According to this AP article, Anrea Yates rejected a plea deal that would have put her in prison for 35 years. 35 years for the killing of 3 of her 5 children. For whatever reason, she was not charged in the deaths of 2 of the children she murdered. It would be my hope that all 5 are respresented at her re-trial. I would also ask that the state re-examine charges to be brought against Rusty Yates. IMO, he is just as guilty as she is. He went before the cameras and played on our sympathy….but as time went on, we saw a man that was, imo, controlling and not too bright. He picked her up from the psych ward how many times, and then turned around and had her home schooling the kids? As for Andrea, I feel that she thinks that she will get off this time..but I have faith in the system. She got off on a technicallity that more than likely had no bearing on the juries findings…
May the Yates children rest in peace and may the State of Texas do them justice in this trial!
Ban plea bargening not guns:roll:
Every time I think of the details of this story it is very painful just to think about. But the very FIRST thing that should be done to people who kill or badly abuse their children should be sterilization.
Whatever the criminal justice system does to them afterwards is a subject for debate, but they should NEVER be able to bring any more children into the world.
Robert- Why is it that when we parole child molesters, they are given guidelines about staying away from schools and children, but in this case, we can’t seem to make that kind of law?
Peejz, Sometimes I wonder if it’s just the liberal mentality. They are so very quick to defend abortion yet hesitate to mete out justice in any kind of murder case.
I am a death penalty advocate for sure but I have read about this case, Andrea, her husband, and the affects of severe post partum depression with the operative word being severe. While I don’t think she should ever get out of jail I also believe she is very mentally disturbed. Her husband, who has now “moved on”, should have been held accountable as well. Her depression was diagnosed after the first baby. What the hell was he doing getting her pregnant 4 more times?
At any rate I feel very sorry for this woman whose mental state made her do such horrific things.
BonBon- I am asking this in all seriousness…in your research of postpartum, how many cases did you come across in which the mother killed her children vs how many abandoned their children? I ask this because I have found the latter to be the case. I could not find a case precedent for Andrea…Now, I too am a CP advocate, but I agree that if she is as ill as has been portrayed, than she should never walk free.
As for Rusty…it is criminal in my mind that the man is not being charged. In the original post I stated that this man picked her up from mental wards on a number of occasions. At the times he picked her up, not all of them were when the hospital released her of their will. Most of them were times when Rusty and Andrea deemed her sane enough to come home and home school the kids. If she was a menally ill as has been portrayed, why was he not in charge of the meds?
Why was her family cut off when the trial started…everything was hunky dorie during the trial, yet his family did all the talking, but as soon as it was over, the families split.
Just think if ANDREA YEATES had killed a animal the jerks in PETA and the usial mindless hollywood wackos would be wantuing her sent to prison for life:eek:
Peejz…I agree it’s a tough one. In truth you are right, I have never heard of another woman killing her children. Most do just abandon them. Having said that though I think that her husband was controlling. The control he exercised over her was all consuming and overwhelming. I think there should have been many criminal charges filed against him for that very reason.
As for her, execution to me just seems wrong. I definitely don’t think she should ever be free again though.
I am leaning toward life without parole. I would be surprised at how many psychotic episodes she has had in prison?
Peejz, I agree that Russel yates also has responsibility, and he failed as a husband to protect his wife and as a Father to protect his kids.
I wouldn’t execute her, but I’d probably put her in a mental institution and would setrilize both of them. Not sure what to do to Russel beyond that.
I also believe that drug addicts, and chronic welfare recipients should also be given a cash offer to voluntarily accept sterilization.
