Chicago is a No!
Chicago has turned the Republicans down for hosting the RNC Convention in 2008! They say they are more interested in securing the 2016 Olympics. They can’t do both? The 2 events are 8 years apart. I started thinking that there must be more to it than that. Could it be that 2008 will be the 40 year anniversary of the 1968? See here, here, here and here for a little of that history.
The RNC doesn’t need to kiss their ass, I am sure a better city will host it!

I, for one, wouldn’t want the RNC here, in Chicago. This place is way too liberal. Weirdos are outside the main government buildings protesting constantly about Supreme Court Justices, No Child Left Behind, the War in Iraq, or whatever else tickles their fancy. Constantly… The city has been fighting permit battles with these people at every turn and I wonder if the city just doesn’t want to deal with all the liberal garbage that will come along with the RNC. Plus, the last thing we need to do is put Mayor Daley or Governor Blagojevich in the spotlight.

Good point PrivatePigg. I guess Daley figures he may end up doing the same thing his father did 40 years prior:wink:

It’s a good theory and makes sense. The convention brings in $$$, but if the city ends up spending more money on police, cleanup, and damage, it is a zero sum event.

Even more humourous, I read in the paper today that the RNC has offered Det-riot, whoops I mean Detroit the 2008 convention. The mayor, claims he’ll consider it. Ya right, why don’t they offer it to Oakland county, that’s where the legitimate city of Detroit resides these days.
