Person Questioned About Laser Beams & Planes
A laser beam was aimed at a police helicopter Friday – one of several incidents involving aircraft across the country in the past week – and federal authorities were questioning someone who had been at a house where they said the light had originated.
Officials said no one was hurt when the laser hit the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police helicopter as it flew over an area where a similar incident occurred Wednesday.
Soon after, Port Authority officials and the FBI went to a Parsippany home where they had tracked the laser beam and were questioning a person there in connection with both incidents.
No charges had been filed as of late Friday night.
This took place on Friday, but on Wednesday in the same area a green laser beam was reported by the pilot of a corporate owned Cessna as he was approaching Teterboro Airport.
So what’s going on now?
Lawyer: Parsippany resident wasn’t trying to distract pilot
The attorney of a Lake Parsippany resident questioned by authorities about his suspected use of a laser light said Saturday her client was in the “wrong place at the wrong time.”
David Banach was showing his daughter a common laser pointer that he had purchased on the Internet, said attorney Gina Mendola Longarzo.
Banach was taken from his Pitman Road home Friday by state, local and federal authorities investigating the shining of green lasers onto aircraft flying over the region.
The FBI has not pressed any charges in any of the incidents that have taken place across the country. They also have no explanation or statements to make other than it is an ongoing investigation.

FBI Probes Lasers Aimed at Plane Cockpits

What I am afraid of is another “miscommunication” between agencies. Reilly, my dad has yet to receive info from the FAA on any of this. Including the September incident. I now have him in a total snit. Is it too much to ask that they send a memo around? He won’t stop flying because of this, but someone his age is more apt to be harmed from this. He is 71, and needs all the light he can get in the cockpit, therefore sunglasses are out.
I just don’t think this is random prank.

If I may ask, what does a child do with the laser?
January 2, 2005 - 10:09 AM on January 2nd, 2005
I agree with you, peejz – - they are not sending out any information to assist those who are in cockpits and are still trying to figure out if it’s a prank – - I believe the FBI is dragging their feet on this and what if it is all just one big test run by terrorists and one night they will strike harshly all across the country. I know something I’m being paranoid, but it wouldn’t be the first time terrorists did a test run before they did their major attacks.

I have no idea what a child does with a laser, peejz – - no idea at all.

I don’t think we are paranoid at all! I am ticked off. James Woods, the actor, watched the test run, called the authorities, and they blew him off until 9/12/01. At that point, they were outside his house.

No
I knew I upset the natural order of things by rooting for the Packers last week against Minnesota. I’m getting what I deserve. One more GB score with no decent Chicago response and I’m turning on the x-box.

I told ya this stuff was stupid. The more publicity this crap gets the more people will do it just for the hell of it. If this IS terrorism then it proves we are winning because this is D.U.M.B.

Recently, the Department of Homeland Security got a memo terrorists were trying to use lasers as a possible weapon. This is not totally without precedent. Internet conspiracy theorists still believe to this day that the Russian Navy blinded a US Navy…

With the FBI arresting David Banach in Parsippany the outstanding question should be is David Banach a Mus-lim ? He took a powerful green laser home from work (one source stated) and pointed it at aircraft. Anyone who works with lasers would know this is a big fuvking no no.

My sources say yes. Banach….
