Racist Math Via Bellevue (WA) Community College
Michelle Malkin was forwarded this math problem by Rev. Wayne Perryman of Mercer Island, WA, that appeared on an exam at Bellevue (WA) Community College.
Dear Friends: The following sample math problem was given to students as part of their final exam at Bellevue Community College in Washington State. I was asked by black students to represent them in this matter. Some of these students attend my church. I am asking all of you and your friends to e-mail the school at the following e-mail addresses and express your outrage: Advising@bcc.ctc.edu, tpritcha@bcc.ctc.edu, and amatsumo@bcc.ctc.edu. The following is the math problem given to the students.
Condoleezza holds a watermelon just over the edge of the roof of the 300 -foot Federal Building, and tosses it up with a velocity of 20 feet per second. The height of the watermelon above the ground t seconds later is given by formula h= -16t2 + 20t + 300a. How many seconds will it pass her (she’s standing at a height of 300 feet) on the way down?
b. When will the watermelon hit ground?
If they used this same problem and substituted Condoleezza’s name with Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, there would be mass protest and they would shut the college down. Because it was Condoleezza Rice, they wanted to ignore it until I showed up today. Please e-mail the college and express your outrage and your support of having me at the table to resolve this issue. I am demanding that the college to do several things to correct the problem.
This is serious. Please do not let me down, I want thousands of e-mails to come from all across the country. A CBS affiliate, KIRO TV did cover this story.

I’m still trying to figure out how a liberal can claim to love America. Everything that they have done for years has been conterproductive to this country.
They have weakened the military while making generations of people dependent on welfare stipends instead of encouraging them to work to reach their full potential.
They’ve insisted on lowering educational standards to the lowest common denominator. They’ve preached outcome based education wherein there is no right or wrong answer as long as the student feels good about his response. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work in the real world. If you can’t read, you can’t fill out a job application no matter how good you feel about yourself. Likewise just because you think 2 plus 2 equals 5, doesn’t mean that it is.
While screaming for energy independence, they’ve effectively stopped development or use of any domestic energy sources.
While the ultra rich liberals (Kennedies, etc etc) preach that higher taxation is the route to social equality, they themselves pay virtually no taxes.
BTW the US was never intended to provide social equality, only equal opportunity. Don’t think it does? Try telling that to all of the foreignors who have moved here with nothing and become very successful in running their own businesses.
Liberals have touted gun control as a crime prevention technique despite years of evidence and numerous studies that prove that gun control does nothing but lower job related risk for criminals.
Then again, the liberals are the ones pushing to have felons have their voting rights restored. At the rate they’re going, the felons will vote to have laws concerning bank robbery, murder, and any of a number of other crimes legalized.
One liberal even advocated having the UN patrol our streets to protect us from terrorists. Considering the UN Peacekeepers’ record for poor behavior in Africa, who’s going to protect us from them?
Now exactly how has any of these historically Liberal beliefs and agendas ever been to the betterment of the US?
I can honestly tell you that you don’t find a lot of liberals in the US military. Now if they love this country so damn much, why aren’t they willing to risk their lives to defend it? If you want to see a coward, look at a liberal. Liberal programs have never been successful in the long term.
The Democratic party in this country isn’t even a party of ideas, they’ve become simply the party of opposition. It doesn’t matter what is put before them, they are going to oppose it, even plans proposed by FDR. FDR proposed the private social security accounts with his initial “New Deal” but with the all too recent stock market crash at the time, the Republicans at the time were too worried about another to go along with the plan. If the Democrats are so pro choice, why is it that they refuse to allow the rest of us the opportunity to choose how our retirement funds should be invested? Liberals talk a good game but despite their argument that they shouldn’t be judged by their failures but by their motives, the real world lives by whether you succeed or fail not what your intentions were. You may intend to be the world’s greatest fisherman, but if your kids go hungry because you can’t catch a single fish, your intentions mean nothing. Results matter. Intentions don’t. Moral victories will always be overshadowed by actual ones. Lying in a pool of your own blood because you’re too much of a pacifist to defend yourself isn’t a victory no matter how you spin it.

Yes. They constantly beat the Global Warming drum, talking about greenhouse gases. In Kalifornia, 42% of all the Carbon Dioxide generated each year is from electric power generation. Seems quite logical that if they are motivated to stop Global Warming, they’d support alternatives? You could eliminate all of that in the next 20 years by going all nuclear, plus have the extra power at night to produce Hydrogen so that when the Hydrogen fuel cell is ready we can start converting autos to run on it, further reduce CO2 emission, and end dependence on foreign oil! Wow, solve 3 problems at once! Except that the eco-whackos, the Jane Fonda China Syndrome crowd, and the nuclear waste NIMBYs won’t have any of that talk.

Just wanted to point out some assumptions in the postings here. First, that the instructor involved is liberal in his politics, and for that reason formulated this problem. Have any of you even read his explanation? The point is not his politics; I would be as offended by this if any prominent black American’s name had been used. To turn this into a political issue misses the point: how can an experienced college educator, in the cultural climate in which we all live, not be aware that his words are insensitive at best, and racist at worst? Conservatives appear to only address racial issues when they involve conservative Americans of color. Liberals are offended by ALL racisim, not just that which involves the “right people.”

You have all lost sight of a major issue. In a desperate attempt to seem more progressive and racially astute, you have all helped widen the gap between minorities and mainstream society. The longer they are treated differently the more different they will become. None of this is new to Americans. America has had minorities become the majority since its foundation. Blacks are treated differently by both sides; smothered by progressives and despised by conservatives. Asians are of a different color, but despite all the racial prejudice against them (past and present), they attempt to integrate. Blacks do not integrate. This is because of intense differential treatment, again, by both sides. If they cannot succeed, then they do not deserve to. We should not prop them up so they can use it as a crutch. We should not suppress them so they can use THAT as a crutch.
Blacks in general need to adapt as well, not just us. The more we adapt to them, the more our culture and our values are dissolved by outsiders. You do not see this in any other culture. The other day in Bellevue I walked down the street and pointed at a car as it passed me by to admire it. The driver just so happened to be black. He pulled over and threatened to shoot me for pointing at his car. This is unacceptable, but this is what differential treatment creates. Racism is created by both parties; those who refuse to integrate and those who refuse to accept integration. Unfortunately for the outsiders, it is their task to integrate despite such obstacles. The more they do not, the more they are different. If I cannot walk down the street in BELLEVUE WASHINGTON without being accosted by an angry black man, the more racism will exist. Both sides do need to soften, but it is the outsider’s responsibility to become an insider, not to leech off the system and assault those whom he imagines as his oppressors. This is not new at all, but blacks want to be special and top dogs. You have to work to become top dog.
