Cameron Diaz sounded off during Wednesday’s “Voting Party” on the Oprah Winfrey TV show about why, exactly, women should vote.
She said: “We have a voice now, and we’re not using it, and women have so much to lose. I mean, we could lose the right to our bodies. . . . If you think that rape should be legal, then don’t vote. But if you think that you have a right to your body, and you have a right to say what happens to you and fight off that danger of losing that, then you should vote.”
Huh?
My first thought was to wonder how I missed them sneaking in the legalize rape proposition. My second thought was, ok, that’s an odd way of putting it, but by voting for the candidate who I think will be best at fighting terrorism, I am voting to protect women…although it’s mainly to protect women in Afghanistan and Iraq from abuse by Islamic terrorists.
I think the quote from Christina Aguileras that makes me shake my head the most was one I heard on Entertainment Tonight last night (shortly before popping in a videotape, I might add), where she declared that “more people voted for American Idol than in the last election.” There’s a motivation speech that I think falls into the “Huh?”-category, and while I realize it’s entirely possible that she was taken out of context, I still find myself wondering if she is aware just how odd and less-than-intellectual that made her sound.
As for the rape-comment, well, geez, we still have incidents such as the Laci Peterson trial and, more recently, the woman in Utah who reportedly was murdered by her husband and whose body is being searched. We also have the Kobi Bryant case having a major influence on rape reports, sending a very clear message to women: “Before you cry rape, make darn sure it’s actually a rape, and be prepared for the fact that your sexual history will be held under more scrutiny than your attacker, because of course your attacker has more rights than you do.” I think this is an incredibly mixed message to send to women, and I find it interesting that the same media who has supported Kobi all this time with little if any regard for the victim is now turning around and declaring that women should vote if they are concerned about rape.
Personally, it makes me wonder just how much difference it would make at this point. JMO, of course…
Anyone who would legalize rape is out of their minds but then kerry would prevent the same women from being able to defend themselves from rapist by joining up with chapaquedic ted(kennedy) diane(not so)feinstein)and charles(Chucky)shcumer and the rest of the gun control league of scoundrels i mean these persons are the real FREIGHTFUL FOUR
I think she was trying to say that If President Bush is reelected; Abortion will become illegal thus causing women to lose control of their body, kind of like rape.
Personally, I don’t care what any celebrities think. They are famous for being attractive/good actors; not for being educated or intelligent.
If only she had not opened her mouth, stupidity would not have fallen out.
Gee, I had no idea Bush was a rape supporter:shock:
Since when was insisting that women protect their unborn children a form of rape?
If anything, couldn’t it easily be said that many forms of abortion themselves count as rape, at the risk of getting gross here?
Well i always find it funny when they talk about rights to your body when i see little work on the whole drug issue from NOW, should they not be fighting for the right to put drugs in one’s body?
we have all kinds of laws about what you can do but the left only care when it’s killing a baby it seems, if they would give even a fraction of time and money to helping the babies instead of trying to kill them….
That god she makes $20 Mill for her looks and not her brains!
All right now, whoever took her brain give it back now.
Thanks to my boyfriend, I think we figured this one out. Bush thinks abortion should be legal only in select cases of rape. Therefore, Ms. Ex-Boyfriend of Mr. Timberlake meant that if you want control of your body (abortion rights), you would need to be raped. I think? Something like that? Not the most logical of thinking…to say the least. I read that she actually cried during this segment.
Hey Cameron, Anna Nicole Smith called, she wants her soundbite back.
