I was so steamed about the filthy degeneracy of Peanut Man and POS Lowery that I forgot to mention a glaring reality that should be strikingly obvious and telling to all who saw this:

Rev. Lowery, one of America’s genuine heroes, spoke truth to power today at the King Memorial. His words were in the best of the prophetic Christian preaching tradition. Rev. King and Mrs. King would have been proud of their friend. All of those who are criticizing Rev. Lowery simply do not understand God’s call for us to “do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with”our God (Micah 6:8). I only wish President Bush took his Christian faith more seriously.
Is it Christian justice to use a funeral to take a political cheap shot at the President in time of war? I don’t think so.
A funeral service is a time to preach the world of God. God tells in the Bible that war is against God’s way, Jesus tells us that how we treat the poor reflects on how we treat him, and we are all called to do justice to protect God’s creation, this earth. The President ignores those teachings. A church service – even a funeral – is where the Gospel is preached. Bush is in conflict with God’s teachings and that must have made him uncomfortable. Good. Church isn’t a country club. If you don’t walk away thinking what more can I do then the church has failed – or you’ve failed to listen.
Chuck, spare us the hypocritical lectures. Christ was not a politician. He chased the money grubbing money changers out of the Temple. He would have chased Lowrey and Carter out, too.

Where were the MSM with the footage/commentaries from the Civil Rights activities during the MLK days? Where was the history lesson for the kids? What I got out of the past week was Bush bashing and Oprah was at the memorial. Oh and if you read the People article, you will know that Coretta marched along side her husband, as she wore hi-heels! Yes thats right, she did!

Have any of you read/heard the eulogy that MLK gave for the four girls that were killed in the Alabama church bombing? It is a highly political speech. If he himself thought it appropriate then, why would similar speeches be wrong for a memorial to his wife? Speaking out against any violence, war or otherwise, is part of the King legacy.
36- SW I have read it. This Eulogy was delivered at funeral service for three of the children”Addie Mae Collins, Carol Denise McNair, and Cynthia Diane Wesley”killed in the bombing. A separate service was held for the fourth victim, Carole Robertson, Sept. 17, 1963, at St. John AME Church. As you can see from the text that I provided, Dr King discussed the subject at hand. He discussed the senseless death of these innocent children. He discussed the fact the death is not the end. NO WHERE did he turn the funeral service into a political circus. NO WHERE did he stray from the subject at hand and tie in the troops in Vietnam, or wire tapping.
No where do I see a comparison that is relevant!

The breadth of Mrs. King’s life work made the discussion of nearly any struggle, injustice or political situation relevant today.
Robert – Each of the speakers you seem to object to spoke of ISSUES related to the struggles for peace and justice that Mrs. King spent her life working toward. If Mr. Bush spoke of abuses of peace and justice rather than direct personal attacks on politicians he would have had every right.
It wasn’t just issues of Peace and Justice. They were political cheap shots with a very thin veneer of “peace and justice issues”.
And had Bush done that (political situation) he would have been just as wrong as those that dishonored Mrs. King by using the occasion as a political grandstand. But Bush dispalyed a lot of class when he didn’t, and frankly more patience and restraint than I would have shown by not getting up and walking out when Peanut Brain opened his mouth and expelled diarrhea.
Glad Mr. Bush didn’t take a day devoted to honoring our veterans to launch a political attack against his critics. That really would have been a cheap shot…
