Some Highlights Of The Senate Amnesty Bill
The Senate approved 62-36, an amnesty deal that must be met with objection from the House!
We need to consult Mexico before building any new fences!
Arlen Specter, according to Congressman John Kyl of Arizona, slipped a provision into the Immigration Bill the Senate passed today requiring the U.S. to consult with Mexico BEFORE building a wall in any area along the border.
The Senate by Cboldt blog reports:
UPDATE @ 17:16 – Senator Specter notes that the managers package is ready for a vote, he says that it (the package) makes making sausage look good. Senator Kyl asks to speak for one minute on the managers amendment. He says it has been in busy negotiations, right up until now. Federal, state and local entities in the US would be required to consult with Mexican government before building a wall. I predict this amendment, S.Amdt.4188, will pass. Off to find the language that Senator Kyl referred to.
UPDATE @ 17:23 – Found it. Senator Dodd talked against a fence on May 18, and his S.Amdt.4089 contains the following language:(b) CONSULTATION REQUIREMENT.–Consultations between United States and Mexican authorities at the federal, state, and local levels concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the United States-Mexico border shall be undertaken prior to commencing any new construction, in order to solicit the views of affected communities, lessen tensions and foster greater understanding and stronger cooperation on this and other important issues of mutual concern.
UPDATE @ 17:40 – Bonus prediction (the managers’ amendment), now four for four. Senator Frist voted against the managers’ amendment, for what it’s worth.
S.Amdt.4188 – Specter: Managers’ amendment, a collection of amendments, including Dodd’s S.Amdt.4089 that requires local, state and federal governments to consult with Mexican counterpart authorities before commencing new construction, was PASSED on a 56 – 41 vote.
Republicans who voted for the Mexican consultation requirement:
Bennett, Bond, Brownback, Chafee, Coleman, Collins, Craig, Graham, Hagel, Lugar, Feingold, Collins, McCain, Specter, Stevens, Warner, Martinez, Murkowski, Snowe and Voinovich
Dems who voted against:
Lincoln
I was listening to a news report thismorning that said that INS must take the word of the illegals if they say they have been here 5 years. There is no paper trail to verifyy it! I guess all 11 million have been here for 5 years!
They only need to report 3 of the past 5 years income . They pick which 3 years. Again, in many cases, no paperwork trail!
What else had you upset?

Seems fairly reasonable to me…
Regarding the fence, why shouldn’t the US consult with the Mexican government about when and where to put one?
Wouldn’t any of you like to have your neighbor consult with you before he puts in a fence on his property that’s right next to yours?
May 26, 2006 - 10:03 AM on May 26th, 2006
I don’t pay my neighbors property taxes. He has the right to put one up!

SF, what the hell is wrong with you?
If I have a dirtbag neighbor who is continually trying to sneak into my home, steal my food, rape my daughter…do I really need HIS permission to erect a fence to keep his ass out?
May 26, 2006 - 11:23 AM on May 26th, 2006
Anyone notice that Feingold was listed as a Republican instead of a Democrat?
Peejz and Mike, why are you so surprised about SF? He is just demonstrating the Liberal need to involve themselves in your business while keeping you out of theirs.

“I don’t pay my neighbors property taxes. He has the right to put one up!”
He has the right, of course, but does it make it right?
No.
Be honest. If you were going to put up a fence on your property, you’d talk it over with your neighbor first, right? Not for their approval so much as their input on the issue.
Simple yes or no answer…

6- He has the right, of course, but does it make it right?
What the hell are you talking about? My neighbors are under no obligation to run their home improvements by me! It is their private property for which they make the payments and pay the taxes on. If they put the fence on my land, we would have a problem!
No I would not talk it over. I don’t need their imput unless I am asking for the name of his contractor…
Good God:roll:

“What the hell are you talking about?”
Good neighborly relations!
Christ, Peejz, it sounds like you might be one of those neighbors; doing as you please with little concern for the feelings of others around you.
What if putting up a fence was a blight on the neighborhood? Or, even at the very least blocked sunlight to a neighbor’s garden?
No matter if it’s on a small neighborhood or some large international scale, I would think that before putting up any fence, it should be discussed by peoples on BOTH sides of the thing.
May 26, 2006 - 06:42 PM on May 26th, 2006
SF what you’re failing to realize that this isn’t about “Good neighborly relations”, it’s about national sovereignty and security. As for good neighborly relations, do you honestly think that a country that allows drug dealers to use their country and military for running illegal drugs into this country a “Good” neighbor? One that prints out pamphlets on how to break our laws and put a drain on our social welfare programs to the point of causing our hospitals to close their emergency rooms? Using our ambulance services as a free means of transport to the hospitals for minor problems with no intent to pay? Maybe you don’t live in a neighborhood that had the local hospital close its ER for months until the feds stepped in to pony up a small percentage of the tab for the unpaid bills. I do. We’ve had situations where there were waits in excess of 10 hours to see a doctor because the ER was filled with ILLEGAL ALIENS. Maybe you would change your mind if someone you loved died or perhaps you lost a limb because you couldn’t get an ambulance or had to travel 20 miles further because the nearest hospital had to close its ER.
Mexico is NOT a good neighbor. With friends like Mexico, why do we need enemies? The last time we had as many criminals invading the US from Mexico, we sent a battalion of soldiers into Mexico after Poncho Villa.
Those senators who signed off on this debacle of an amendment have violated their oath of office. They are not defending the Constitution, they are abrogating national sovereignty to the corrupt government of Mexico.

You are joking, right? I mean, sure, why, Vicente Fox will have to look out his window and will see that fence! It should be a type and style that is mutually agreeable and pleasing, right?
Are you out of you mind?

Arlen Specter is another traitor. EVERY Senator who voted for that bill is a TRAITOR. If EVERY one of them died tomorrow this would be a better nation for it.
May they rot in Hell…

For those who claim that since the illegals will have to pay a fine (with no provision for enforcement that’s not likely to happen) this isn’t amnesty. Seeing as the fine isn’t as large as the social security benefits that they’ll be eligible for under the plan if the law passes as it is currently written it isn’t amnesty, it’s a freaking winning lottery ticket. I want to be able to pay taxes on only as much income as I want to claim for 3 of the last 5 years, pay a minimal fine over the course of the next 8 years and then collect Social Security for income earned by breaking the law. Hell, I’ll go rob an armored car, pay SSN on the millions of dollars that I had stolen, spend the next 25 years living on the government in prison and come out to a HEALTHY Social Security check based on earnings in excess of multiple millions. And of course, I would only be doing it to improve my living conditions so it would be okay to all of the liberals. Maybe I could donate a million to Boys and Girls Clubs of NYC. Heaven knows after ERR America they need it. Then the theft would not only be to improve my living conditions, it would also be (let’s say it all together now) “FOR THE CHILDREN” LOL
