Pentagon: Rumsfeld misspoke on Flight 93 crash

In the speech, Rumsfeld made a passing reference to United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to stop al Qaeda hijackers.

But in his remarks, Rumsfeld referred to the “the people who attacked the United States in New York, shot down the plane over Pennsylvania.”

A Pentagon spokesman insisted that Rumsfeld simply misspoke, but Internet conspiracy theorists seized on the reference to the plane having been shot down.

“Was it a slip of the tongue? Was it an error? Or was it the truth, finally being dropped on the public more than three years after the tragedy” asked a posting on the Web site WorldNetDaily.com.

Get your tinfoil hats on with this one. And watch out for those black helicopters on your way to the fall-out shelter.

    Oh for pete’s sake …
Why the HELL did Rummy have to feed the moonbats? Jeez. We’re NEVER gonna hear the end of this one. A comment Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made during a Christmas Eve address to U.S. troops in Baghdad has sparked new…

And Elvis and Diana were probably on that flight as well.

These people do want to be taken seriously four years from now, right?

Ok, so does anyone here believe that? I seem to know a lot of people who think that.

Now the TWA flight, I tend to believe…

    3,
Sasha, come on. “These people want to be taken seriously in four years”? Are you assuming that all of these 911 conspiracy theorists are on the left? The 911 theories may be laughable, but they are from the entire political spectrum, and should be taken as seriously as a lot of the conspiracy theories that get a lot of play on this site (Clinton as a murderer, etc).
Wow, I like the spell check.

My brother in law is a hard core republican, and thinks the plane was shot down.

Now this, though, is seriously ridiculous…

Sandyb, how you come at me is how I come at you.

    You misquoted me.

    You misrepresented me.

You expect me to take you seriously when you do that?

The spell check is cool, isn’t it?

You’re projecting whatever you’re feeling or thinking onto my comment. You may be thinking the conspiracy theorists on the left are shrieking in full voice, and want to pounce on my comment to mitigate the credibility gap they’re creating, but you should have noticed I made no distinction in the political leanings of the theorists. The fact of the matter is that the big chair is up for grabs in ‘08, and all would do well to show some discretion.

    9,
Not only discretion, but sense and critical reception of ideas. I saw your comment as a dialogue with commonfolk’s ridiculous assertion. I did misquote you, but it doesn’t change the meaning of the sentence.

sometimes it seems only folks with a weak defense argues what the meaning of is, is.

we get quite literal when we’re on the ropes.

    You assumed incorrectly.

ctrl-c ctrl-v is a good way to avoid this in the future.

And since you say it changes nothing, that would mean you’re still wrong. About what I wrote, and what you thought I meant when I wrote it.

You know the thing about it is, these so called theorists have no logic behind their thought…you know the stuff we learned in elem.school…who.. what ,when where,or why? how? I think it is a sad injustice to the families of those who died in that tragedy…to continue such nonsense.

    and to what extent!

especially since al queda claimed responsiblity. one of the sites said that we never knew the hyjackers were actually muslim – that the phone calls from the plane would “definitely have said that.”

    uh, flight lists?
