It’s Time To Take The Crutch Away
I watched Ted Kennedy on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. Jon asked him some questions and Teddy said that the vote he was most proud of was his vote against the Iraq War. Fair enough, he is his fathers son. When questioned further, he said we(The US) provided a crutch for the Iraqi people and it is time to take the crutch away and let them stand on their own…Could that same argument be made for our social welfare benefits? We have provided a crutch for these people and have forced them to be dependent on the government..should the crutch not be taken away from them as well?

“Could that same argument be made for our social welfare benefits?”
Not at all.
The crutch Sen. Kennedy was referring to was the presence of the American military. He was nurturing the “bring the troops home” sentiment that’s riding high now.
Removing the crutch of troops in Iraq is totally different from removing the “crutch” of social welfare benefits here in the States.
