It’s Time to De-Fund the UN

Just when you think taxpayers have been soaked enough

Another ridiculous idea from Washington. They are talking about sticking the taxpayers with a loan or a loan guarantee for the United Nations to build a new headquarters for a cool $1.3 billion.

Most Americans would rather kick them out!

The United Nations has its hand out, seeking a complete renovation and expansion of its facilities in New York City, and they want the United States to provide the loan or loan guarantee to pay for it all. Worse yet, the only debate in Washington seems to be whether the loan has a low interest rate or no interest at all.

The UN’s current facilities are crumbling and in violation of building, health and safety codes. If it were a private business, it would have been closed long ago. Someone recently proposed turning the building over to Donald Trump – he would turn it into moneymaking condos in no time.

Enough is enough – - the citizens of the United States have paid billions of dollars to the United Nations and the amount continues to grow with each passing day. Why does the United Nations have to have a new building in New York City or anywhere in the United States? Why not move to Paris or some place else?

I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before the United Nations starts to call us stingy about this too and demands the tax increase so they can have their new building.

With all the controversy surrounding the United Nations I think it should be considered if the organization even needs to exist – - and they should just forget about new digs. It’s time to evict them.

The UN made money interest free from the oil for food. Take the money from that fund. Or find a new place to build.
I would kick them to the curb.

They definitely need to go – - why Washington is even considering doing anything about their new digs is beyond me. Kick’em Out!

It’s almost like having someone come into your house and smack you. And then you give them the big bedroom and the keys to the car.

    I don’t get it.

I read the article where Mr. Egeland of the UN said we were stingy with our money. That we, the taxpayers, want to be taxed more to support the UN. I think we should write our Congressmen and women that not another penny to the UN until the UN sends Mr. Egeland packing.

The UN is an ill-mannered, arrogant, and greedy guest that has outstayed their welcome. Let them set up in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan or other hot spots where they can prove themselves worthy of our support, troops, and money.

 I go with the “Corleon” strategy. Keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer. We should stay with the UN. But… we should defund them. Agree to pay only as much as the average that France, Germany and Spain pay. After all these are nations equal to the US in all respects, Right?

I agree. The UN should leave the US’ soil. I mean, the UN was designed for countries that accept to play a democratic role in the world. Since the US seems to want to play by its own rules (attacking Iraq whatever the United Nations decide), it should be kept out of any UN decision until it changes its attitude.
I agree that the UN is not perfectly democratic : countries like France or the US have way to much power. But the UN is way way more democratic than the US and a few other nations deciding all by themselves that they have the right (or even worse : the duty) to attack a country because they feel like it.
