Bush denies Democrats Bolton files

The Bush administration said yesterday that Democratic senators should not expect to get the documents they are seeking before they will allow an up-or-down vote on John R. Bolton, whom the president nominated to be ambassador to the United Nations.

“They have what they need,” White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. “The Democratic and Republican leaders of the Intelligence Committee have had access to this sensitive, highly classified information. The Democrats clamoring for it have already voted against the nomination. This is about partisan politics.”

But Democrats said it’s not about politics, or even about Mr. Bolton anymore. They said their filibuster is an attempt to protect the institution of the Senate against a strong and overreaching administration.

“This is the most secretive administration in recent history. This is an arrogant, out-of-touch administration that refuses to acknowledge that the Congress is a co-equal branch of government,” said Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. “The vote last night demonstrates that a number of Democrats believe that Senator Biden and Senator Dodd have every right to ask for this information.”

High ranking officials have seen the classified documents – - and “highly classified” means not for everyone. These folks are just trying to bully the President of the United States. He isn’t going to give in and shouldn’t. If he gives them what they want this time then they will demand the same again and again. No matter what how many documents they read about Bolton they’ll find something more they want – - it’s time they give it a rest.

I also say that until we have a permanent ambassador to the UN we should stop paying our “dues” – - that could save us a cool billion a year.

What are they really worried about? There isn’t a better person for the job so something is else is making them
fearful. Could they be afraid of just what Bolton may find out once he is in the UN? Could it be a scandal?

  1. “This is the most secretive administration in recent history.”- Hell, they can send Sandy in to get the documents if they really want them:razz:

  2. Conservatives Scare Me

save a cool billion a year? I know how we could save a cool $80 billion every 3 months. It requires pulling out of a country of which we have wrongfully invaded.

  3. Liberals make me laugh

    and must all *ie

  4. They think Bolton is too confrontational but the UN wants a complete overhaul right…makes sense to put a man like Bolton in that position…I read somewhere that Bolton was said to have “too sharp of elbows” and that we needed a man with superior interpersonal skills who can bring people together, form coalitions and inspire other countries to agree with his point of view..Bolton is just too brass but look at Donald Trump and really successful businessmen like that…are they pussy cats? Do they not step on toes and tell it like it is? Some jobs call for that kind of ball bustin’ brashness…Bolton is the man for this job…I think anyway..

  5. Sandy, you make a good point. We have sent people in to play nice and look where it has gotten us. I would just as soon pull out of the UN, but if this is what we must do, John Bolton is the man for the job.

  6. Oh pulling out for sure Peejz…wouldn’t hurt my feelings a bit.
