‘Undermining UN with Aid Coalition’

President Bush ‘Undermining UN with Aid Coalition’

President Bush was tonight accused of trying to undermine the United Nations by setting up a rival coalition to coordinate relief following the Asian tsunami disaster. The president has announced that the US, Japan, India and Australia would coordinate the world’s response.

But former International Development Secretary Clare Short said that role should be left to the UN. “I think this initiative from America to set up four countries claiming to coordinate sounds like yet another attempt to undermine the UN when it is the best system we have got and the one that needs building up,” she said.

The poor United Nations needs building up – - well nanny nanny boo boo.

Instead of wanting everyone to do everything they can to help the millions in need the United Nations would rather whine that they want to be in charge it – - Guess they don’t understand the concept of more being better.

  1. I think I’m going to bounce. I can’t stop yawning.

I’ll be back on later today or Sunday.

    ‘Nite!

  2. nite sasha, listening now.
Julian Perez…. Music is different than 14 years ago though..

Shiloh, thanks for the contact… I will call Sandy if I ever get the urge.

    Good nite yall.

  3. We know that despite what the crack-pots are saying and what we,ve been told by the liberal news media and the proveres of junk science evolution never happened i mean NATIONAL GEOGRAPHICs been spreading lies these last few years i mean no matter the kind of rediclous evedence they come up with and the numbers of fossels the finds and models designed paleitologists and anthropoligists they can never prove evoltion ever happened EVOLTION IS JUNK SCIENCE:razz:

  4. That can’t be good. You weren’t perhaps “overserved” in the last 18 hours, were you, Lee?

  5. Actually the groan was for Snowy’s comment just before mine. That had to be one of the most ignorant statements I’ve ever heard. The Captain did put a bit of a hurtin’ on me though :)

  6. I can’t wait until the UN falls, falls, and it’s institution crumble, crumble. I would laugh as it’s people choke on the saliva of their own nervous breakdowns!

  7. Lee. Are you out there?

  8. Yep  In between disks on Return of the King. Time to go back for the second half now that my drink is refilled and I’m emptied to make more room for it!

Illinois won the Las Vegas Classic yesterday. Beat Cincinnati by 22 points and are now 14-0. Still not scared about Feb 1st?

  9. Not in the least. Since we’re both from Big Ten schools, I just wanted to get your reaction to the bowl games. I know some wolverines who are going to be ticked. Two years in a row–denied.

A humbling loss…has to hurt when you’re Michigan.

  10. It sucks; out of all the Big 10 teams in bowls only two victories. I can’t say I’m disappointed about Michigan; I want our conference to make a good showing and kick ass in the bowls, but man I hate Michigan :) How about that Iowa game though? That was a great game! I actually missed the Rose Bowl because my girlfriend’s kids came back late so she had some free time  By the looks of the score it must have been something!

  11. Make that 3 victories; I almost forgot about Minnesota.

Sure you’re not scared? We beat Cinci by 22 points and weren’t even having a good game!

PS-Bears/Packers tomorrow (today); I may or may not be available

  12. Lee, we had the Iowa game on the radio. The manager thought Iowa had lost and went outside. When he came back in, we gave him the touchdown signal. After he crapped his pants, he did his touchdown dance.

I’ll have to listen to the game on the radio today myself,…, with a bunch of Bears fans. UGH! Packers better win for shiloh’s sake.

  13. 111- bring it on lee! I am trying to get tickets! I really want to see that one.
113- We are in agreement! I just can’t root for them! I was cheering when they lost!

  14. 115-Screw Shiloh; go Bears! (no offense Shi :) ) That 56 yard touchdown in the last 14 seconds was incredible; I’d thought they’d screwed themselves not taking a time out and then losing 5 yards to a false start. I was thrilled to see LSU go down, especially after the humiliation they’d given the Illini a few years ago in the Sugar Bowl!

peejz, I’ll be jealous; I wish I could go to that game too. I’m gonna be pissed if it’s not telecast and I have to listen on the radio!

  15. 117- don’t even say that lee:shock: I’ve gotta believe it will be on. At that point, it will be too close to the tournaments. Wish me good luck in scoring tickets!

  16. 118-I know, I shouldn’t jinx it, but I’ve spent too many games by the radio because no one carried them. I had to listen to the Illinois/Cincinnati game for the Las Vegas Classic on the radio! Since Cinci was ranked (17 I think) and it’s a big tournament I thought for sure it’d be on tv, but nope. I’m guessing it was because of bowl week, but who knows?

  17. Now you sound like my husband:wink:

  18. He was mad that the Illinois/Cinci game wasn’t on tv too?

  19. I have to admit to being a partisan Spartan. I find myself going out of my way cheer against Michigan.

Of course, the only time I will cheer for Michigan is when they can be a spoiler and it’s of no consequence to MSU.

  20. 123- nothing wrong with that my friend:grin:

  21. He, it appears that that dasterdly GWB is at it again! It seems he has enlisted the help of his father and Bill Clinton to lead fund raising efforts of private donations for relief efforts.

  22. 125 – after the embarrassin start Bush got off too, he can’t do too much to redeem hisself.

Cheney should have known better. maybe he was off killin things with Scalia again.

  23. Furthermore, the money must be sent, not just pledged. The Bush administration is notorious for promising wonderful pots of money when the cameras are rolling – the Monterey summit meeting on poverty nearly three years ago comes to mind – and then failing to follow through once the attention fades. Victims of the earthquake in Bam, Iran, a year ago are still living in tents because aid, including American aid, has fallen short. In 2002 in Monterey, Mr. Bush announced a Millennium Challenge Account to give African nations development assistance of up to $5 billion a year. We’re still waiting for the account to actually hand out so much as a dollar.
