The IRS threatens church leaders who talk about politics

By: Pam On: Mar/10/06 - 4 Comments

Religious organizations, for the most, are exempt from paying taxes on the money they collect. Therefore, I was glad to see that the IRS is going to start clamping down on them for hiding behind their status, while at the same time being stewards for a political cause. Good for the IRS. It is about time. When can I expect them to do the same with unions? Unions have the same tax-exempt status as the church, yet they are more heavily involved in elections at the local, state and federal levels.

If the IRS wants to get serious about the issue, they will stop all organizations that are tax-exempt from being involved in elections. Nothing is stopping these groups from paying taxes. If they did that, then this would be a moot point.
