Highlights of the Energy Bill
Tax breaks of $14.5 billion over 10 years for energy companies, renewable energy sources and promotion of efficiency.
- Requirement for refiners to use 7.5 billion gallons of ethanol annually by 2012, double current production.
- Extension of daylight saving time by a month.
New efficiency standards for commercial appliances, from air conditioners to refrigerators.
- Requirement for utilities to meet federal reliability standards for the electric transmission grid, hoping to avoid blackouts such as the one in the summer of 2003.
- Easing the way for more imports of liquefied natural gas by giving federal regulators final say over import terminals.
- $1 billion for coastal environmental management in states where there is offshore oil production.
Just what we need the buricrats extending daylight savings time why do we have to put up with these politicians and their rediclous ideas anyway?
I actually like the idea of extending it.
I wish Congress would be serious about actually doing something instead of dressing up a pork laden bill.
You want to cut energy usage? Have a rebate program for people who replace their energy leaky windows in their homes with new energy efficient ones.
Pay to insulate homes 50 years old and older that did not have any insulation requirements when they were built.
If you want wind energy, the put a wind farm in places where the PC liberals have to live them. Damn Walter Chronkite and Teddy Kennedy.
Review all law concerning emissions and fuel economy. Every honest mechanic knows that lean dropping makes a car run dirtier and less efficient.
Restrict Congress and national campaigners travel. Make them take trains or buses more and ban hopscotching back and forth across the country. Make them schedule a circuit and take PUBLICALLY ACCESSED REGULARLY SCHEDULED TRANSPORTATION!
Open off shore and ALL of Alaska to energy exploration.
Do all this and we be on our way to an energy solution.
extend DST by a month… which way, frontwards or backwards? won’t make a hoot of a difference in places that don’t honor it though. I say, let’s just set the clocks half an hour ahead and leave ‘em there all year round… or better yet, get rid of all the frickin’ clocks! imagine all the electricity that could be saved not running clocks any more!
ban clocks!! ban clocks!! ban clocks!!
NotsamIAm, is right on that one, its a joke and people just don’t get what is happening. its not about saving anything but it is about the show and the lies.
but the crops all need the extra hour of sunshine to grow.
Good point Bill.
“The more daylight we have, the less electricity we use,” said U.S. Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), who co-sponsored the measure with U.S. Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.)
Wow you can simply legislate more daylight in a day? The government really can do anything! To think somebody actually elected these idiots.
Drake, logically, what was said is a true statement.
So what’s your point? Let’s say the government passes a law saying that everyone needs to travel the speed of light to and from work so they can have more free time in the day, yes that’s logical, but also impossible and thus meaningless. In the real world you can’t go the speed of light any more than you can increase the amount of daylight hours in a day by simply moving the hands on your clock by an hour. Any idiot should realize that.
Drake, you appear to be the only idiot here. I am in Michigan. If I were not on daylight savings time as we speak, it would be dark at my house at 8:30 p.m. As it is, it doesn’t get dark until 9:30. Therefore I save an hour of electricity usuage for lighting some rooms.
Then why don’t we just fenagle the clocks so that it is only dark between 11pm and 9am, while we are at it……
13-Is that physically possible Mike?
who the hell knows.
what happened to our buddy, the scarecrow?
I cannot believe that my tax money was wasted trying to figure out what time it should be!!!! The president and the rest of those clowns in D.C. have no idea what time it is….COME ON AMERICA…Tell them what time it should be!!!! IT IS TIME TO BRING OUR TROOPS HOME!!!!! Another, if not the biggest waste of my money!!!!
It seems that the biggest complaint is the kids standing at the bus stop in darkness. Actually I like the extension. Why don’t they change the school hours to match the daylight. Duh!!!
Okay, so help me out here. Will this change mean the bars stay open an hour later? I always get confused on that.
17- Back in the 70′s they did for us in MI.
