One of my ROTC classmates put out a survey asking if anyone had any trouble with protestors. My response got a lot of laughs and cheers from the members of the department. I simply wrote that seeing as groups of 15 or less wouldn't say a damn thing to my face and groups of 5 or less wouldn't even say anything to me behind my back. With them being that cowardly, why would I give them any creedence at all? Personally, I think they need a good introduction to the first amendment. While freedom of speech is guaranteed, freedom from responsibility is not. Were these worthless hooligans given a serious lesson in history, they might have a little more respect for the men and women who defend this country. Perhaps they should be given a winter tour of Attu Island in the Aleutions (the only actual North American point of invasion by the Japanese), Tarawa, Bataan, have them climb Mount Suribachi in full combat gear in summer, have them wade ashore in June at Normandy and climb the cliffs that the Rangers scaled. Perhaps, just perhaps, then they might come to appreciate what the men and women of our armed forces have given to insure their freedom.

How ironic. These groups claim to support democracy, yet idolize Communism.

Rocky I would not have had a problem with the UCSC protest had they just protested but allowed the recruiters to be at the fair, which is their constitutional right and a FEDERAL LAW! Instead they use intimidation tactics, knowing damn well the recruiters can't do 1 thing about it! They then cry because info they posted on their website was posted all over the internet! Yikes!

Some points I'd like to make:

1.) If a Democrat were President, would they still be vandalizing ROTC offices?

2.) The military is accused of being sexist and anti-gay. Well, where were the protests against the Yale Taliban?

3.) Peejz is right. If they're so brave, why do they cover their faces? That's what terrorists do!

4.) I have no problem with protests, as long as they're peaceful and respectful.

5.) The coward vandals should have to pay for all damages.

6.) Aren't these the same people who idolize Paul Wellstone?

Why would you wear a mask? If they are so proud of what they were doing, why do they feel the need to cover up?

I find it appalling that one would actually go out and protest any branch of the military, but it is their right. Where I have a major problem with this is when they physically try to stop others from getting info from recruiter. (UCSC) That is where freedom of speech ends.

I agree with Alyssa; those protestors that stayed to help were intelligent. They obviously saw that what they went there for went seriously wrong. A legal protest is one thing, but vandalizing govt property is not so cool and those 3 that were arrested are in a world of hurt! I hope they are fined up the ass and do time for it!

Why should anyone protest the presence of ROTC anyway? What about students that want that available, that exercise their rights to choose ROTC? Should their rights be denied? Should they not have any choice?

The protesters should be arrested and charged with hate crimes.

I live in Minneapolis, so I've heard a lot about this today. I was very happy to see that the protestors were embarrased at the actions of those few. It was great of them to help clean up the mess.
