, DO THE RIGHT THING AND VOTE FOR NADER!
Why don’t YOU do the right thing, and read the 9/11 Commission Report and then come back here and tell us “how much safer we are”!
Bush was ignorant to all the warnings he recieved. Hell, HE WAS ON VACATION when he recieved the 8/6/01 PDB: Usama bin Laden Determined to Strike in US.
No wonder you’re voting for Bush. Ignorance begets ignorance!
http://www.911independentcommission.org/
OK, and I am so turned on by all the Kerry windsurfing pictures. Stop turning us to the 9/11 report, please. I am trying to tell you that there is a lot more to it than that.
by the way, are you suggesting that we would not have been attacked had gore been in office? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL – let me go enjoy my sunday and watch some football.
No.
You want to spew the Bush lie that we are safer, when the 9/11 Commission Report clearly points out that BusH did not heed the warnings.
9/11 could have been prevented, but Bush ignored the warnings. Instead, Bush promotes the ones who failed him most and ousted the ones who gave him the warnings.
Read the report! It vindicates Michael Moore.
nothing could vindicate michael moore except burger king.
hey guys, we may be winning in the pop vote- but from what i have seen, the electoral is looking Skeery. can anyone shed some light?
For the first time, the chairman of the independent commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks is saying publicly that 9/11 could have and should have been prevented.
“This is a very, very important part of history and we’ve got to tell it right,” said Thomas Kean.
“As you read the report, you’re going to have a pretty clear idea what wasn’t done and what should have been done,” he said. “This was not something that had to happen.”
Appointed by the Bush administration, Kean, a former Republican governor of New Jersey, is now pointing fingers inside the administration and laying blame.
“There are people that, if I was doing the job, would certainly not be in the position they were in at that time because they failed. They simply failed,” Kean said.
I read the 9/11 report including all of the referenced points and I did not read the same thing you did dg. I also listened to the interviews, and no where have they said or written that this is Bush’s fault. Of course it should have not happened. No kidding Einstein!
