Stolen Honor

TV Group to Show Anti- Kerry Film on 62 Stations

Up to 62 television stations owned or managed by the Sinclair Broadcasting Group – many of them in swing states – will show a documentary highly critical of Senator John Kerry’s antiwar activities 30 years ago within the next two weeks, Sinclair officials said yesterday.

Those officials said the documentary would pre-empt regular night programming, including prime time, on its stations, which include affiliates for all six of the major broadcast networks in the swing states of Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Nevada and Pennsylvania.

Called “Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal,” the documentary features Vietnam veterans who say their Vietnamese captors used Mr. Kerry’s 1971 Senate testimony, in which he recounted stories of American atrocities, prolonging their torture and betraying and demoralizing them. Similar claims were made by prisoners of war in a commercial that ran during the summer from an anti-Kerry veterans group, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Two of the former prisoners who appeared in the Swift Boat advertisement were interviewed for the movie, including Ken Cordier, who had to resign as a volunteer in the Bush campaign after the advertisement came out.

Sinclair’s plan to show the documentary was first made public by The Los Angeles Times on Saturday.

Mark Hyman, Sinclair’s vice president for corporate relations, who doubles as a conservative commentator on its news stations, said the film would be shown because Sinclair deemed it newsworthy.

Camp Kerry has been contacted to see if John Kerry wanted to respond to the documentary after it airs. This would give him “equal time” – - He declined.

For those who do not reside in one of the areas mentioned in the article – - no worries because you can view the documentary for a small fee via online.

UPDATE: The DNC will file a complaint against Sinclair Broadcasting with the FEC stating “illegal in-kind contribution to the Bush-Cheney campaign.” This is ridiculous.

  1. Stolen valor sounds like something that will be very damaging to con con kerry and his goon squad this is a man who called his fellow GIs war crinimals and who met with hanoi jane(fonda)and is a confirmed socialist he is supported by all those hollywood socialists and the various left-wing special interest groups and rich socialist GEORGE SOROS whe should be deported kerry is more akin to hitler:eek:

  2. Of course, it is okay to show Moore’s film the night before the elections.

    http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/10/9/211257.shtml

  3. I hate that Michael Moore. Whish the big fat slob would up and die already. I had a dream last night that I was at some rally and John Kerry came up to me and asked if I’ve ever had an MRI. Now what could THAT mean?

  4. It may be 30+ years ago but it sure speaks to his character…

  5. K;

Perhaps you’re in love with Senator Kerry. Does your boyfriend know?

  6. LOL, Z, I think he’s pretty sure that isn’t the case. Maybe the MRI thing was getting to how see through Kerry is?

But I’d prefer that he stay out of my dreams, thanks.

  7. I hope they do show Moore’s film the night before the election.

    That’d be perfect.

If it’s all lies, what are you worried about? It isn’t anymore hype than when Bush landed on an Airdraft carrier and said “Major combat operations in Iraq have ended!”

  8. I have no faith in the American public, that’s what I am worried about.

  9. I agree with you, K.

When not one thing Bush has said about the war in Iraq has played out, half the voters are still going to vote for him!

    Insane.

  10. Comparing the black propaganda piece “Fahrenheit 9/11″ that attacks Bush to Bush landing on an Aircraft Carrier is the mark of idiocy. They are not in the same category of activities. No wonder the rest of us see the left as a bunch of ideeits.

  11. What was the purpose of Bush landing on an aircraft carrier? That wasn’t hype? And he lied on top of it — major combat is still going on!

As far as F9/11: The truth is a painful thing!

  12. Let me get this straight: it’s “illegal” to show a film critical of Kerry, but it’s perfectly all right to show a film such as F-911 ad infinitum?

This is so wrong and so one-sided it’s not even funny. Anyone who takes this tact has no right to critique the likes of Fox News as far as I’m concerned, not unless they actually allow the Kerry-critics the equal time of Bush-critics.

  13. 12 — Which would explain why such pains are being taken against the Swiftboat Vets to quiet them, wouldn’t you say? To keep the truth from getting out?

DG, is your personal idea of the truth really that one-sided? If so, then I am happy in advance that you will never again critique me for being closed-minded until you work on your own closed-mindedness.

Oh, silly me — I forgot. I’m dealing with a lib who, in the grand tradition of libs, and as this article indicates, prefers one-sided propoganda to that which is fair and balanced, ironically referring to that as “biased.”

  14. So, AG, I take it you think Bush’s Carrier landing was hype, too?

Tell me, AG — have major combat operations ended in Iraq?

  15. That you are allowed to vote is insane dg!

  16. Damn, makes me wish I lived in a swing state instead of IL.

  17. 15 — Where in my posts did I say anything about Bush’s landing on the aircraft carrier? I saw absolutely nothing about that topic that has any bearing whatsoever with what we are talking, aside from leading down one of your usual bunny trails…

  18. Zelda: “30+ years ago.”
Yeah, Zelda, just like Kerry’s Vietnam service, you know, the “I served in Vietnam (30 years ago), elect me President” stuff.

