From CBS News:
A new poll suggests Sen. John McCain is far and away the leading contender for the White House in 2008. The Arizona Republican would rout the top Democrat, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, in a theoretical match-up, according to a Zogby America poll.
The two senators were well ahead of the competition for their parties’ respective nominations, but McCain would trounce the former first lady, 54 percent to 35 percent, in a head-to-head contest.
McCain would also easily defeat former Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, 55 to 35 percent…

I guess this doesn’t surprise me, and I definitely agree that I’d pick McCain over Hillary. Of course, with that choice I’d probably vote Libertarian again in 2008. McCain talks a good talk, and he definitely knows how to work the press. I think that if he was in the White House there would a relationship with the press very similar to the one that existed with the Clintons. Well, he’s a Republican so it wouldn’t be that good, but he’s the closest thing the Republicans have to a “media darling”. My problem is that he reminds me too much of one particular Democrat, John Kerry. You can bet that he’ll be touting his military record just as much as Kerry, and unfortunately he seems to flip flop just as much. The Republicans could use a good charismatic candidate, and although it might be McCain’s turn to run I think he has some very strong competition in Rudy Guilani, and I think there’s a lot of pressure in the Bush family for Jeb to try to keep the White House in the family. Whoever gets the nomination, it should be an, uhm, ‘interesting’ election.
McCain was formerly backed by Soros, which places him out of contention for my vote.
Ted
