If you think Nagin should be criminally prosecuted for Katrina errors, who on the state AND FEDERAL level do you think should be criminally prosecuted as well, for their errors???
Be fair, Mike!

The federal government is not the fucking answer to all problems..when are you going to figure that out?????
if there is a local problem, I want a local solution..the problem is, these urban, minority, one party (dumbocrat) governments are corrupt, incompetent and inept (phiily, DC, Detroit, New Orleans, etc.) they are TICKING FUCKING TIME BOMBS.
New Orleans just happened to blow first.

Nagin ordered an ejaculation, not an evacuation, on the advice of his council Bill Clinton.
Hopefully, today will be the last for ole nigga Nagin.

Just wanted to point out and make a record of it that some 60% of those who voted on this poll were wrong.
May 28, 2006 - 10:49 AM on May 28th, 2006
Well SF that just goes to show that if you can fool enough of the people on election day, even an idiot can get elected. I personally would’ve put money on him being reelected simply because of his race. So many people in this country vote for people without substance, he was a shoo in.
When people actually learn to do a little critical thinking before casting their ballots, this will be a better place to live. Businesses will prosper under less government burdens and everyone will become better off. If the government would get out of the way of the free market, the economy would be doing even better than it already is. If you’ve never managed a business, you simply do not know how punitive government regulation is. Want to remodel a a 50 yr old restroom in your store or restaurant? Better plan on adding an additional 5 ft to the width of EVERY bathroom in the place or you won’t be in compliance with the ADA. BTW if the wall that limits the size of the restroom is a loadbearing wall, you’re going to have to totally reengineer your building if you want to replace those sinks, toilets and wallpaper. If a business doesn’t have a substantial number of handicapped customers, shouldn’t it be the right of the OWNER to decide if he wants to make $250,000+ in renovations to accomodate less than 5% of his customer base? I recently had a business owner tell me how he had to have the restrooms in his tire shop brought up to ADA requirements, despite the fact that he doesn’t have nor could he possibly find someone who could do the job of tire tech while in a wheelchair.

The ADA started out as a nice thought, ended up as a horrendous boondoggle that serves as a vehicle for bloodsucking lawyers and professional victims to extract money.
That’s the problem with these Liberal feel-good programs. They open wide the door to abuse, idiocy, and the sort of problems FAO discusses above.
It also ends up quite often doing just the opposite of its purported intent. Instead of opening up access for disabled people, it just shuts everything down for everyone. Case in point: The City historical museum in San Jose, CA moved some historic homes to the museum, set them up, and restored them. One of them was an 1877 2-story Victorian I had admired for years as a kid. When they moved it out of the way of developers to the museum, I went to go see it. You couldn’t go up to the second floor, it was closed off. When I inquired why, they said it was because there was no way they could make it ADA-accessible without destroying the historical and architectural integrity of the house.
So they just closed it off to everyone! Nobody gets to access it! Wouldn’t it make more sense to just say sorry, we can’t accommodate disabled people here? No, because if they tried that it wouldn’t be long before some professional “victim”, with dirtbag lawyer in tow, would show up to sue.
I say repeal the ADA. If we can’t have a sensible, workable law that doesn’t cause more problems than it solves, then no law at all is better. It is a good thing to want to help disabled people, but when too much Liberalism is added to the formula, it ends up creating a monster.

And just to stay on topic, since Nagin was reelected, I don’t want any more of my tax dollars going to N.O. If they reelect an incompetent, they deserve all that they get.

“Just wanted to point out and make a record of it that some 60% of those who voted on this poll were wrong.
”
Yeah, good point SFL. The voters in N.O. are dumber than the poll responders thought.

“Well SF that just goes to show that if you can fool enough of the people on election day, even an idiot can get elected.”
Gosh, FAO…I’ve learned that lesson TWICE already!

