There is a very good reason for allowing the EU to take the lead on negotiating with Iran. Last I checked, we don't have an embassy in Iran. In fact the last time we had an Embassy in Iran, militants loyal to Ayatollah Khomeini over ran it and took the staff hostage for over a year. Had they actually been wearing uniforms instead of hiding like the terrorists that they are, it would've been considered an act of war. Seeing as the Khomeini government was complicit in the kidnapping, I don't believe we ever truly established official diplomatic relations with Iran. No established diplomatic relations, no direct negotiations. How are you supposed to have direct negotiations with a country you don't even have diplomatic relations with? The Dems were in power for 8 years, yet they never established or sought to establish a diplomatic mission in Iran. Now that there's a crisis, they're wanting to establish a mission overnight. It simply doesn't work that way.

Why is Iran now so suddenly wanting to negotiate directly with the US? Because they know that as long as they keep smiling and lying (as they have laughed about doing to the Europeans), the Dems will block any attempt to use military assets to solve the problem. Unfortunately, like the Iranian Embassy Hostage crisis, that unwillingness to act decisively could result in Iran becoming nuclearly armed by the time the Dems are willing to act. Honestly, I doubt the Dems would take any military action against Iran until it nukes Israel. Then they will have no choice as a significant number of liberals are Jewish.

As for the insistence that Iran is at least 10 years away from making a nuclear device, I just want to ask one question. If the US could do it in under 5 years without even knowing that it were possible, why would anyone think that the Iranians will take twice that long with all of the technical information that is available and the technical information (inaccurate but readily correctable) provided by the Clinton administration? With the advent of computers it's simply not that difficult for a country with adequate assets (read that as DOLLARS) to obtain the necessary material and expertise to construct an atomic weapon. Will a fission bomb (atomic, Hiroshima and Nagasaki) be as devastating as a fusion (nuclear, but thankfully never used) one? The answer to that would be no. But considering what a 5 kiloton bomb did to Hiroshima, do we really want to chance it? We already have one nuclear armed country with citizens with questionable allegiances (Pakistan), do we really want another one? Or worse one that we KNOW is hostile to the US and its allies in the Middle East? With modern technology, a 5 Kiloton bomb can be made that will fit in a large suit case and fit in the trunk of a car. Can you imagine what would happen if a suicide bomber snuck one into Tel Aviv and detonated it? As a ground burst, the fallout would be ten fold or more that of Hiroshima's air burst. Prevailing winds would carry radiation hundreds of miles inland. Parts of the Med would in all probability become dead zones and with fish migration patterns, fish as far east as Italy and Gibralter could become contaminated and inedible. Food shortages would become rampant in areas that rely on seafood for their primary source of protein. Likewise, the Suez canal could become contaminated with radioactive fallout making it virtually unusable. Is there ANYONE dumb enough to really want to even risk that by not preparing to take military action if necessary?

1-That might be a good explanation if that is what Reid was saying, but he wasn't. We need these nations according to the left, but when it comes to settling an issue such as Iran..they can't be trusted..that is what Reid is saying..

Robert.....absolutely. I mean who the hell do these dems think they are. Oh wait, I know. If they ever get elected again (which is highly unlikely), then they will say this is what they thought and if they don't get elected they will say they never said it. Dems are good at that.

Reid is either a total f'ing idiot, or he is convinced the sheeple are so stupid they can't remember recent history (I guess #2).

Now Reid is critcizing Bush for seeking to work with Fran ce and Germany on the Iran issue, rather than being decisive and acting unilaterally. Huh? Reid and the rest of the Democrites have been howling ever since 2003 about how Bush should not have acted in Iraq without EU ally support!

These Democrites think the sheeple have forgotten even their recent utterings! I guess since they snookered their faithful into forgetting that they said the same things Bush did about WMD and Saddam as a threat, that they could just do it again!

We Conservatives can see this kind of glaring hypocrisy and BS a mile away. Can the true zealot Demosheeple?

:sad:Bush in not the evil guy people say, but what is the point of doing the right thing? when this nation and its people want to be dismantling? "for the ideals of the third world new world order of madness".

bush is doing what he can, and that is sad, the fact is bush can't do anything but what he is told to do, this nation is almost done for and people still don't see the end coming because people only care about the ideals of the self, sad world but you all have it coming and that is sad, and the right and left are one and the same madness of fools who hate the ideals of freedom and duty.

It's not hard to comprehend at all, Mr. Reid.

Simply put, the United States has ZERO credibility in the international arena.

We HAVE to have other people do our work for us, because we have soiled our reputation so badly internationally, no one will believe a word we say.
