North Korea To Rejoin Talks

In June

North Korea has told officials in South Korea it is willing to take part in six-party talks on its nuclear arms programme in June.

Pyongyang also said in its message that it was willing to sign a treaty with the United States by October, the conservative Sankei Shimbun said on Monday.

Even if they do rejoin talks and sign all the treaties presented to them – - what is to say they won’t treat it like they did with Bill Clinton?

    I am not seeing the significance of June. I also feel they have too much control in the talks. I too feel that they theink they are dealing with the Clinton/Carter negotiators.

    It doesn’t matter who they are dealing with; North Korea is just playing games and trying to get more aid.

    1. North Korea is not going to give up their Nuclear Weapons as long as Kim Jung Il is in charge.

    2. President Bush is not going to attack North Korea.

    You’re right about both things, Zelda. A nuclear power is not going to give up its only deterrence against its paranoid political vision, and it will not be attacked by the US. I also don’t think N.K. will use its weapons – in that respect it is still, though, more likely than Iran to use/export such weapons.
    I don’t understand the game of kick-the-democrat going on here – The only difference between democratic and republican policies about N.K. are:
    a) the Republicans have no stated policy, and
    b) Republicans have used multi-lateral talks instead of unilateral talks to arrive at the same agreements.
    I’m not sure why George Bush Sr. escapes from blame when he was in office 1 year before the 1994 crisis, and Clinton gets blamed 4 years after his presidency ended.

    I believe it has to do with the fact that Carter bokered the deal that Clinton paid for Sandy. We gave them the money to do this.

    My only problem with President Clinton (in regards to North Korea) was that he gave them reactor grade uranium. The assumption was that they would never be able to convert it to weapons grade uranium.

    I think it was ridiculous to give them any uranium.

    Aww, poor lil’ sandy can’t understand Bush’s policy unless she gets an engraved statement outlining all the details big and small. Maybe some one tell sandy she’s not significant enough to be taken in hand like a 5 year old and explained the ways of the world.
