It Is A Cycle! Not Global Warming

NYT

Because hurricanes form over warm ocean water, it is easy to assume that the recent rise in their number and ferocity is because of global warming.

But that is not the case, scientists say. Instead, the severity of hurricane seasons changes with cycles of temperatures of several decades in the Atlantic Ocean. The recent onslaught “is very much natural,” said William M. Gray, a professor of atmospheric science at Colorado State University who issues forecasts for the hurricane season.

From 1970 to 1994, the Atlantic was relatively quiet, with no more than three major hurricanes in any year and none at all in three of those years. Cooler water in the North Atlantic strengthened wind shear, which tends to tear storms apart before they turn into hurricanes.

In 1995, hurricane patterns reverted to the active mode of the 1950′s and 60′s. From 1995 to 2003, 32 major hurricanes, with sustained winds of 111 miles per hour or greater, stormed across the Atlantic. It was chance, Dr. Gray said, that only three of them struck the United States at full strength.

Historically, the rate has been 1 in 3.

These hurricanes are considered a “natural cycle”.

  1. To AL GORE and the rest of the enviromentalists wackos especialy at GREENPEACE heres a word from this bird ITS A CYCLE STUPID:razz:

  2. well who would ever thunk it? where is that PHD now?

  3. According to RFK Jr., this is caused by us not signing the Kyoto Treaty.

  4. when is the last time we stuck one of those bastards in the ground?

  5. RFK jr is as much of a idiot as ever hime and his eco-nuts WATER KEEPERS ALLIANCE has been trying to ruin pork producers and have failed and now this whinning nit-wit is trying to blame george bush for global warming what a rich little spoiled brat and total idiot:razz:

  6. I think, no matter which theory turns out to be true, Global Warming or Cycles, you are too quick to jump to conclusions. Whenever you hear of the possibility that the political figures you hate are wrong, you don’t try to disprove them, you insult them. I didn’t hear a single logical fact or consideration away from what I would expect from a “Right Voice”.

Have you people gone on Google, looked at charts of global temperature from the last 400 years(From 3 different studies), averaged them, and plugged them in to see if the temputure has been moving in cycles or steadily rising.

  7. And then someone will go back 800 or 1000 years and find there is still some cyle at work.

I have no problem with good and proper resource managment. Long and short of it is that we didn’t build the ecosystem, and it’s going to take more power than we have to destroy it.
