Thousands of Sunni demonstrators rallied Monday in Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit (search) to denounce Iraq’s new constitution a day after negotiators finished the new charter without the endorsement of Sunni Arabs.
Sunni leaders have urged their community to defeat the charter in a nationwide referendum Oct. 15, saying it had been rammed through the drafting committee by the dominant Shiite Arab and Kurdish alliance.
Iraq’s biggest Sunni party, meanwhile, accused the Shiite-led security forces of massacring 36 Sunni men and dumping their bodies near the Iranian border. A major Shiite group said Sunni gunmen killed seven Shiite villagers after they refused to leave their homes.
The allegations were made one day after the Shiite and Kurdish-dominated government approved a draft constitution despite Sunni Arab objections and referred it to the voters in a referendum six weeks from now.
At least 2,000 protesters assembled in Tikrit near the office of the Association of Muslim Scholars (search) ” a hard-line Sunni clerical group opposed to the U.S. occupation ” carrying Iraqi flags and portraits of the former dictator.
“We sacrifice our souls and blood for you, Saddam,” chanted the demonstrators. They carried pictures of Shiite clerics Muqtada al-Sadr (search) and Jawad al-Khalisi who have joined the Sunnis in opposing the constitutional draft.

Any fool think that the Sunnis don’t want the glory days of Saddam back? This Constitution is going to be better for all Iraqis. I just wish the MSM would be honest and publish the facts, not the propaganda of the Hate America First, and the “Saddam, We Love You” chorus.
I noted this name Muqtada al-Sadr . This is someone that should be watched. I would like to see the trial move forward. Saddam needs to be dealt with so the process can move forward.
2, Al Sadr, is that fake cleric we were hunting almost 2 years ago for killing a rival cleric. He also had a band of killers following him that was causing trouble and trying to carve out a separate state just after combat operations were complete.
There was a few stories that this Al Sadr was funded and armed by Iran.
See what happens when we didn’t “take care of business” and off problems like this in the beginning?
Also, the MSM is making a big deal out of 2000 disgruntled followers/hired killers of Saddam Hussein, but almost totally ignores 4000 counter protesters to Sheehan in Crawford, TX. Very few words about parents who aren’t dishonoring their fallen children’s service to the US in this war.
The Media is a bunch of Sunshine Patriots at best.
Somones been lying to the sunnis and is that DAN RATHER?
Well someone needs to do a little hard core explaining of the situation to the Sunnis. The rank and file need to be made aware of exactly what a sectarian civil war will entail. The Shia and the Kurds between them out number the Sunnis by 4 to 1. The Shia are I’m certain becoming more than a bit weary of the terrorist crap and the Kurds have some major axes to grind with the Sunnis. If the Sunnis push Iraq into a sectarian civil war, it could end in the destruction of the Sunnis from Iraq entirely. With what the Sunni Baathist’s did to both the Shiites, and the Kurds over the last 35 years, they could almost certainly only count on the mercy of the United States to keep from being wiped out. Perhaps a few sample executions made to look like botched bomb making attempts would secure a more willing Sunni attitude. Of course we could always simply “Ping” every new active cell phone every time it changes towers. To be really nasty we could unleash the most horrible of American terrorists on the Iraqis, telemarketers. The terrorists would never be able to use a cell phone to trigger a bomb again as they’d never be able to get a free line.
You are right on target. Somebody needs to pull the Sunni leadership aside and give them a reality check:
1. They were the ones who supported Saddam, so that’s strike 1 right there. He’s no lonmger in power.
2. They are a minority. As stated above, in a civil war, they would be massacred.
3. They have NO OIL. If the country was divisded up 3 ways, they’d be left with NOTHING.
4. They have been going around murdering and terrorising the others, then they just expect to say “Kings X” and everything’s cool?
Yeah, right. They should be told get with the program or get the out (if they want to live).
#6, Arty: In addition to telemarketers, we have two more weapons in our arsenal: Lawyers and welfare recipients. Two categories there are huge surpluses of, and frankly it would benefit our nation immensely to get rid of these surpluses.
We could wrap the lawyers in bubble-wrap drop the lawyers out of low-flying C130′s. The ones that survive could immediately begin tyin up every aspect of the “insurgency” with red tape. Within 2 weeks it would come to a standstill.
There is a huge surplus of welfare recipients right now, coming out of New Orleans. Ship them over to the insurgents. Not only would they immediately soak up all available resources, but they would create huge volumes of waste that would severely tax the insurgent infrastructure. Some would be used in beheading videos, but very soon the beheading videos would have lost their effect as everyone has seen them too many times. You seen on BH video, you’ve seen them all.
Seems to me a pretty good idea to solve multiple problems at once!
