Today is the day for the big boycott! Let us know how this is impacting your area! As of 9:45 a.m., the rallies hadn’t started…but let me know what you are seeing and I will post national links.
Consider it a live blogging session!
UPDATES:
From Alyssa in MN
Workers, students join immigrant day boycott
Immigrant students didn’t show up at school, restaurants and factories were closed for lack of workers, but much of life went on normally as the national “Day Without Immigrants” protest was observed across Minnesota.
From Michelle Malkin:
NJ Attorney General Zulima Farber supports Illegal Alien strike day.So does NY Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. Hans at CEI’s Open Market reports:
Yet, amazingly, New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer is threatening New York businesses that require their employees to show up for their scheduled shifts today, arguing that they generally cannot discipline those who boycott their jobs because attending rallies for illegal aliens is “protected” activity under federal labor law.

Civilized maybe, but you make no sense, you keep tying being a respectful citizen and good neighbor up with some wacky notion of religion.
face it, there is nothing you can say that is going to make me believe that sitting, screaming, laughing, talking, throwing garbage on the ground is acceptible behaviour during our country’s national anthem.
Just because you don’t agree with what I am saying doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense. I can disagree with you without resorting to childish name-calling. Maybe you can do the same…:!:
Please stop assuming that anything you say is the finite word on the subject. I’m done talking about this with you, as you have shown you clearly do not listen to different points of view. You can listen without agreeing, you know.
maybe it dosen’t bother you..maybe you never served your country, maybe you don’t appreciate those who have, maybe you think jehovah’s witnesses don’t have to show any kind of decency or appreciation..I don’t know.
Oh believe me, I know my word isn’t the finite word on the subject…
I’ll put my opinion out there and see what people think.
EVERYONE… PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR INPUT ON THE FOLLOWING:
Is sitting, screaming, laughing, talking, throwing garbage on the ground acceptible behaviour during our country’s national anthem?
45–I never said their behavior was acceptable. Please refer to my #15 post, where I said, “I don’t disrespect those people for not standing, but I do disrespect them for talking and screaming.”
And my #20 post where I said, “Obviously those people were not showing respect, and it was in extremely poor taste of them to do so.”
I also never said they don’t have to show respect, I said quite the opposite, in fact:
It’s against their religion to stand, but they also must show respect
HOWEVER, they are supposed to sit quietly and respectfully…
Please pertain to what I’ve said when you’re speculating on the subject, and you won’t say thing that are obviously false about my beliefs.
Putting your opinion out there and seeing what people think is quite different from calling people names when they dare to disagree with you.
Mike, if I remember correctly, your family came from France, right? What year did they come? Were you born here? I’m just curious since you write behaviour, not behavior.
I was born here, my grandparents came from Alsace… I get wacky like that sometimes, since I speak Chinese, French, German and English..I have a lot of weird influences in my speech, writing and behaviour.
Interesting. My ancestors also came from another country, yet both my spoken and written language are consistent. I am also fluent in ASL, but fortunately I do not speak in the syntax of sign language. That would definitely confuse people.
What other influences do you mean?
I just mean that sometimes I do things that are very “american”..sometimes I spell words like colour, and use european slang, I also exhibit a lot of asian and buddhist tendencies, etc… a real hodge podge.
for example.. I eat european style, meaning always holding the knife and fork (whereas most americans cut with the knife, put it down and change the fork to eat)
I also exhibit chinese influence in situations of compliments, etc.. for example.. I play guitar in a band, and if someone approaches me after a gig and says, “Hey man, you were really great, your a good guitar player”
the american response is.. “oh, yeah, thanks man.. ”
they chinese response is.. “no, I messed up this part, I should practice more”
I know it’s usually ritualist and phoney, but it’s also a sign of humility and respect, and there is NOTHING more disgusting than arrogance…and unfortunately all too many Americans are arrogant..and annoying.
40-And I think we have a problem with our American youth and unskilled workers, they aren’t lining up in droves to work the low wage jobs these migrants are doing.
I can’t imagine scores of high-school drop-outs working the fields, can you? SF please stop perpetuating this outright lie. If we were talking about jobs that are stictly in the fields, you may have a leg to stand on, but as it is, the jobs that we are talking about are: lawn services, domestic help, construction, and hotel services. These employers are being enabled by law enforcement to break the law. These were jobs that Americans had prior to illegals taking them. Just look at the Katrina cleanup. The blacks in the NOLA area were making $15.00/Hr + until the illegals arrived and the Americans were let go! So don’t make it sound like they won’t do them, they are being taken from them!
