“Si Se Puede!”

By: Pam On: Apr/10/06 - 7 Comments

Yesterday was another day of marching across the nation by illegal aliens and their supporters. Supporters for them included the Black Panthers and the Che groupies!

The signs were colorful with slogans like: “No Somos Teroristas Like You Are Bush” and “HONKIES Why Don’t You Take Your asses back to Europe?”

Did INS come out in force yesterday? If anyone can find anything that I can post showing that INS or the cops started rounding people up, please put the link in the comments section and I will do a post on it!

These mass demonstrations have made me less sympathetic to the immigrants; legal or illegal.

Illegals are law breakers to begin with. Send them back, and take the Kerrys and Kennedys with you!

I makes me sympathetic to those that are trying to immigrate to this country legally. There have been quite a few articles over the weekend that show that the problem is not limited to Mexican’s…they just happen to be the largest number.

The drummer in my band is an Indian who grew up in Indonesia. He attended very good private schools in Jakarta and was accepted in the Engineering program at the University of Pennsylvania.. he graduated several years ago and works for chemical company in New York…..he will NEVER be able to be a citizen

what does that say? Shame on Bush for conferring “citizenship” on these fucking fence-jumpers while hard-working people like my drummer suffer from following the rules.

It’s so maddening, I feel like my head is going to fly off my shoulders…

If anything, to any thinking American, these large protests should be an alarm bell. It should wake people up to the fact that this isn’t some grass roots groundswell, there are organized, well-financed, and determined forces at work.

That should scare the hell out of Americans who care about the future—and make them determined to support real reform, not what these mobs are demanding.

There are really multiple issues that need to be addressed here.

The first is border security. At the moment, we have none. That has to be fixed first and foremost. It does the US no good to pass an unwieldy enforcement policy or even an Amnesty program if we aren’t going to do something to make it more difficult to sneak into this country in the first place.

Secondly the immigration system is outdated. It simply shouldn’t take 9 years to get a Visa or a green card. There also shouldn’t be a 5000 per year limit on Mexicans. That’s simply a number that is entirely too low. It might have been adequate back in the 40s or 50s but it simply doesn’t work any longer. With the advent of computers, it should be substantially easier to check someone out and insure their desirability as an immigrant.

Lastly, what do we do with the Aliens who are currently here ILLEGALLY? While deporting them would probably be next to impossible, making their continued stay here as an illegal hell would not. We can crack down on employers who willingly and knowingly hire workers with fake/questionable documents. We can put a surcharge on wire transfers of money to Mexico. We can require that all government business be conducted in English ONLY. We can deny federal benefits to non citizens. We don’t have to give their kids in state tuition. We don’t have to provide English language learner programs in schools. By refusing to provide these additional services to illegal aliens, we not only would save money, we’d make their life so much less comfortable that many would simply leave of their own accord.

What I would like to see happen is probably less conservative than some would hope, but far more practical than anything I’ve heard come out of Congress yet. My idea on how to improve if not fix the illegal alien problem is:

    1. Put up the fence and man it accordingly. This will help cut down on illegal immigration as well as smuggling. Note I didn’t say that it would stop these things, it will however reduce them significantly.

    2. Increase Visa limits to 200,000 per year (more than that sneak across the border monthly now, so we wouldn’t be gaining or losing anything on this one.) Expedite all of those currently in the system and allow illegals who have been living in the US to return to their native countries, prove extended residency and employment for reentry after background check. This should take less than a month to verify. Require all illegals in this country to return to their home countries to register within 6 months or be deported immediately and permanently upon discovery.

    3. Increase temporary work permit limits to 1,000,000 per year. Make it necessary to obtain these in their country of record, require proof of employment, health exam, shot record, and criminal background check. Make these permits legal for no more than 1 year, but renewable in the home country annually. This would allow Illegals in this country to have the opportunity to apply for or renew a work permit while visiting relatives in their home country or at least spend a week or two in their native country while the paperwork was being processed. Require all illegals in this country to return to their home countries to register within 6 months or be deported immediately upon discovery.

    4. Absolutely hammer any employer found to not be checking Social Security numbers against the national database. It’s simply too easy to cross check SSNs to not do and since many employers would rather hire illegals and claim ignorance, I feel it’s time to make the ignorance cost them. Ignorance in any endeavor can be costly, why should employing unqualified workers not be one of them?

    5. Actively pursue leads on illegal aliens in this country. Every legitimate employer files a w-2 for each of his employees. The IRS knows when a W-2 comes in with an unassigned or questionable SSN. Why not simply take that list and back track it to the employers who are accepting bogus SSN information and then on to the workers who are, in essence, committing identity fraud? Is there anyone who thinks an employer won’t roll over on the illegals in their workforce versus paying a $10,000 fine per infraction? I’d bet there are even some employers who would hire illegals and then turn them in just before pay day in order to avoid having to actually pay them.

Who knows? Maybe just maybe someone in Congress may actually figure out that without enforcement, there can be no immigration reform. But with it the rest of the system can be modified to work properly. Now if they’d just figure out that the best way to handle the Cuba problem would be to drop the sanctions and simply flood the Cuban economy with American made goods, we might even make some headway there. We don’t need to invade Cuba. Walmart and McDonald’s would work far better with less loss of life. Mexico on the other hand may require a full scale invasion. LOL

My mother came to America LEGALLY from Italy. Where is her parade and that of the millions of other legal citizens?
