He is emerging as the alternative to HillaryThis week in Columbus, Ohio, the Democrats held their first dress rehearsal of sorts for the 2008 presidential nomination battle under the auspices of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council. Not surprisingly, Hillary Clinton won the adulation of the party faithful by pledging to “isolate and defeat the far right wing” of the Republicans. But Mrs. Clinton is such an enormous frontrunner that the only real intriguing question in Columbus was: Who, if anyone, will emerge as the moderate challenge to Hillary?
The candidate who seems to be rising like a comet is the governor of Virginia, Mark Warner. One Democratic political strategist, Jim Jordan, who served as John Kerry’s political adviser, has gone so far to say: “If [Gov. Warner] gets in, there is a real possibility that he emerges as the primary alternative to Hillary Clinton, and there is a strong argument to be made that he would be the party’s strongest conceivable general election candidate.”
This is very good news- I hope the Democrats find a moderate alternative to sHillary. If Lieberman had won on the Dems side, he would have had my vote for President, instead of Bush. I look forward to finding out more about Gov. Warner, and depending on who the Reps vote in to run, he may well get my vote. It is very possible he would get my vote over the likes of McCain or Ron Paul.

1. I agree with you Ted. I am limited to my picks on the right as I don’t like the choices I am hearing. I will wait to see what he has got, but I like the fact that he is putting himself out there!
I don’t like McCain, Hagel, or any Democrat mentioned so far, especially Hillary or Tom Vilsack. I’ve had it with shysters, and that is Hillary and Vilsack.

The one over riding factor that steers me clear of McCain is the fact that he accepted contributions from George Soros. That makes him damaged good IMO.
I just wish Rudy would run- he’d get my vote in a heartbeat.

4, I wish Chris Cox, R-CA, would run. The man is smart and honest.
What about Bush III… just when you thought it was safe to go back into the voting booth? Ironically I think he would make a better Pres than either his father or his brother.I don’t think he will run for 08, but 12/16 depending on who wins in 08. Maybe a good candidate for VP in 08.
6, I’m not happy with Jeb’s handling of the Schiavo case. There are a number of issues in FL that he should attend to from that case before he does any kind of Presidential run. The first being reform of Judicial ethics and contributions to Judicial campaigns.
