Mexico Votes To Decriminalize cocaine, heroin, even ecstasy

Both the AP and Reuters are running this story.

From the AP:

The bill now only needs President Vicente Fox’s signature to become law and that does not appear to be an obstacle. His office said that decriminalizing drugs will free up police to focus on major dealers.

“This law gives police and prosecutors better legal tools to combat drug crimes that do so much damage to our youth and children,” said Fox’s spokesman, Ruben Aguilar.

And from Reuters:

People caught with larger quantities of drugs will be treated as narcotics dealers and face increased jail terms under the plan.

We have discussed this many times and I am not for legalizing these drugs. How exactly will this be helpful to the nabbing of the dealers? It won’t. Mexico depends on tourism, oil, illegal alien money sent home, and drugs, for their economy!

In the event that the US did legalize these drugs, you still wouldn’t get rid of the black market trade. All drugs flowing into the US would need to meet FDA standards. Are the drug dealers from around the world going to comply? No. This isn’t like alcohol, in which it is a controlled substance, but the countries we import from and export to are states that do not ban alcohol.

  1. “I am not for legalizing these drugs. How exactly will this be helpful to the nabbing of the dealers? It won’t.”

    I am.

    Small amounts, for personal use.

How will this help get the big guys you ask? Well, for starters, it frees up time and resources to focus on the dealers. Time spent busting the tourist with one joint is wasted when they could be looking for the guy who sold it to him, and the guy above him and so on.

Good for Mexico. I hope the U.S. will catch on soon…

  2. Wow, I am with you, partly, on this one SF Commie. For one, I would like the price of the crap to come down, so that the maggot infested junkies can smoke their brains out,,, quickly. Hell it will happen sooner or later, but with legalization we can get it over with. And the tax dollars can be used to help those who want help with addiction and to fund a counter campaign to NPR and PBS… lol

  3. Just joking about the counter campaign…. I would use the money to fund more and better armament to kill the ememies of the good ole USofA.

  4. I thought you might go a little easier on people with drug addictions, given that some of you are fans of Rush Limbaugh.

  5. I could care less about Rush Limbaugh. I have listened to his show, but I am not rapped up in the guys life. Although I find it amusing that the lib smear campaign went south. He is addicted to pills…. I know several people who are addicted to pills….. Sad, and Illegal to abuse them. By the way, what was o’le Wille Brown addicted to? Crack? I don’t want to sound stupid, but wasn’t he the Mayor of San Francisco?

  6. Who cares if they’re legalizing them in Mexico? They’re exporting more to the US on the backs of the illegal aliens than they’re using in Mexico. Personally, I’d rather see them legalize pot, control it, tax it, and use the proceeds for other things.

We had over 100 lbs of crystal Meth confiscated in only 4 arrests last week and all of the carriers were illegal aliens.

  7. SF- For someone that calls for people to think rationally and use common sense, why would you assume that all of us are fans of Rush?

  8. 1- thanks for restating what the article said. The key word in this is small amounts. The user can buy in small amounts and the dealer can sell in small amounts. The fact is that they aren’t going to go after anyone. The govt receives it’s kickbacks. They didn’t need to change any law in order to direct the cops to focus on the trafficers and not the small amounts.

  9. And as the old 70 antidrag ad went WHY DO YOU THINK THEY CALL IT DOPE?