“That’s the problem with these Liberal feel-good programs. They open wide the door to abuse, idiocy, and the sort of problems FAO discusses above.”
Maybe…but try not to forget that they ALSO make life better for tens of thousands, if not millions of American citizens. (!)
I guess some republicans seem to care more about money than they do about helping people in need.
May 28, 2006 - 12:39 PM on May 28th, 2006
SF, prove #18, not with your opinion or anecdotes, but solid facts. The people actually helped, needing help is small. That is the problem with the Federal govt. They know how ot pander to special interest groups, especially those on the left, but not do what they are supposed to do with the money.
Libs like you, SF, just are looking for the socialist utopia, not fairness, nor anything moral as you take from the good to give to the shiftless and lazy, like Jesse Jackson.
May 28, 2006 - 01:01 PM on May 28th, 2006
Are you seriously asking me to prove that the ADA has actually helped disabled people gain access to goods and services?
PCD, do you even know any disabled people? I do, and I know for a fact that they wouldn’t be able to use many of the services you and I take for granted if it wasn’t for the ADA.
jesus christ, I can’t believe some of you people would actually agrue AGAINST laws like ADA!
“Libs like you, SF, just are looking for the socialist utopia, not fairness, nor anything moral as you take from the good to give to the shiftless and lazy, like Jesse Jackson.”
Gee, you’re right PCD. Liberals are such assholes for demanding that handicaped people have access to the same places and services you take for granted.
May 28, 2006 - 06:11 PM on May 28th, 2006
At this point, yes, repeal ADA. Try again with a better bill, one that has limits and common sense built in.
May 28, 2006 - 10:33 PM on May 28th, 2006
Robert, I’m interested in hearing what you mran by “common sense.” Can you elaborate on that a bit more?
May 29, 2006 - 09:22 AM on May 29th, 2006
Alyssa and SF, how can you defend people suing under the ADA for thing like forcing “Gentlemen’s” clubs to make their stages accessable for “handicapped exotic dancers”?
Leave it to SF to go from demanding that he have a say in what his neighbor does with his property, like putting up a fence to keep SF’s voyeuristic eyes at home, to this crap about the ADA.
Next, SF will say the arrest of a TRACTOR for violating endangered species laws is not nuts. It did happen in SoCal, SF.
May 29, 2006 - 09:47 AM on May 29th, 2006
Um, PCD…Where did I “defend people suing under the ADA for thing like forcing “Gentlemen’s”clubs to make their stages accessable for “handicapped exotic dancers?”
Geesh, I just asked for a little clarification because I was tired and not feeling well, and I wanted him to explain more.
Settle down and read the post before you fly off about something that wasn’t even said!
May 29, 2006 - 10:23 AM on May 29th, 2006
Alyssa, take your own advice. Just because the s is missing from things doesn’t mean the meaning isn’t there. It wasn’t a specific comment as to a single actual incident, but a comment portaining to the entirity of yours and SF postings in this thread.
May 29, 2006 - 11:27 AM on May 29th, 2006
PCD, I have no idea what you’re talking about in general, or with a missing “s.” And since I asked Robert to clarify, I’ll wait for him to answer, thanks.
Don’t fly off the handle about something when a) you were not the person I asked, and b) while addressing a question that wasn’t even asked.
May 29, 2006 - 01:07 PM on May 29th, 2006
ALYSSA, I was answering your #24. Now, who is being obtuse and flying off the handle? YOU ARE!
May 29, 2006 - 06:18 PM on May 29th, 2006
PCD, sorry dude, but you’re not making any more sense than the #10 post. I’ll explain again, slower this tiem: I was asking Robert to expand on something in his #21 post, what he would like to see in a “better bill.” Are you still with me? You then asked SF and me how we could defend suing the ADA for handicapped ramps at strip clubs.
Am I the only one that’s confused? I wasn’t asking your opinion on anything, and I wasn’t talking about strip club ramps. And I still don’t know what “missing s” you were talking about.
So…unless my question is addressed to you, back off and stop assuming anything about me. You’re way off base.
May 29, 2006 - 10:33 PM on May 29th, 2006
Alyssa, one thing (and this is just one point) would be to exempt situations such as historical sites like I mentioned in an earlier post. Just because it is too costly or cannot practically be made ADA-compliant is no reason to just close it off to all.
