Phone Companies Will Not Be Liable

By: Pam On: May/12/06 - 9 Comments

From the title of my post YAWN, I hoped the reader was able to grasp the fact that the USA Today story was not anything new, but at least something for the left to drool over. It was already brought to our attention in December of 2005 by James Risen. One cite is claiming that the telecos will be held liable for millions in fines. That is not true, as there is no violation of the law. But what is a day of news if not for re-hashed material?

I must admit, my favorite reaction came from Jack Cafferty, of CNN, when he said “We better all hope nothing happens to Arlen Specter, the Republican head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, cause he might be all that’s standing between us and a full-blown dictatorship in this country.”

The link you cite does not say there is no violation. In fact, it says that it’s likely there is one or more statutory violations.

This is nothing. Ever heard of Echelon? That was far more intrusive, and it went on during the Klinton Admin. Not a peep from the lefties then.

Well considering the law that made this possible was passed by a Democratic Congress and signed by a Democratic President, why are the DEMS sqawking about it? Some of the people sqawking about it, voted for the legislation to make it happen in the first place 12 years ago. This is also far less intrusive than the Echelon program under Clinton and Echelon was BEFORE 9/11. With the lawsuit filed against Verizon, I seriously feel like going Shakespeare on the Bar Association. In one of his plays, Shakespeare wrote “The first thing we do is kill all the lawyers.”

I do want to lay this program out and see why there is so much opposition to it.

A computer tracks which numbers call which numbers when. Well telephone records of this sort are available for a fee online so obviously they aren’t private. In fact the Supreme Court has ruled that they are third party records and therefore the property of the PHONE companies who may provide them to outside entities as they see fit.

Another computer program monitors international calls from suspect areas of hostile countries to suspected terrorists in this country. The numbers chosen for monitoring are either found on Al Quaeda terrorists overseas or have a particularly high frequency of calls to said suspect areas.

By monitoring international calls, we determine that Terrorist A (let’s call him Abdul) is taking orders to prepare for an attack. Doesn’t it just make sense to want to know that Abdul has been calling Terrorist M (Let’s call him Mahmoud) frequently and therefore they are probably both terrorists who need to be watched and treated accordingly? Of course if you don’t care if Adbul and Mahmoud, et al carry out another terrorist attack, shutting down the program may sound like a great idea.

Jack Cafferty: What an asswipe, and just one more reason why CNN (Criminal News Network, Communist News Network, Clinton News network) is spiraling ever further down the toilet. (”CNN: Most trusted name in news!” Bwaaa ha ha ha ha ha!)

I guess there has to be a successor for pinko propagandist Dan Blather, and perhaps Jacko is jockeying for that spot.

Maybe Jacko is interviewing for Air Jizzeera (Airhead America).
