Black Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican.
Such attacks against the first black man to win a statewide election in Maryland include pelting him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance, calling him an “Uncle Tom” and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log.Operatives for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) also obtained a copy of his credit report — the only Republican candidate so targeted.
But black Democrats say there is nothing wrong with “pointing out the obvious.”

O’Connor seems to have grown wiser about diversity as a result of her Supreme Court experience. She came to see the virtues of having a court that looks like America - doubtless a big reason she softened her opposition to affirmative action in recent years.
In losing a woman, the court with Alito would feature seven white men, one white woman and a black man, who deserves an asterisk because he arguably does not represent the views of mainstream black America.”

What is the REAL, but unstated, reason Democrats hate Michael Steele enough to engage in a racist, hate campaign against him?
FEAR and a desperate need to distract the press and the public from focusing on how the Democrats have sold Maryland Blacks down the river.
Michael Steele is a native of, and lives in, Prince George’s County, Maryland.
EVERY county and state level elected official in Prince George’s County is a Democrat.
The majority of them are Black.
Half of the non-Black minority are Hispanic.
Top school adminsitrators are predominately Black.
If you believe the Democrat’s rhetoric, you would expect Prince George’s County to be a paradise, especially for “minorities.”
You would be wrong.
Prince George’s County’s rapidly increasing murder rate is second highest in Maryland and the highest in the Washington, DC, suburbs.
Prince George’s County’s schools are the second worst in Maryland and the worst in the Washington, DC, suburbs. The Black school chief recently resigned while being investigated by the FBI; one of his
top assistants ($130,000 per year) has just been convicted on federal drug laundering charges and has been indicted on witness tampering charges.
Prince George’s County has more car thefts and violent carjackings than all the rest of Maryland and the DC suburbs put together.
Attacking Michael Steele is just part of the Democrats scheme to distract the public and the press from their ongoing abysmal failure to either protect or educate the people of Prince George’s County.
Unfortunately, the GOP will not field, much less effectively support, respectable alternatives to the failing Prince George’s County Democrats.
Yesterday I got an action alert from the Maryland GOP about this. While it wasn’t the first time I had heard this it just got my goat this time and I got on the phone and immediately started calling the elected dumbocrats of Maryland demanding they apologize to Mr. Steele. As of now I’m waiting for that apology. Mr. Steele, along with Gov. Ehrlich, has done many wonderful things for Maryland and I’m sick of the racist name calling.
Bonbon and Diane, why aren’t the 2 Schumer aides who illegally obtained Steele’s credit report and publicized it in jail or under indictment? The people who are charged with indicting and prosecuting such crimes should be deluged with calls and emails to act or be removed from office.
Too bad Chuck Muth moved back to Nevada. He’d rally his troops to Steele’s aid.
PCD, I really don’t know why they weren’t indicted other than that they are democrats. The MSM here in Maryland didn’t make much of the incident and they wrote it off as youthful hubris. Having said that it was also my understanding that these two staff persons were NOT interns or graduate students but in fact people who had been paid staff for a number of years. It really was not publicized and hard to find any information on. I wished very hard that someone would but Maryland is a Democrat dominated state. It’s hard to fight them. They are consistently and unequivocally ’stuck on stupid’.

Shiloh. I read much more on this site than I post and I can tell you that I think you are one of the rudest people I have witnessed. You remind me of so many of the liberals around here who refuse to see things as they are and continually do and say things that are not only disrespectful but make absolutely no sense in the scheme of things.

They are well read and understand the issues and how they affect Americans, especially in this post 9/11 world. Michael Steele did nothing to deserve this and apparently after this report was taken there wasn’t even anything there to use. As a citizen don’t you think he has rights? Don’t you think he deserves respect for everything he has accomplished in his life? Do you understand no one has even apologized to him? Do you understand that what these two people did was criminal?

Bon Bon, can you imagine if one of the Republican strategists had tried to do something like this to Al Sharpton during the last POTUS primaries? It isn’t acceptable to do this to anyone regardless of the color of their skin, let alone their political preference. Absolutely Peejz. In fact, in my history class we have been studying the fact that NO ONE wanted slaves to be free. The north (democrats) were just as prejudice and didn’t want to rock the boat as the south. AND, fyi, it was the Republicans who finally signed the Emancipation Proclamation Act. That is something the Al Sharptons of the world seem to forget in their blind loyalty to the Dems.
I think the Democrats have been doing these sleezy criminal acts for so long they think everyone else does them too. How very wrong they are and very, very, sad.
