Reid Accepts Gifts
Call me crazy, but I was under the impression that gaming was the number one source of revenue for Nevada. Hence my surprise by this statement: “Anyone from Nevada would say I’m glad he is there taking care of the state’s number one businesses,”. It appears that Harry Reid has accepted tickets to boxing matches at the time there was legislation on the floor.
Senate Democratic Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) accepted free ringside tickets from the Nevada Athletic Commission to three professional boxing matches while that state agency was trying to influence him on federal regulation of boxing.
Reid took the free seats for Las Vegas fights between 2003 and 2005 as he was pressing legislation to increase government oversight of the sport, including the creation of a federal boxing commission that Nevada’s agency feared might usurp its authority.
Senate ethics rules generally allow lawmakers to accept gifts from federal, state or local governments, but specifically warn against taking such gifts — particularly on multiple occasions — when they might be connected to efforts to influence official actions.
Two senators who joined Reid for fights with the complimentary tickets took markedly differently steps.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) insisted on paying $1,400 for the tickets he shared with Reid for a 2004 championship fight. Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) accepted free tickets to another fight with Reid but already had recused himself from Reid’s federal boxing legislation because his father was an executive for a Las Vegas hotel that hosts fights.
In an interview Thursday in his Capitol office, Reid defended his decisions to accept the tickets and to take several actions benefiting former lobbyist Jack Abramoff’s clients and partners as they donated to him.
“I’m not Goodie Two Shoes. I just feel these events are nothing I did wrong,” Reid said.
Of course you didn’t senator!

Another lying, two-faced hypocrite from the party that has been pointing fingers at the Republicans. The Democrite “Culture of Corruption” is every bit as wide and deep as anything the Republicans have. The main difference is that the Democrites also have a layer of arch-hypocrisy, and a layer of treason.

Reid’s position on the gaming issue was opposite what the industry lobbied for. He did not accept tickets for favorable votes or influence. Also, the Senate rules speciifically allow gifts from a member’s home state. Therein lie the differences with what Reid and Duke Cunningham, et al, did. Spin it all you want; truth shall prevail (a concept foreign to may of you on this board).

Paul, it is the appearance of impropriety that he carries with him. It doesn’t help that he is knee deep in the Abramoff scandal…and what was that about the culture of corruption?

The question is, Senator Reid, will you be resiging? Should Nancy Pelosi resign? Should Howard Dean resign?
If Reid had an R next to his name, that is what the MSM would be hollering.

Harry Reid on the Ropes? He accepted gifts from boxing promoters
The culture of corruption takes another blow, and once again it is a Democrat, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid. He of course denies all wrong doing, but the timing here was no better or worse then most of the other recent ethics scandals…

Reid getting boxing tickets is nothing. Look up the amount of business he’s swong to his sons’ and son in law’s lobby firms to really get an idea of what a corrupt hypocrite he is. The source to look at is that liberal bastion of truth, the LA Times. They had a VERY informative story about his dealings with the lobbying firms employing his kids for mid six figure salaries.
