I recognize our nation would not exist without immigrants, however our nation will no longer exist if immigration is not selective or controlled to ensure the economy of our nation can sustain the immigrants until they are established well enough to contribute to our society. If we allow too many to enter our country, we will have riots like France experienced due to lack of employment opportunities. Both sides make valid points, there is no absolute right and wrong- both sides need to negotiate their way to the gray area seperating their black and white worlds. The right to protest and all other rights are exclusively provided for American citizens who adopt speaking English and pledging allegience to the American flag. I believe citizenship is a great privelage that should be granted very selectively in this age of terrorism.America must repeal the law that allows U.S. born babies of illegal immigrants to become instant citizens. The idea that the evil spawn of extreme fundamentalist Islamic terrorists qualify to become president solely because his very pregnant mother was able to illegally sneak into the country undetected before giving birth.I mention this because Mexicans are not the only illegal immigrants among us, just the most vocal.Beyond that, legislation is proposed that includes the family of illegal immigrant children born in the U.S. can become citizens with no more prerequisites or security checks than the newborn child. I believe that we must fast track the naturalization process without sacrificing our nations security and economic sustainability. As I see it, the immigrants should be grateful America does not have the same non-existent immigration and citizenship policies of Japan! I would love to see a policy, like Israel has, that requires learning the language and culture before citizenship is granted. America would save countless billions if media needed to be presented in only one nationally recognized official language. I am mostly a proponent of an official language for safety reasons in the workplace, but national cohesiveness is a great bi-product.

Tofu for once I have to agree with you. Reducing illegal immigration is essential for this country to continue to thrive. Many illegals come here simply to seek a better life, but they are still violating the law by not obeying the immigration laws. Are the immigration laws outdated with quotas that are entirely too low? Yes. Does that validate the wanton disregard for them? No.

There are also the illegals who are coming here for illegal purposes. A large tract of a national park here in Arizona was found to house a well cultivated marijuana field. The state and federal agents who raided and destroyed it also captured three Mexican nationals who were armed with FULLY AUTOMATIC AK-47 assault rifles. What do you think would've happened if some hikers had wandered onto this field (around 20 acres if I remember correctly) by accident? There have been multiple cases of hikers being fired upon by illegals growing marijuana in national parks in California.

The truth is an open border is no border at all. And while the liberals think that everyone simply wants to sit around and sing Kumbaya, reality is that's simply not how the world works. Liberalism like all of the other socialist and communist governmental theories is doomed to failure. Even in our own history, attempts at socialism have failed. Records indicate that originally one of the Massachusetts' colonies divided up land for working but combined the results for communal consumption. This was a miserable failure as the young single men who were most capable of doing more work, were not inclined to do so as they saw little benefit from their labors over those who did far less work. Once the governor realized this fact, he changed the system to allow those who grew the food to keep a larger portion for their own use. After that change, farming in the colony became much more successful. Thusly, the philosophy of "From each according to his abilities and to each according to his needs" was proven to be a fallacy over 200 years before Marx ever put pen to paper to write "The Communist Manifesto"

Communism is a failure. Socialism is proving so successful in France that they only have 3 to 4 times the unemployment of the US and of course about 4 times the taxes. Oh yeah, and the disaffected Muslim youths rioting in the streets. While the Liberals seem to think the US is so horrible, why is it the only country on the planet that millions of people are willing to die trying to get INTO?

At what point does it become the responsibility of the individual to secure their future? We give them money to stay down..ala the democrts...should we now go out and get them jobs? Should we drive them to work everyday to make sure they get to their job? Should we do their job for them to make sure they don't screw up and get fired? Should we do the homework to make sure they test well? Or should we just lower the standards more to give them a false sense of accomplishment?

<em>"Libs should pray to the their god of "life partners"that true lawlessness never comes to the good ole USofA. People might go after the people who are systematically destroying this great nation.”</em>

Please. J.Galt...wacko-fringe conservatives like you are threat to no one but yourselves. Trust me, we in San Francisco <em>who are "destroying this great nation"</em> just aren't interested.

As for praying to any god, I wouldn't bother.

And as for "true lawlessness", I think we're pretty much past all that what with 5 + years of a criminaly insane Bush Administration and Neoconservative war mongering.

And as for you, Toasted Tofu; <em>"As sympathetic as you may be to the plight of foreigners, your first priority needs to be securing the livelyhood of our citizens"</em>...<em>If you truly believe you are a liberal, it must be restricted.</em>.....And if you truly believe <strong>you </strong>are liberal, you would be wise to put the concerns of people before the concerns of profit.(!)

Frisco Lib:<em>"Probably right around the same time that conservative republicans move past THEIR desire for eliminating dissenting opinions and when they get over their worship of the almighty dollar."</em>

Beyond the banter of liberal vs conservative, the issue of illegal immigration (and legal immigration/visa approval in general) is something that effects all 'average' citizens.

Most Americans, and most posters here on this site, are not lifted-up by immigration. Immigration saturates the workforce and dilutes wages. As sympathetic as you may be to the plight of foreigners, your first priority needs to be securing the livelyhood of our citizens.

In a capitalist-based economy, we should expect the barons of industry will attempt to reduce their labor costs... because that means more profits for the company, dividends for the shareholders, and funds to build that summer home in Belize.

Immigration (legal or illegal) benefits corporations and capitalism. If you truly believe you are a liberal, it must be restricted.
