Palm Beach, FL – April 28, 2006 – In response to media and other inquiries, Roy Black, Rush Limbaugh’s attorney, released the following statement today concerning a settlement agreement with the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office to end the investigation of Mr. Limbaugh:
“I am pleased to announce that the State Attorney’s Office and Mr. Limbaugh have reached an agreement whereby a single count charge of doctor shopping filed today by the State Attorney will be dismissed in 18 months. As a primary condition of the dismissal, Mr. Limbaugh must continue to seek treatment from the doctor he has seen for the past two and one half years. This is the same doctor under whose care Mr. Limbaugh has remained free of his addiction without relapse.
“Mr. Limbaugh and I have maintained from the start that there was no doctor shopping, and we continue to hold this position. Accordingly, we filed today with the Court a plea of ‘Not Guilty’ to the charge filed by the State.
“As part of this agreement, Mr. Limbaugh also has agreed to make a $30,000 payment to the State of Florida to defray the public cost of the investigation. The agreement also provides that he must refrain from violating the law during this 18 months, must pay $30 per month for the cost of “supervision” and comply with other similar provisions of the agreement.
“Mr. Limbaugh had intended to remain in treatment. Thus, we believe the outcome for him personally will be much as if he had fought the charge and won.”
The actions taken today are as follows:
The State Attorney has filed a single charge of doctor shopping with the Court. The charge is being held in abeyance under the terms of an agreement between the State and Mr. Limbaugh.
Mr. Limbaugh has filed a plea of “Not Guilty” with the Court.
The formal agreement between Mr. Limbaugh and the State Attorney will be filed with the Court on Monday. The terms of the agreement are substantively as follows:
Ø Mr. Limbaugh will continue in treatment with the doctor he has seen for the past two and one half years.
Ø After Mr. Limbaugh completes an additional 18 months of treatment, the State Attorney has agreed to drop the charge.
Ø Mr. Limbaugh has agreed to make a $30,000 payment to the State of Florida to defray the public cost of the investigation.

Well, they figured they were going to get him. The anti-Rush crowd thought this was the big one. And just like almost everything else the left has tried, it came up empty. The Big Empty…
Free Rush from the insane government, anyway some government people have Rush on the old hit list like the Mexican government.
by the way i listen to rush 2 or 3 times a week, never heard him say much about how corrupt the drug war is and was but i think he understands now:wink:

Florida is being very generous to Rush, making him pay only $30,000 and some change for being caught as a pill popping drug addict.

An addict is always an addict just like a reformed drinker. They can quit, but it is always in their chemistry.
Florida settled just as much as Rush did. Rush could have sued for quite a bit more (medical files). And I would bet the state is just happy to get this out of the system.
No side really won, it’s just a done deal!
Exactly right, Peejz. Florida settling for $30k was a token; this cost way more than that to investigate and prosecute.
SF, I didn’t call this a “public relations victory”. What I did was to point out that in the end the anti-Limbaugh crowd came up with nada, zip, zilch.

But I can’t help but be amused because the anti-dittoheads thought they were going to crush Rush. They thought they had him, they were going to take down the icon.
I think Robert is right, in that many on the left thought this would destroy Rush, when in reality, he is stronger than ever.
Still not crazy about the way the contents of his medical records were made public by the prosecution while the legitimacy of the seizure was in question.

Rush may not be in the slammer, he even may not have lost listeners, but he lost almost just as bad by being exposed as a hypocrite and a pill popping drug addict (rumor has it he was up to 100 pills a day).
You and 10 million people can listen to him all you want, but every one of them should know deep down inside that Rush is a hypocrite and he deceived his fans for years.

While SF Lib is not a socialist, it seems like you don’t respect the American value of freedom to believe in whatever you want. #9: Once again, you miss the point of what is being discussed here. Regardless of how you personally feel about Limbaugh, the fact is that this settlement with the DA in Florida is a half-assed, face-saving way out for the DA. They came up empty, get it? And his audience frankly doesn’t care what you think. They see this settlement for what it is and they see Limbaugh as having been proven right…again.

I’m just saying that he admitted that he is a drug addict and was keeping it hidden. And I’m just saying that there is a clear record of his opinions on people who are addicted to drugs.