  19. jpg;

Exactly! I don’t care about his 4 months of service 30 years ago. How on Earth could 4 months of driving a boat up and down a river shooting people 30 years ago make someone qualified to lead this Nation?

  20. Well for 1 it could be a matter of whether or not is is legal for the man to hold the office.

  21. I severely dislocated my wrist helping my dad in and out of my car taking him to lunch so that we didn’t eat at the veterans home he lives in. I suppose if I were Kerry, I’d be writing myself up for a PH, a Silver Star, and a Congressional Medal of Honor.

Kerry’s lack of character and integrity demonstrated from 30+ years ago through today does matter. His Vietnam record give basis for his delusion that terrorism is only a nuisance.

  22. That becuase the demacrats are all socialists and are no different the joeseph stalin in fact theres a lot that the dems have in common with the reds they oppose a film that is criticle of the would be dictator like kerry and moore is just your avrage socialist propeganda maker:grin:

  23. Snowy Egret;

(Democrats are all socialists and are no different than Joseph Stalin)

Um, I think maybe, just maybe, you’re going a little bit overboard there.

  24. Sinclair TV group ordered it’s ABC stations not to air Nightline when it read the names of the American soldiers who died in Iraq. they complained it was political editorializing masking as news.

there are some really subtle rationales floating around now explaining why they’re not ingaged in the same activity with this show on Kerry.

i think Fox news and the Washington Times coupled and gave birth to the Sinclair Group.

  25. Let me guess who your source for that claim is, Shiloh. ABC, by any chance?

If it is, that only fits in with my “Dracula’s running the bloodbank”-theory.

  26. AG – if you’re referring to why Sinclair Group ordered its ABC stations not to air Nightline that night – my source is the Sinclair Group.

    otherwise, i don’t #26

    best

  27. I think you’re confusing viewership sensitivity with outright censorship. I seem to vaguely recall that certain ABC affiliates, mine included, made a choice not to air that particular episode. I don’t recall any foaming at the mouth, any lawsuit threats — just simple decisions whether or not to air the controversial material.

That’s a little different from the tactics being used by the left here.

  28. to remove vaugeness from memory:

Sinclair Group bans affiliates from airing Nightline

    bans

  29. 29 — I’ll remember this the next time papers like USA Today ban the likes of Ann Coulter, yet publish the likes of Michael Moore and give him all sorts of free press.

But of course, you don’t have any problem with that because, hey, Ann Coulter is “a divider, not a uniter.” Whatever the heck that means, with regards to your definition of a “uniter” — I imagine your idea of “uniting” would be similar to the idea that Neville Chamberlin had when he decided to compromise with the Germans. Yup, England was so “united” after that little stunt that the country came dangerously close to speaking German!!!

Getting back to the point, our side is initially guilty of censorship, so I’d call it a bit of “evening out,” if you will. I’m also reminded of that old phrase “What goes around comes around.”

  30. the editor of USA Today is the former head of a group that advocated for the first ammendment.(for everyone) if you have questions as to why he dropped Coulter (if they’re not obvious) contact him and ask why.

  31. from the article shiloh:

Because Sinclair is defining the documentary – which will run commercial free – as news, it is unclear if it will be required by federal regulations to provide Mr. Kerry’s campaign with equal time to respond.

But acknowledging that news standards call for fairness, Mr. Hyman said an invitation has been extended to Mr. Kerry to respond after the documentary is shown. “There are certainly serious allegations that are leveled; we would very much like to get his response,” he said.

Aides to Mr. Kerry said he would not accept Sinclair’s invitation.

“It’s hard to take an offer seriously from a group that is hellbent on doing anything to help elect President Bush even if that means violating basic journalism standards,” said Chad Clanton, a Kerry spokesman.

violating standards!! who the hell is he trying to fool?

  32. You liberals have got to be kidding me when you complain about media bias in the favor of the right. You’re like whiney little babies in need of a diaper change anytime something doesn’t go in your favor. You had every paper in the country giving double-chin Moore coverage about his movie, which is proven to be full of lies, but yet the Swift boat vets (Hero’s who served their county) can barley find coverage outside the conservative circle. And you know, if the swift boat vets were talking negatively about Bush, it would be all over the mainstream media. Hell, CBS will air forged documents with absolutely no credibility, but won’t even interview REAL veterans who have FIRST HAND experience with Senator Kerry. Don’t even get me started on all the coverage the anti-bush Hollywood crowd receives.
Another real world example of who’s got the advantage, just do a random poll of people off the street. Ask them who their voting for and why. A disturbing percentage of those who pick Kerry know relatively nothing about either candidate. All they know is what they see on the news, and the majority of it makes Kerry look good and Bush look bad. The fact is, Kerry has got the majority of the uneducated lemmings of this society on his side, thanks to the biased mainstream media. Thankfully, many of them don’t vote.
Thank God for the power of the internet, talk radio, and other news outlets (Fox News) that give us a voice. Oh, and as you know, unlike the availability of mainstream media to conservatives, all of the above mentioned news outlets are just as available to the liberals.