I eat the same way. It takes too much time to switch hands with every bite.
I agree with you that many people don’t show proper respect afforded in certain circumstances. Unfortunately, not all people have the same definition of respect, and that’s where everything falls apart.
When I see someone like those people that were talking, screaming etc, I absolutely think they’re being disrespectful. And although I disagree with them and the way they handled themselves in that situation, it doesn’t make me hate them. They’ll eventually learn, but you know what? They’re not going to become more respectful of other people just because someone hates them for their actions. In my experience, people learn more when taught, not chastised.
Unfortunately, those people won’t learn. They are taught from day one that America is not for them, dosen’t want them, is set up against them, enslaved them, etc.
And the ironic part of that is…the ones who are telling them that are the ones who benefit most from keeping them like that………liberals and black race hustlers.
It cannot be a coincidence that I could literally see hundreds of people near me, and EVERY white, asian, other person was standing in respect, and virtually EVERY black was sitting, screaming, throwing food, etc.
it’s a sad state of affairs.
27- Thanks for the update Zelda!
63. She’s busy with the pipe….
Nothing exciting here in Minneapolis.
Update:
Downtown SF is virtually shut down. There are probably over 100,000 people in the march that I just witnessed.
It just kept going and going and going and going…
I had an excellent high point to view from (on top of the big wheels of a parked city cherry-picker)…the signs, the chants, the white t-shirts, the old people, the young people, the colors…
WOW.
I stood for almost an hour and watched them all walk by…
I’m seriously moved by the amount of people. I’ve been to huge concerts, I’ve been to large war protests, and NOTHING I’ve ever seen comes close….
I took some pics on my camera phone, whats the rule for posting pics here?
so, in other words, the stench of urine in downtown SF should be even more pungent than normally?
61- SF- I sent you an email to the address you registered with. Let me know if you didn’t get it.
My brother works downtown, just a few blocks from where I live. He told me he went to Chipotle for lunch, and they were closed. I’m a very curious person, so I called to see if there would be a recording of any sort explaining why they were closed. Someone answered, and here is our conversation:
Me: I was just calling to see if you were open today.
Chipotle: No, we’re actually closed.
Me: Oh, because of the protests?
C: Yeah, we’re closed because our employees wanted to participate.
Me: OK. I’m just wondering, did you close because they all called in, or did you tell them you would close to support them and give them the day off to participate?
C: We’re supporting our employees decision to participate. We’re getting a lot of phone calls, so check the Strib* tomorrow and there might be a story or something.
Me: OK, thanks.

Alyssa – Awesome. I encourage you to show support to that establishment by dining there in the future.
Maybe even ask to see a manager and tell him/her you support them and what they did. (!)
It helps.
SF Lib has “Si Se Puede – Si Se Puede” running around and around his head…:!:
I have never seen so many people out in the streets.
and thanks for announcing the name of the restaurant so that the rest of us know where to NEVER eat again.
That’s Chipotle folks…do not give those criminal coddling a-holes one thin dime of your money.
Mike, you are in a sour mood today, no?
Mike- if it makes you feel any better, the last time I gave them business was 2 weeks ago in the greater Chicago area. I had to dump my neices mud-butt diaper in their bathroom and disenfect myself!
EEW!
no, not really… just a little irritated…”Looks like someone’s got a case of the mondays”
I feel a little like Peter man.
I’m boycotting the boycotters by going out and buying things and going to work and not going to any rallies.
71- How can anything that beautiful make such an awful stench and mess!
“Looks like someone’s got a case of the mondays”
LOL….
“No. No, man. Sh*t, no, man. I believe you’d get your ass kicked sayin’ something like that, man.”
Good for you Victoria.
Although I gotta admit, all these protesters seem to be doing just fine without any of your help.
65 and 68: I know you won’t like this MIke, but I will still eat there in the future. I don’t think that not having the occasional burrito is going to send any messages. There are also businesses that were forced to closed today, not to support the rallies, but because so many people called in. Chipotle is one of those businesses, as other locations in Minneapolis are open. Does that mean I can’t patronize Chipotle as a whole? I don’t think so.
I say support them, help them make up the lost revenue by going there soon and by telling your friends and family to go there soon, also.
Most of my family consists of liberals. Myself, I lean more to the conservative side, even though I do have some liberal views. Most of my friends are liberals. Given that SF Lib, my friends and family will already be doing that.
Opposite for me. (except the friend thing)
My entire family and my upbringing was conservative, with a little religious fundamentalism spice on top.
