U.S. Holiday Shopping Starts with $8 Billion Day
Americans spent more in stores at the start of holiday shopping than a year ago, according to figures released on Saturday, but retailers’ hopes for the key season were curbed as titan Wal-Mart cut its November sales forecast.
Black Friday used to be the biggest shopping day of the year, but now it competes with the Saturday before Christmas for top sales. Black Friday was the biggest shopping day in 2003.
Early sales data from analyst ShopperTrak showed Black Friday sales rose 10.8 percent from a year ago to $8 billion, while Visa USA said spending on its cards rose 15.5 percent to $4.1 billion with sales up but plastic also more widely used.
Even with Wal-Mart lowering their expectations record numbers of shoppers were out on Friday. They spent over eight billion dollars which says a lot about the economy and consumers. With Black Friday having been good I think the economists may be right about this holiday season being strong which is great after such a weak summer.

evening TAC
I am telling you, Shiloh, that we have no problem getting rid of the segerationist language in the state constitution. I haven’t met anybody yet. The people of this state, want to a. “to ensure that reckless trial lawyers and activist judges will not be able to open the floodgates to increase taxes and that private, Christian, parochial and home-school families will be protected.” b. the constitution needs to,,, ahhhh, I hate to say this, but needs to be rewritten…”Alabama’s constitution now has 743 amendments (including amendments dealing with bingo, mosquito control, catfish, soybeans, dead farm animals, beaver tails, and prostitution), while the national average is 116. The constitution itself is easily the longest in the nation and is 12 times longer than the typical state constitution.â€
If the Amendment had been voted on as written originally, it would have passed overwhelmingly.
That settled, lets talk about Roy More. He is very, very popular here. I am suprised about how you feel about him, but I know you must hold you liberal belifs first. He is a good man, who stood on his principles. He is an sincere Christian and I will support him. He may be the Boogey man to liberals…..,,,, but, liberals couldn’t win in the south even if I was running against them.
Hell, if yall don’t like us, the dems can have those few little blue counties…hell I’ll give ya the states. I will support you. Seperate. Just don’t rely on the success of the productive society to bail your heathen nation out when thins fall apart… like the soviets.
TAC – i would like to believe that the tax issue was the reason for #2′s defeat, but i don’t.
except for the folks who voted against it, i’d be suprised if many other peple did, either.
i’m not saying they’re all racists, don’t get me wrong. i think racism has dressed itself up in a respectable wardrobe and is much more subtle and discreet than when it wore white sheets and did it’s murderous business.
the excuse you gave for Tom Parker was, ‘these things happen down here’. but, good God man, he was elected to the Supreme Court.
that’s certainly a symbol of something.
when you talk about ‘not liking us’…now don’t get goofy on me. we’re talking about individuals – sure they represent a portion of the population but nothing is black and white (no pun intended.
Moore must have backslid when he committed those things i mentioned in 99. if he’s back on the Path, God bless him. like the old Russian proverb says, ‘trust – but verify’.
he’s a bit of a whack job IMO.
To clarify on Parker. It was a sons of confederate vetrans meeting, not a klan rally. There are people in this state genuinelly interested in local history. I, for one, do not understand why people “hate” anything to do with the confedeacay. My black friends don’t care about the F’in flag. Only liberal butting in on local issues. I mean I bet over 50% of blacks here want people like the rhyming reverand jesse jackson to keep his ass away from here.
the little research i did on this Parker fellow went into more detail than a vets meeting where he handed out some flags. he seems a little more contoversial than that, to me.
I can empathise with you about the “nutjob” comment. Believe me, I have seen them. But, I believe that Moore (ROY), gotta be careful, really was standing up for GOD and refused to back down to the medding ACLU, which is an Anit-Christian organization now. He lost his position due to his stance, but I think he will gain the Govonership.
Now, if he was not honestly standing up or what he thought was right, I hope he looses. If the man went down doing the right thing,,, well God bless him.
Parker…. proof
Not opinions from looney LW sites or “anniston-star”. I was actually ashamed to be their front page pic.
we’re gonna have a bit of fun now.
1. why is the ACLU anti-Christian rather than pro Bill of Rights?
2. what source will you accept as valid? i guess the ACLU website is out.
How many time has the “ACLLU” been on the side of Christians in the last 5 years?
congress shall make no law respecting the establisment of religon, nor prohit the free exercise thereof.
This bold comment above, Shiloh, is probably where our definition of “against Christanity” will differ. Just a guess.
I trust an ACLLU refrence like I would a CPUSA.
102. didn’t see…. evening to you sir. See we can debate respectfully.
here’s some of what i found in the lst 5 minutes….Parker, received $150,000 during the June primary campaign from political action committees funded almost entirely by plaintiff trial lawyers.
He fought against the teaching of humanism and Darwinism in school textbooks while in private practice while fighting for school prayer. —Birmingham News
Moore posed for pictures after sitting on the stage in an Indianapolis Baptsit church while the preacher said,
“the Bible teaches that whites are superior to blacks and that he thinks “God uses the white race as leaders.” He said he was not a racist but a segregationist. He also said the Oklahoma City bombing was “God’s payback” for the deadly fire at the Branch Davidian religious compound in Waco, Texas.
once again, the ACLU is not in business to be on anyone’s side.
they exist to make sure the Bill of Rights is enforced.
all they can do is tell their side to the courts and the courts decide if they have a case or not.
they went to bat for Rush Limbo in trying to protect his medical records. they fought for the nazi’s right to march in Skokie. they don’t care if you’re a saint or a nazi. the Constitution is their priority.
Comment 1 Shiloh, so what. 2. if the libs don’t want us teaching Creation and mentioning God, well lets drop all the other stuff. Good.
The other information…. again, source please. This guy effects my life…possibly in the future, and I don’t want sum asshole running my state…
Its there interpetation of the Constitution that they fight for (ACLU). That is it.
would you rather John Ashcroft be tasked to defend the constitutional rights of American citizens?
i don’t understand why y’all have such hysteria about the ACLU. i’m a member and i’m suprised that none of you are.
keep religion out of it and think of the Bill of Rights. freedom of speech and assemnly is not a religious principle. neither is the 5th ammendment.
the 14th maybe, but you know what i mean./
120 – if their beliefs are wrong, and some are – the courts are there to deal at that point. i’d rather have them over-zealous than be afflicted with apathy.
cops always have the right man and a little beating will help get a confession. the authorities want to search my house without a warant? some say, if you’ve got nothing to hide, why not?
it’s the ‘why not’ philosophy than the ACLU protects us from. protects even those who don’t want to be protected for the sake of those who do.
122.
First para… I understand what you are saying about “balance”.
Second para… Stupid. We both know that is wrong and will never fly.
Third para… I am unconvinced. They are always against prayer, against Christians, for Muslims, and for the abolishing of anything that has to do with GOD. I do believe they did good things in the past,,, but like the NAACP, its has gone over the deep end.
