Like many of you I have watched the endless news stories about the horrific loss of life and cannot even begin to grasp the idea of how many have died.

thanks for the links. i’ll give as much as i can. this is so random. it’s of biblical proportions. perhaps the second coming is near.
I’ve given to the Red Cross, and still I feel useless. There is no way to put that number of deaths in any amount of perspective.
My coworkers and I were talking about what it would be liked to get sucked into the ocean. Is it a quick death? Or painful? Horrible.
This is wild.
2 – that’s a really good description of how i feel. there’s never enough of whatever is needed and life is a veil of tears sometimes.
People will sit and talk. A few will even donate monetarily, but even fewer still will actually go and lend a hand. That dedicated bunch deserves a beer and a pat on the back when you see them in a bar months from now.
I was watching the news tonight, and their was an Australian woman who was caught in the wave with both of her children. As the wave pulled her under she had to choose between her 5yr old son or her 2 yr old son. She let go of the oldest… then an older woman nearby had caught the boy and held on as long as possible but had to let go as she was being pulled under, that woman had to watch her boy be whisked away from her not knowing his fate…but by the grace of God he was was swept into a doorway and hung on for dear life. They found him 2 hrs later and he was OK. I could not even fathom the idea of what she had to go through as a mother of 4, I hope I never will. The pain in face as she told this story just brought me to tears. They are heading home now …my prayers are with all those over seas.
2 & 5: 25 million or so Europeans alone died from the Plague, if that helps put things in perspective, but it’s a bit different when something like this happens in your own time. But if you inflate the numbers to correspond with today’s population.
3- Not quick, but scary! Unless you get knocked out, you fight for life and know death is near.
Its a really sad time and a sad thing to start the new year, I am giving has much has I can but has a few of you said, it feels useless but atleast we doing something.