I bought it all, hook, line and sinker for years. I still own Rush Limbaugh’s first two books “They way things should be” and “See, I told you so“…
I think having those early experiences and still arguing with my far-right siblings has given me a window into both worlds that few people get to see through.
I actually can see the point of view on the right in most cases. I understand where their feelings come from. Or, at the very least, I try to understand…
“You should send all of the 13 million aliens home, then you take all of the welfare recipients who are taking a free check and make them do those jobs,” said Jack Culberson, a retired Army colonel who attended the Pensacola counter rally. “It’s as simple as that.”
This man, and those who would agree with him just don’t get it.
It would be physically impossible to round up and send home these 13 million people, and besides, why would we want to? Most of the workers have a superior work ethic when compared to some US citizens…
The argument that we should send them home and have the welfare folks do the low paying jobs is insane. It may sound good to some folks who say out loud, but it wouldn’t even get off the ground in real life.
SF Lib, I can’t enlarge pictures two and three. When I try to enlarge those two, it brings up the first picture. Can that be fixed?
Peejz, did you see this #82?
Both of us can only view the first pic, the other ones don’t show up…
“Illegal immigrants made their point Monday: Without them, Americans would pay higher prices and a lot of work wouldn’t get done. As nationwide demonstrations thinned the work force in businesses from meat-packing plants to construction sites to behind the counter at McDonald’s, economists said there can be no dispute within the context of the contentious immigration issue that the group wields significant clout in the U.S. economy.”
“Tyson Foods Inc., the world’s largest meat producer, shut five of nine beef plants and four of six pork plants in anticipation of widespread absences.”
Big flop here. Couldn’t even tell, except that the traffic was light on the roadways. If there is any connection, I wish they’d stay out every day!
But I went out today and bought all I could. All of the tools and supplies I had on my shopping list. I spent almost $12,000 today, plus filled up my gas tank!
But seeing the sea of human debris marching and shutting down other cities, like Chicago, LA, Denver etc. makes me see the need even more to enforce the laws: close the border, ship the illegals home. Now more than ever!
Si Se Puede!!
“I spent almost $12,000 today”
Yeah right.
Please.
Where are you, San Jose?
Looks like they had thousands of protesters.
Doesn’t seem like it was much of a flop.
#88: Now how would you have any way of knowing what I spent today? None, about the same as you know about most of the things you post your opinion on.
Actually, if I tallied it all up, it would be more than 12k. Because I am an entrepreneur, a businessman (that means business owner) and in the scheme of things, $12k is nothing.
I go out and create wealth, contribute to the economy. I don’t expect the Gov’t to tax someone else to provide bennies for me, like the Left does.
If watching the Commie Day Illegal marches on the news hasn’t got you overstimulated, maybe you should look up some old Abu Ghraib naked pyramid photos to look over tonight. You know, the ones that Chapatraitor Ted got wood over…
When did I say I was in San Jose? Another guess of yours gone wrong. You have yet to guess right or be right about anything from what I have seen. Let’s just say I am closer to Sacramento. I won’t say where because I don’t want to deal with Leftist/Communist stalkers.
“…maybe you should look up some old Abu Ghraib naked pyramid photos to look over tonight. You know, the ones that Chapatraitor Ted got wood over:”
See it’s stuff like this that gives you away, Robert. No self-respecting business man or former military officer talks this way unless there was an “accident” in the past, and if there was I aplogize for offending you.
But, come on guy. You don’t need to pretend.
You are SO easy to see through when you post childish invective, FYI.
You are absolutely wrong in every supposition you have made about me. One hundred percent.
Added to your wrongness percentage in the rest of your posts and opinions, I think you’re possibly batting in the high 900s for wrongness.
I can’t recall ever seeing a poster on any bulletin board, website, or blog that has been more consistently wrong.
It’s laughable and pathetic, all at the same time.
Now maybe if you would stop try to guess things about me, and undergo therapy to at least attempt to cure your case of Liberal mental illness, you could turn that record around.
It’s up to you, SFL. To rejoin the family of sane posters, or to remain isolated, laughed at, ridiculed, and repeatedly pummeled to a pulp every time you post some absurd Liberal swiss cheese position that has logic holes you could drive a truck through.
You’ll probably term this childish invective too. Maybe you want to throw in racist, too, since I did not support the Illegal/Commie day of action today? In fact, I went out and countered it, substantially.
“Added to your wrongness percentage in the rest of your posts and opinions, I think you’re possibly batting in the high 900s for wrongness.

You only prove me more right each time, Robert.
You know what I’m talking about.
