Osama Says: Boycott Iraq Vote

Purported Bin Laden Tape Calls for Boycott

In an audiotape broadcast Monday by Al-Jazeera satellite television, a man purported to be Osama bin Laden endorsed Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi as his deputy in Iraq and called for a boycott of next month’s elections there.

The new tape, together with one that appeared online earlier this month, continues a new political slant adopted by the al-Qaida leader, whose past proclamations have been more a call to arms than a promotion of a cause. They appear to back up recent suggestions by Middle East experts that bin Laden may be trying to become more of a political leader than a terrorist.

The speaker on the tape condemned the Jan 30th Iraqi elections. “In the balance of Islam, this constitution is infidel and therefore everyone who participates in this election will be considered infidels,” he said. “Beware of henchmen who speak in the name of Islamic parties and groups who urge people to participate in this blatant apostasy.”

Some believe Osama is trying to make the move from terrorist to politician – - yet he is stating that those who take part in the election process are infidels and we all know what he and his group of murderers do to those they consider to be infidels. Once a terrorist…

I don’t buy the fact that he is going from terrorist to statesman.

The largest Sunni coalition pulled out of the election yesterday, citing security concerns and unfair registration. The US and the Iraqi Interim government better be preparing for a distaster and to answer questions of what constitutes a ‘fair election’.

6 – Do you think he’s that effective anymore?

A serious question. I am not being sarcastic – man, that’s hard to show over the internet.

I just don’t know. I guess it depends on what the average Islamic radical thinks about him.

Either way though, I think it would be great if we could catch him.