  33. editorializing in the guise of news is an old practice that everyone has used. it’s bound to get more attention in the glare of this moment.

in an emotional time, we should take a step back, lest we let the emotion cloud our reason and rue the day later. witness some portions of the Patriot Act as case in point.

fervor is fine, as long as the basis of it is based on objective understanding.

Sinclair Group know this isn’t news. it’s an editorial. it is what it is, and the attention it’s getting will out it as just that. people areen’t stupid and i only hope it will get Instant Karma and backfire on these folks.

    journalism indeed.

  34. re: the Sinclair Group plans to broadcast the propaganda film, “Stolen Honor”-

they are calling it news and say they have a first amendment right to air it.
while they probably do it’s still not a good idea. by the way, where was the public’s right to view the Nightline program that read the names of the American military dead, which Sinclair BANNED from airing on its affiliates ‘cause it had no ‘other side’ of the issue. they thought of the dead soldiers as political and anti-Bush. explain that to me. will this be a balanced report with folks saying Kerry is not a traitor & did not cause torture to be done upon his fellow soldiers. do you think they’ll include a “fair & balanced’ look?

when media conglomerates decide what we can and cannot view, eventually licenses will be granted on some kind of tit for tat understanding. where is the public interest then?

I know it kind of goes with the administrations claim that criticizing them helps our enemies and hurts our soldiers – but that attempt to stifle dissent is to blatant to give any regard to at all. like Ari Fleisher said after 9/11, Americans better “watch what they say”.
fuck him and the whole crowd that wants it like that. that’s something, but it certainly is NOT the America I want, nor one I will accept.

if CBS forced it’s stations to air Farenheit 911, the rage would be palpable, emanating through the computer screen.

  35. shiloh, they gave kerry the option to put his view on, and he declined.

  36. with all due respect, K. that’s not the point i was trying to make. thereis still the issue of censorchip and using the public air in a partisan way. i object to this as one of the owners

    of the air up there.

    best

  37. you asked, “will this be a balanced report with folks saying Kerry is not a traitor & did not cause torture to be done upon his fellow soldiers. do you think they’ll include a “fair & balanced’ look?” – Kerry has the opportunity.

    and they couldn’t put f9/11 on, it’s rated r.

however, i hear one teacher showed it in a classroom in the past week. s/he should be fired.

  38. K – would you like to address the censorship regarding the Nightline incident? would you like to address why Sinclair orders it’s affiliates to have Mr Hyman’s (spokesman & talkin’ head) partisan editorials run on its stations?
if want state sponsered television, all it takes is for good people to do nothing. that’s how facism takes hold. step by step. stone by stone. suddenly, oops, you’re there.

  39. i keep forgetting to change the name on the other computer – i am billybob…just to be straight.
    signed, shiloh

  40. media conglomerates DO decide what we do and do not view. i had the 60 minutes forged documents show shoved down my throat…i didn’t need to see that…the public airwaves are partisan and biased. we chose what to watch and what not to watch. and take most of it with a grain of salt.

  41. K there is a line on the public airwaves one cannot cross. if the FCC were concerned about the pereversion of the license agreement that Sinclair is engaged in and less concerned with Janet Jackson breast the public would be better served.

what you said is what i mean. all it takes is for people to say, ‘they all do it’, do nothing about it and keep eating the grains of salt, till you retain so much, you bust.

  42. This is the way Machiavelli, the cynical Florentine philosopher of politics and power, put it in “The Prince” in 1513:

“Everyone sees what you seem to be, few perceive what you are; and those few don’t dare oppose the general opinion, which has the majesty of the government backing it up. … The masses are always impressed by appearances and by the outcome of an event — and in the world there are only masses. The few have no place there when the many crowd together.”

    have a nice weekend. g’nite.

  43. They should have a reading of drowning victims from 2001 if they want to read names of senseless deaths, there are more accidental drowning deaths in recreational settings in 2001 than there were US terrorist victim deaths.

Why not give out the truth on drowning? It’s combatted by prevention, because treatment after the fact is largely ineffective, according to the CDC. Remind you of any other problems the nation faces?

  44. THE REALLY IDIOTIC ONES HERE ARE MOST OF THE NEWS MEDIA AND THE STUPID QUESTIONS THEY POSE. WHY WOULD ANY COMMANDER IN CHIEF STAND BEFORE A LIVE TV AND STATE HIS PLANS FOR ENDING A WAR OR FIGHTING A SPECIFIC ENEMY… IT IS JUST ONE WEEK BEFORE ELECTION AND STILL THEY ASK THE SAME SILLY QUESTIONS. JUST FINISHED THE KERRY STOLEN HONOR MOVIE – IT’S A SHAME THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE TO BE DENIED SEEING IT – IT SURE SHEDS A LIGHT ON OUR 2004 MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE… D:mad::mad:

  45. D -

your arguement would be more valid if the Amercican people are being ‘denied’ achance to see it. it’s not available to the public. hell, they could have released in the theatres. they can give it away on street corners (’cause that’s about what it’s worth).

you’re problem is that some have a problem airing it on the public airwaves and calling it news, isn’t it?

    tough.
