All of that is partly responsible for the phony, misguided, condescending benevolence -- in the 'white man's burden sense -- shown by people like Jong and Bloomberg. They do want a permanent, economic slave class. This reminds me of a line by Richard Pryor from the early 1980s, after wave after wave of Vietnamese immigrants came to the U.S. Richard's explanation for why they were allowed to come here: "They needed some new niggers because the old ones were gettin' too uppity." Any worker wanting more than minimum wage, which is below the poverty line, is too uppity for the elite. They want their lawns moved and their trash emptied and their toilets cleaned, but dammit, they're not going to pay anyone a living wage to do it.
